    WRECK TRIP
My latest Wrecking trip saw the morning session produce only a few Pollack after trying several wrecks how ever in the afternoon it all bucked up with a change of tide and on one particular wreck a good catch of Pollack and some Bass was put together producing some smiles on the anglers faces.White lures seemed to be the best colour on the day. Pictured is Ian Nash with his 5Ib Bass.
My next Wreck trips with places available are on November 3rd, 11th, these will be my last wreck trips of 2018, I will start wreck trips again in January 2019.

  • 01/10/2018 Fishing Report by Jon Whitton on Alexia (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

1 Oct 2018 by Jon Whitton

    Report on-board Alexia

We're a couple of weeks into the uptiding season for winter cod. The fishing has got of to a slow start with only small numbers of codlings coming up in the first week. This last week has seen the uptiding improve slightly with catch numbers increasing. The weather this time of year is a key factor for us getting out and has already seen us loose most of September the worst I can remember for several years which was surprising as it's usually a good month for fishing. We will continue to fish the winter season and get out as much as we can and hopefully bring you a good catch report. Tight lines for now !!

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

To say the weather here at Whitby has been anything but crap for the last 6 weeks would be a lie! Never known anything like it to be honest.
The September comp was a complete washout with just 4 days taken at sea and 12 days cancelled !!

On the days we managed, we did see some decent fish boated on the Shy-Torque III. Mark Konarski boated the heaviest cod in the comp at a shade under 14 lbs and Alan Sutcliffe landed the 3rd overall heaviest fish in the comp, a ling of 14 lb 2 oz. Well done to those two with their fish. Thank you to all those who were booked with us and just so sorry we couldn't get you to sea for a crack at the prize money. Better weather next year hopefully!

Next years (2019) competition dates are now ready and are below :-
    Spring :- April 13th - 28th inc.
    Summer :- June 22nd - July 14th inc.
    Late Summer :- Sept 7th - 22nd inc.

The boat will be, as always, working through the winter months. Just a week or so out of the water for maintenance.
Take a look at the availability calendar on the websites.

  • 10/2018 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Oct 2018 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

[This report was written when Size Matters was operating from Plymouth]

It’s been good to get back to work after a few weeks off welcoming the new arrival of my daughter and future skipper of Size Matters ha ha.

On one of the days we had ago for Porbeagles and Threshers again, it didn’t quite go to plan.

After a few hours fishing we got one hell of a run on the heavy tackle, after an hour of the fish hugging the sea bed it swam straight up towards the boat.

It was a job to keep up with the fish then the line went all slack we thought we had lost it, then all of a sudden the line went tight and it was just a very heavy weight and no movement.

I knew from experience the fish was tail wrapped so we put the drag up to get the fish to the surface, then from under the boat I could see it wasn’t a shark but a big Blue Fin Tuna tail wrapped.

As we got it to the surface I could see the only option was to boat it to cut the wire trace off its tail and remove the hook.

As soon as we got it on the boat we put the deck wash in its mouth to keep it alive, we then removed the hook and cut the wire trace from its tail.

The Tuna was on the deck for no more than a few minutes, we then took a quick measurement and photo then slipped it back, it gave one kick of its tail and was away.

An amazing fish it taped out at 366lb, we never did get any sharks that day but the lads went home with a day to remember.

Straight after we caught the Tuna I called the MMO office in Plymouth to report the capture and our reason for boating the tuna.

If you are lucky enough to catch a Tuna when shark fishing please realise it ASAP at the side of the boat!!

We have also been catching lots of Atlantic Bonito Tuna only the size of mackerel but great to see new species arriving in our waters.

The Bass fishing has been steady with most fish 3lb to 6lb along with plenty of Pollack to 5lb.

Off shore wrecks have been ok with Ling to 34lb, Pollack to 10lb and the odd Coalfish to 4lb.

The Conger fishing has been ok with Eels to 58lb and I also witnessed a bass caught on a Conger bait using a 300lb hook length, no need for fluorocarbon when bass fishing ha ha.

The weather has stopped play for the next few days, if you would like to join us next year then here is a list of the last available dates remaining.

    Available dates for Plymouth 2019.

Thursday 18th Wrecking £80 pp 1 place available.

    Report on-board Snapper

October has been a great month so far with plenty of variety, as you can see from our latest catches we’ve had two new boat records the first being a scad on a recent visit from the England fishing team for their annual squad weekend caught while fishing for bream of just under 2lb for Colin Searls and the second being a porbeagle shark of 160lb and we are only in our second week of the month. We have the wibac competition to look forward to along with the arrival of the squid. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call the diary is also open for next year to book early.
