What a cracking day out we had today.

I’ve been gagging to get a couple of days fishing in for myself; having not fished since last November. With just Tony and Arkadiusz on board, we had plenty of space. The inshore grounds have done a better stamp of Codling for us since Christmas, so we headed out uptiding in yet another stunning sunrise.
First stop in 20m of water on the Ebb tide saw a bite every drop and we started to pick away nicely. Quite a few of the fish were on the smaller side, but it was nice to get consistent action. Squid and Black Lug cocktails were doing the business as usual. As we lost the tide the action slowed a little, so we chose to have a move, to wait for the flood tide to get away. Interestingly, we picked off a fair few fish through slack water today, and once the Flood Tide got away, things really kicked off.
We were getting bites within a couple of minutes of dropping down and catching well. Then it happened….. Arkadiusz looked like he was stuck on the bottom, then we saw a couple of heavy “nods”. The fish used the tide to its advantage and made it hard work to gain any line, but after a great scrap, we slipped the net under a lovely clean 17lb 8oz Cod.
Arkadiusz travelled from Birmingham and was on his first ever boat trip, had never done uptiding before, and by his own admission was a complete novice. However; he took on board all the advice the Tony and I gave him and had a pretty special fish first go. How’s Yer’ Luck!!
A thoroughly enjoyable day with great weather, great fish and great company. Looking forward to my next day off!!UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Had a run out yesterday with a team from Hertfordshire who were in Whitby for a couple of days.

The lads preferred the Uptiding option we offer.
The day started slowly on the ebb tide with only 6 or so fish boated. A move on slack water to a little hot spot of mine to start the flood tide and the lads started picking Codling from the off.
20 or so fish came over the rails in the first couple ours of the flood with lots of chuck backs too until we were hounded by 3 sea dogs (seals!)
One last move away from the seals proved fruitless with only a couple of “mop” Codling landed.
A great day all in all though with excellent banter a bit of good sport at times.
Cheers lads and hope to see you all again this year.
Les Wake picture with his best of the day at 4lb 6oz.
Room left for a few this coming weekend if you fancy a trip.
Cheers
Rich

Today, we spent the day fishing inside at anchor. A full boat booking for a group of friends from the North West with very different fishing experiences. From experienced; to having never fished before.

I really enjoy getting people fishing effectively and we spent the first hour or so getting everyone familiar with wrapping Squid and Black Lugworm on pennel rigs. It was a slow start, with only a few reasonable sized Codling coming up. The Ebb Tide was just finishing and it took until the Flood Tide got away before things picked up nicely.
We’ve quite often found that we get a few quick bites and then things quieten off. Today was no different, until mid afternoon, when we found a pocket of fish. A fair few fish came up in quick succession, with the biggest being a lovely 11lb Codling.
The fish fell for a Squid and Black Lug Cocktail and was a new PB. A brilliant result and reward for persevering with bait traces, when others had started switching around.
Another great day out with some great people. Thanks boys.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
It’s not just about the fishing……good company always makes for a great day at sea. We had a brilliant bunch of lads on board today, who (like Wednesday’s anglers) were also keen to have a look on a few wrecks.
View Boats Page
Using the Ebb tide we headed North again and had a stop at a wreck 12 miles out. The first couple of drifts yielded nothing, as the tide ran in towards slack water. However, once it slackened off, the Ling decided to poke their heads out. The lads on the back of the boat took a fish apiece. Ian Kellock taking the biggest of the trio at 8lb.
Once things quietened down we decided to move on. The next wreck produced a good few Codling up to 5lb , which mainly fell to Hokkai’s baited with squid, but the action slowed up after half a dozen drifts.
Back on the move again, we visited a further three wrecks for very little return. Unfortunately we found another wreck that had been adorned with either a fishing net or string of pots, as everyone lost multiple sets of fishing tackle, in places where we usually don’t.
It definitely wasn’t the greatest day in terms of fish numbers, but the ones we caught were a decent size. The lads on board made it a really enjoyable day, and when the wind dropped away, it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon. Thanks boys.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

We finally managed to get a day back out at sea today, after what feels like an eternity stuck back on land.
View Boats Page
The general consensus among the anglers was to run out and fish a few wrecks, so we used the last of the Ebb tide and headed North. We arrived just about on slack water and first drift saw 3 Codlings come up, which all fell to baited Hokkai’s.
The fishing wasn’t exactly prolific, but as the Flood tide got away we had bites and a fish (or sometimes two) almost every drift.
We had a bit of a species hunt, landing Cod, Ling, Pollock, Haddock, Coalie’s Whiting and Pouting. Small bits of Squid on Orange Hokkai’s was definitely the way to go today. They didn’t seem interested in big baits, Shads or Jelly’s.
Everyone stuck at it, and with a good bit of banter, the time flew by. We didn’t land anything massive, with the biggest fish going just a shade over 5lb, but a very enjoyable day out was had nonetheless. Thanks to everyone for coming along. See you again soon.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl
