    Report on-board Galloper

It looks as though the weather will improve for sunny Essex over the next few days. Fishing has been great of late with the spring run of rays well under way. There have been some big females showing regularly as well as plenty of scrappy males to keep us busy. Chris Bull has caught the biggest so far this season at over 16lbs. The dogfish and whiting have been in biblical proportions with some unseasonably large whiting mixed in. there have been several around 40cm long and the biggest at 43cm (17inches) long. As If large whiting aren’t exciting enough on their own we have still been seeing the odd baby codling too.
Prior to this cold snap things were warming up nicely so we were catching increasing numbers of smooth-hounds and bass on our trips. Worm certainly seemed to help attract the bass and there have been some decent fish coming out already so hopefully this bodes well for the coming weeks and months. Barry Wood had the largest of several bass the other day with a fish of 4.12lbs that made his day.
Over the coming weeks I expect to see plenty of rays on our general trips. Hopefully the short blip in the weather wont affect the Bass and hounds too much. We will see plenty more mixed in on our general trips until all of a sudden they will be here in force marking the start of our summer fishing.
If you fancy getting out aboard the Galloper then please keep your eyes open for spaces that come up. I have a few individual spaces as well as availability for full boat bookings (mainly mid-week) as well as the occasional evening.

  • 03/04/2022 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

3 Apr 2022 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

Well that wasn’t too bad a weekend......

Saturday saw a 50/50 split between experience and new anglers. Sea Urchin regulars, Gary and Andy Townend joined some friends of mine who had booked on to try uptiding. Gary and Andy got stuck straight into the Codling and one of them was usually playing a fish during the Ebb tide! Once they’d caught enough, they went onto catch and release!

Dan and Martin took a while to get to grips with things, but still managed to get a few Codling, Doggies and Pouting throughout the day. It was a good example of you’ve got to fish well to catch. Andy and Gary made it look like easy fishing.

Today saw another group of inexperienced Uptiders’ onboard, but they were all keen to learn. After a busy first hour, getting everyone fishing properly, the fish started to come aboard regularly. It was nearly all Codling, apart from Remigijus Zokas who found a lovely brace of Pollock as well.

The boys were on my hire tackle and used the #standard Unwashed Squid and Black Lug hookbaits. Biggest fish of the day fell to William Louch, with a nice 5lb Codling. Everyone caught a fair few and the weather got progressively better as the day went on.

All in all, an enjoyable day out in good company. Thanks everyone.

  • 03/2022 Fishing Report by Paul Timoney on Seadog charters (Oban, Argyll & Bute)

    Report on-board Seadog charters

Good to see some nice weather and as usual the fish are flying in! Settled conditions always make for better days at anchor in the sound ☀️☀️
So far this season on the limited days we’ve been out we have boated 4 fish over the magical 200lb, one of which coming in at 216lb! Exactly the same as our old boat (Seadog 1) boat record, but we will definitely take that! And well done to Sean taking that fish as his first ever skate, top effort . There has also been lots of other large skate putting the boys thru there paces ☺️

We would like to announce that this year we will be taking a couple of 2 day trips in summer across to NI in search of porbeagle and thresher so look out for dates. There will also be a chance to come aboard for a 2 day wreck trip, again we will have some dates for this soon too.

Here is our current availability for the next couple of months, mainly targeting larger skate, as always good quality tackle and bait is provided on all our trips.

  • 29/03/2022 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

29 Mar 2022 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

An unexpected trip out for us yesterday as we didn’t have a booking until Chris Beddard from Stockport rang me the evening before to see if we would take them which of course we obliged.
Because they were only a group of 3 we were obviously limited to where we could get to so we chose the inshore anchor fishing to which the lads were very pleased.
A young “potter” mate of mine had told me about the Codling they had been getting in the pots over the last couple of days so we headed to that area.
The lads were straight in to fish from the off until slack water where it went quiet, like it usually does.
We decided to stick with it where we were until the flood came through and on the first push of tide the rods were tapping again.
Chris, Phil and Bernie gathered around 25 fish between them with best falling to Bernie, a lovely Codling of 6lb 3oz.
The lads thoroughly enjoyed the day with us and will be back next month hopefully for some more action.
    Cheers
    Rich

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

As the spring season starts we have had some fantastic weather, the fishing is improving with some nice catches of plaice are being landed and it will not be long before we start catching the very fiesty Black Sea Bream which size for size put up a great fight on the right gear, I am running plenty of midweek individual trips again this season so if you fancy a relaxed day fishing from Poole give me a call.

    Report on-board Ocean Runner

With the weather starting to improve the inshore Plaice fishing has got off to a awesome start with a great stamp of fish in quality condition. Yesterday saw us offshore anchoring with some decent sized congers and our first Tope of the year which is a good sign our summer species are just about to start and in the coming weeks hopefully we see the first of the Bream arrive on the inshore reefs.
