    Report on-board Supanova II

A while since the last report I know!

The olympic sailing events have now finished in Weymouth, they were a great success! This week has seen the first couple of trips back angling that I have been absolutely buzzing about! FIshing seemed to start where it left off. Fantastic Plaice fishing and Turbot and Brill on the banks.

A session at anchor produced some nice Bream along with Undulates and Tope for those that had a crack with the bigger baits.

Settled weather from the weekend onwards should see us get out on a good run! Watch this space.

Once again thanks to all who continue to keep coming down to Weymouth and offer the Weymouth charter fleet so much support.

Pictured is Glenn Knight with the best plaice of the week at a cracking 6lb 3oz!

  • 07/2012 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Jul 2012 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

The last couple of weeks in July saw mixed fortunes aboard My Way, mainly due to inconsistent weather conditions hindering all our best laid plans. Regardless we managed to sail most days, and with adjustments to our plans had a good day afloat catching a variety of species.

The inshore fishing on the medium to large tides can be fantastic when we concentrate on the great array of species that can be caught in and around the Holyhead Bay area. We’ve already struck a couple firsts for My Way this year with a streaked gurnard and also an angler fish, both extremely rare sights in our waters, sometimes you just never know what’s going to surface.

All 4 gurnards generally associated with the UK. Reds gurnards, the most common, followed by greys and tubs can all be caught during a species hunt, with the tubs growing in regularity and size the last couple years.
I mentioned in my previous report the number of rays being caught and this has continued with the spotted rays proving the most abundant once more and ticking a species off a capture list for many anglers.
Reliable double figure action inshore is normally in the form of bull huss, with average sizes from many marks from Holyhead in the 10 to 12lb area. That said, you can also find a similar amount of marks that regularly give us double and triple shots of very small huss, ones as small as 8oz, pulled from the sea sucking on a big lump of mackerel flapper!

The rays, smoothies and tope all having the potential to gate rash the double figure bull huss party.
We've been having a bit of fun lately using the 'Pen Fishing Rod', this rod is the actual size of a slightly oversized pen with a small multiplier reel to match. You are able to load the reel with around 60foot of braid and can have some awesome fun when drifting over shallow rocky areas for the hard fighting wrasse of pollack.
A good General Days fishing is seeing regular returns of over 15species for the boat, with many anglers catching over 10 species each.Additional sport inshore has come from smoothhounds in the 5 to 9lb bracket, small male fish still feeding hard in a variety of marks they are falling to mainly squid or crab bait.

Late July and we were joined by Dave Parker and colleagues from Derbyshire, the plan was for some mixed fishing inshore on one day and then offshore for a few fillets of cod and pollack for the table and then at anchor for sport with small sharks.

The wreck we choose was not too far to travel and lies due west of North Stack, within the shipping channel which was interesting as the ships made their approach to the port of Liverpool. These ships pick up the estuary pilots off the north Anglesey coast. The fishing was consistent over the wreck, nothing too big, the best pollack went 6lb, but with a fair number along with similar sized codling and a few coalies a good couple hours fishing was had.
At anchor the sport was slower than expected, however we caught a fair number of huss and also managed a couple of spurdog firsts from Andrew and Dave.

    Report on-board PLAN B

strong Easterly winds put the damper on things a bit this weekend, but we stuck it out and were rewarded with bass / hounds and a nice unexpected tope ! all on crab.
A nice double figure hound on Sunday was the best fish of the weekend. The sun shone and everyone went home with a red face and at least 5 hounds each so not so bad in the end..

  • 10/08/2012 Fishing Report by Eric Robinson on Supreme (Rhyl, Denbighshire)

10 Aug 2012 by Eric Robinson

    Report on-board Supreme

I was lucky enough to have been there when the unprovoked Blenny attack took place!!
We couldn’t have wished for a better day on board Supreme last Friday. There was hardly any breeze, bright sunshine and plenty of fish. As well as the infamous Blenny Lucky Alan caught a Turbot which we were all glad to see safely returned. The scorer for this match was kept really busy as the catches and species came thick and fast. The Bull Huss and Gurnard just kept on coming as the species count mounted. The availability of plenty of Mackerel was just as well as bait would have been the only limiting factor to the number of fish caught. Steve moved us on twice when things slowed down – and each time found us the fish. Although a competition, everyone on board took full advantage of the conditions to have a thoroughly great time. Thanks to Steve for a brilliant day and the usual creature comforts of tea and snacks. Really looking forward to the week after next to meeting up with him and the usual suspects again.

    Report on-board Discovery

12,08,12 CJS TRIP, We tried to blow this trip of the night before due to a bad weather forecast but some had already travelled up the night before, so after some discusions we agreed to take the trip and stay inshore , so we left the marina with a group of lads that had been on the town all night and came straight to the boat 5 slept all day and the other lads slept for a while on and off in the 23 mph wind we did manage to catch some smooth hounds, mackeral, dabs, etc. With the Lads that stayed awake on and off, at one stage i managed to wind all of the lads rods in and leave them in without any one noticing The moral of the story is dont drink to much before a trip and dont stay up late or you will waste your day plenty of pics to follow.

  • 10/08/2012 Fishing Report by Trevor Ling on High Flyer 2 (Great Yarmouth, Norfolk)

10 Aug 2012 by Trevor Ling

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Had a day out wreck fishing on High Flyer. We knew it was going to be hard work as this year has not been very good for wrecking. First time on this boat with Jon Old the skipper who I must say realy looks after you and tries his hardest to find you some fish. He made tea and coffee all day bacon rolls for lunch with chocolate bars coming out in the afternoon. All I can say now is a nice boat with a very good skipper and I would recommend him very highly.
