Fishing Report by Nick Halstead
on Queensferry (Scarborough, North Yorkshire)

Report on-board Queensferry
Monday 11th June. A scheduled 7 hour trip turned into 8.5 hours thanks to Neil keeping us catching some lovely cod.
View Boats Page
Fished the southern land rock in almost perfect conditions with very light winds and a smallish tide. The catch consisted of almost all cod in the 3 to 7lb range and in excess of 70 keepers to the boat with no end of smaller fish returned.
The fish came to both bait and lures, fresh worms and mussel took a lot of fish but the stand out bait was undoubtedly a large squid bait which although didn't take the numbers of fish as the worms it certainly produced the bigger stamp.
Best lures were a sandeel type of shad with all colours seemingly effective.
All in all a fantastic enjoyable day with plenty of top quality fillets for the freezer. -

Report on-board Silver Halo
Several of my Lyme Bay wrecks have been producing plenty of good sport. The last couple of weeks we have run several lure / wrecking trips with catches of approx 20 pollack between 4 anglers each time. Lots of pollack between 6 and 8lb and the biggest at 13.8lb, we've also had several bigger fish lost close to the wrecks!
View Boats Page
Cod were showing well a few weeks ago but have become a bit harder to find last couple of weeks, biggest going 7lb plus we had a couple of small Ling to 11lb.
Mackerel are now showing up in greater numbers.
Water temps are now good and we've loads of bait fish around :)

Weymouth Angling Breaks - *** NOW TAKING BOOKINGS FOR 2018 and 2019 *** Don't Miss Out
A few days away fishing out of Weymouth along with the social side is a nice trip to do.The variety of fishing and the amount of different species caught at Weymouth is probably second to none. There are plenty of places to stay which are angler friendly and some excellent places to wine and dine around the harbour and in Weymouth Town centre.
If you want to try a Weymouth Angling Break then contact me, I cater for whole boat charters and individuals.
Planning your trip well in advance is essential you need to arrange your boat booking and your accommodation as early as possible to avoid disappointment, some of my regular groups plan their trips at least 12 months in advance, this allows them to discuss with me the best tides for the type of fishing they are targeting. -

Frustrating day afloat today, started on hounds with a dozen landed, far from the numbers enjoyed recently.
Drifting we managed a mixture of wrasse and pollack, with the odd coalie and codling.
The Deeps disappointed, with dogfish all our reward for some great effort.
I blame killer whales! Lol
Still, some nice fish landed and a few laughs along our way, a few photos below

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
A few good days, a few not so good days on the boat this last week.
View Boats Page
The weather has been the main problem here on the East coast and has taken the edge off what was extremely good fishing a week ago. I would say the last few trips we have averaged around 30 to 40 cod per trip, which is a drop on the catch rate a week ago.
A Northerly swell has also hindered us a bit too, colouring the water up a bit on the more inshore marks. It will clear again soon though hopefully.
The summer comp starts here at Whitby on Sat 23rd June.
We only have 2 days left now with any room.
They are :-
Thursday 12th. Room for 2. Individuals very welcome.
Sunday 15th. Room for 2. Individuals very welcome.

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
Fishing has been excellent with so many fish coming onboard it is hard to keep up with the scores, Bream and Tope have been the main targets inshore, we have been using spinning rods Tope fishing and it has been challenging for some anglers to control the fish but all have successfully mastered it and are enjoying the style. Over the last few days we have had 2 new species to the list a Worm Pipefish and a Shore Clingfish, this little guy was so cute with his extraordinary spotted eyes and colours.

Report on-board Chinook 3
We have not had a good run of Tope in the Estuary for a long time so it was a lovely surprise this week to see some cracking fish turning up.
View Boats Page
The biggest reported was a 57 lb fish on Derek Mole's boat Eastern Promise on Saturday followed by a 51lb and another 4 over 40lb.
There are plenty of fish between 30 and 50lb and a good run of 10 to 20lb fish as well, both male and female. Best baits are fresh mackerel but the frozen baits are starting to work as more Tope turn up and get competitive.
Because of the chances of hooking one of these big fish have increased significantly anglers should now rig up as if they are targeting them if they are using fish baits.
Re-spool your reels with good quality 25-30lb line with a shock leader, traces should be wire or heavy 150-200lb mono, 8/0 hooks and 210 gram gripper leads.
You will also need a big T bar or long nosed pliers, if you want to weigh them use a big sling and do not weigh them from the tail but support the whole body.
Finally the most important point. keep away from the mouth, hold the fish under the pecs or by the dorsal if you are feeling strong. if you get a bite from one of these fish you will be taking a ride in a helicopter for lots of stitches !!!.
There are a lot more Smooth hounds showing up especially inshore where we have seen several fish up to 16lb. These fish have been taking squid baits whilst roker fishing but anglers targeting them with hermit crab have had better results.
There are more Bass now with the biggest we have seen at a cracking 11lb from an inshore mark last week on squid.
There are still plenty of Thornbacks inshore although by the time of my next report they will probably have moved offshore.
There are a few mackerel but they are well scattered, hopefully by next week's neap tides there will be more.
Prospects are excellent, if the Tope hang around the Estuary for the summer it could be our best season for quite some time.
Tight lines.
