Report on-board Atlantic Blue
With a one day break in the wind, we would manage to get out for a bit of fishing. The problem today would prove to be the rain as it rained all day and really dampened the spirits.
View Boats Page
Nonetheless, it would be a day filled with banter meeting a bunch of lads who haven't fished on the boat for a couple of years for the first time but who would prove to be a great bunch of lads. Fishing the local marks for rays, congers, huss and other species was the plan and one which went as well as could be hoped. The fishing wouldn't prove to be tearing, but it would be steady and the guy who wanted some dogfish to take home would be happy with 5 nice ones to take away!
Despite the weather, we would manage some congers, huss, dogfish and a small, but welcome, Blonde Ray of around 8lb. Chatting in the pub afterwards, the lads all stated that they had enjoyed their day and that they are usually luckier with the weather so are keen to book up some trips for next year including, hopefully, a trip down to fish around Lundy.
Thanks lads for a great day despite the weather and I look forward to seeing you all again soon! -

Report on-board Atlantic Blue
Monday 24th September 2018 saw us heading out to try some marks further down channel than we had ventured before. We started off anchored up on a mark in between three of the other boats out of Minehead that day catching dogfish. With mostly fish baits and a few cocktail baits on board, we managed a couple of small Bull Huss in amongst the dogfish. As we lost the tide in close, we headed for the Ivy Stone for more Bull Huss and Dogfish. Having been pestered by small bites on larger baits, Roy Sparks switched to a flapper rig with smaller hooks and managed to land a 3-Bearded Rockling of 2lb 10oz for a new boat record, well done, Roy!

As we lost the tide there, I decided to head for a mark that the late Arthur Talbot showed me a few years ago and from where we have had some big fish including Tope, Congers, Smoothound and Bull Huss. We got there right at the end of the ebb tide and we swinging around from the off. As the tide held us more or less straight, we started catching fish. We had a few small congers and dogfish before Pete Austin's rod would bend into something a bit better that he and I both hoped would be a Bull Huss. When the fish hit the surface, it wasn't just a Bull Huss, it was a big Bull Huss that tipped the scales, witnessed by another angler, at 16lb 4oz and would set a new boat record. What was even better for me was that my best mate had finally, after 33 years of trying, beaten his personal best Bull Huss and set himself a difficult, but not impossible, target to beat.
A short while later, Roy Sparks would be in the action again, this time with a dogfish. As I can hear the sighs of disappointment, I would like to point out that this fish of 2lb 6oz sets a new boat record that took us to 3 new boat records for the day!
We headed back up channel to try for some rays before heading for home but, alas, the rays would prove elusive and all we would manage would be a few more baby tope, dogfish, huss and congers. As I headed the boat for the harbour, we were all satisfied that it had been a brilliant day and that they all wanted to come again soon and try to beat some more personal bests and boat records.
Pete remarked to me as we rounded the end of the harbour that he has done 4 trips with me this year and has landed specimen fish on every one. He's had 3 Small-Eyed Rays over 12lbs, a Bull Huss of 16lb 4oz and Smoothounds to around 14-15lb (all of which were returned to fight another day!). Proof that you can't keep a good angler down and that I can, on my days, find the fish! -

Well by now most of you will have seen this months Sea Angler Magazine.
If you haven’t then I suggest you go out and buy it, there is an eight page feature on an exploratory trip we did to target Six Gill Sharks and Blue Skate in UK waters.
Lots of people have been asking me how did we find out where to go, well without giving too much away I have a friend who is a commercial fisherman.
He fishes with gill nets well off shore and showed me photos of Porbeagle Sharks and Blue Skate that had been caught in his nets accidentally.
By the time he got his nets onboard the Porbeagles where being eaten by much bigger Sharks!!
When he showed me the photos I said I am going to this place ASAP, this is my type of fishing!!
I called Phil Riley to tell him the dates he had booked in a months time for Wrecking where perfect to have ago for Six Gill Sharks.
At first he was like are you sure they are there, so I send him the photos of the Porbeagle Sharks been eaten in the nets.
He said let’s do it 100%, i then got in touch with Dave Lewis, I told him what our plan was and he said get me on that boat.
As they say the rest well that’s history!!
6 Six Gill Sharks to 512lb (smashed the British record) and 2 Blue Skate to 35lb (no British record exists) a long with lots of other stuff.
I have been told by lots of people that the 512lb Six Gill Shark, is the biggest Shark caught in UK waters that has been boated, measured and returned.
It’s safe to say this is why I called this mark the UK Jurassic Park.
The amazing thing about fishing this area is the potential, you literally do not know what you are going to catch next.
Every time one of us was reeling a fish in weather it was a small fish or big fish all of us we looking over the side of the boat.
It’s got the potential to produce 1000lb+ Sharks, along with Albacore Tuna and maybe one day a Bill fish.
All we need to do is spend more time fishing Jurassic Park and we are the only charter boat in the UK who knows where it is.
So as we speak Size Matters is being coded to do 48 hour charters.
Part of the coding requirement is you need sleeping accommodation for all persons onboard.
This limits us to 4 anglers and 2 Crew for the 48 hour charters.
The cost is £3200 for the whole boat or £800 per person for individuals.
We already have four 48 hour trips booked in for 2019 and three for 2020.
If this type of charter is up your street then contact me, there are only a few limited days in 2020 when we can do these trips.
Thanks
Kevin Mckie

Report on-board Silver Halo
August was amazing with mostly loads of bass being caught. First timers have been catching some great fish up to 8lb 7oz.
View Boats Page
I ran 2 shark trips with a total of 10 blues being caught.
I've had the first three weeks of September off and out of the water....so now I'm on a mission to continue with the great catches.
There are loads of bass on the inshore marks and the Porgies are also heading closer in.
Pollack should be arriving in numbers along with the swarms of spratts....there is loads of life out there with dolphins, porpoise and tuna being spotted.
Please get in touch for that booking.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Silver Halo
