Report on-board Brigand
A lovely day out today with a wonderful crew. We lost some big fish (Almost certainly Tope on one occasion & Bass on the other), landed a total of 12 species including Brill, Bass & John Dory and yet still have a nagging feeling we could have done better.

Weather looks settled for the next week and Cod appear to be present in sufficient numbers to actually target them so we have a little of that planned in the coming week.

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)
Oct 2017 by Rich Ward
Report on-board Shy-Torque III
The last day off for the Shy-Torque was on Friday. We had a regular crew of well seasoned anglers on board who were happy to give it a go on what was something of a 50/50 forecast but was always a decreasing one.
View Boats Page
The morning greeted us with a bit of a NW breeze, but nothing we hadn't all put away before and once we had got in to the deeper waters a couple of miles behind the bell bouy, the conditions were getting better all the time.
We pushed out to the 7 mile reefs to start the day where the lads managed around 10 or so fish in the first half hour or so. We then decided to move out to the 9 mile reefs and found the fishing to be much better . In total for the day the group of 6 managed a combined 60 plus fish. Another mixed selection with cod to 7lb and ling to a shade under 13lbs. Pat Armstrong from Cayton Bay just south of Whitby landing the heaviest fish of ther day.
The very happy crew are pictured.
LOOK LOOK The Shy-Torque will be doing "UPTIDING" trips or (inshore trips at anchor) this year over the winter months on the bigger tides. The price per angler will be £35.00 for the day and this includes hot drinks all day on every trip. Don't forget we have the only boat in Whitby with a heated anglers cabin where everyone can be seated if needs be, on those colder days!!!
We will sail with a minimum of 2 anglers and a maximum of 6 anglers on these trips.
The boat will of course still be available for the offshore trips too.
For any info on any trips, give me a call direct to my mobile on 07733 233352 or email at richardward384@yahoo.co.uk

Fishing Report by Kevin McKie
on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)
Oct 2017 by Kevin McKie
Report on-board Size Matters
Size Matters is back on the mighty Mersey, after the 360 mile steam from Plymouth. On the way back we managed to do a few hours fishing, catching Haddock to 4lb, Whiting to 2lb and a 45lb Porbeagle. At the start of the first set of neap tides on the Mersey fishing was slow with rays to 8lb and Cod to 4lb. As the tides dropped the fishing got much better catching Thornback Ray to 8lb and Cod to 7lb 6oz. At times the rays are that thick on the ground we have had to move up to 4 times on a tide to try and get away from them. We have been catching 40 to 50 rays a trip along with Cod, Whiting, Dabs and Doggies. On one of the days I had lads from Taskers Angling out with me for there monthly charter, the weather was perfect so I said to the lads do you fancy going Wrecking for a change. All the lads said yes, our chosen wrecks where off the coast of the Isle of Man so it was a long steam out but it was well worth it thank god!!! In the first two hours the lads landed 51 Pollack to 7lb 8oz and they finished the day with 86 Pollack. From now on if we get very good weather and the lock times are right I will offer my anglers a chance at Wrecking instead of fishing the Mersey through out the winter months. The cost of Wrecking is £80 per person for individuals or whole boat is £800. Please note we will be traveling 60 plus miles and fuel is expensive in Liverpool Marina.

Another cracking day of anchored fishing on a Bank and a Reef which produced some good fish which included Tope,Turbot,Undulate Ray,Black Bream,Bull Huss,Conger etc. I have fished this particular bank three times lately and each time we have been beaten by what must be realy Big Blonde Rays and I can't wait to back and try for them again. Tim Goble landed two Personal Best's with a 40Ib Tope and a 13Ib 4oz Undulate Ray.

Report on-board Mistress
Another few successful days this week at sea for lads aboard Mistress here at Whitby in between these bouts of shocking weather!

Tuesday's 6 hour trip had been planned in for a good while, with no other takers other than Harvey and Tyler from saltburn celebrating tylers birthday that was it, I couldn't let them down so took the two excited lads, even though they'd never been boat fishing before they both left with 8 cod apiece upto 4/5lb, and thrown loads more back, well done boys!
Wednesday we had a few regulars on, I thought we took a slow picking throughout the day but the lads had managed a respectable 50-60 codlings for the day upto 7lb, another great day.
Thursday was a bit slower, we got some inshore wrecks before dropping back inside uptiding taking fish everywhere, some spots better than others. Everyone still left with a good few fish apiece.
Black lug and squid fishing the best this week but fish still taking cart readily enough. We have bait available onboard if required please let me know your requirements the night before.
Martin at Whitby angling will be opening specially for our anglers on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when we have a late start. Please ignor any rumours that you might hear about whitby angling supplies closing down, they have some superb bait instock including crab cart, as well as top of the range tackle and accessories.
Uptide festival is fast approaching £1000 1st prize plus many other cash prizes available. Entry is £5 per person on top of the charter fee of £45.
There looks to be a gap in the weather Tuesday then Thursday onwards were currently taking bookings. I will be looking to be running a night trip next week please keep an eye out for updates, please give me a call if you're interested in a trip with us on 07977 436903

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
As the summer species depart it is good to see the arrival of the Channel Whiting in good numbers and excellent quality for this early in the season. London based angler JJ bought his family and business partner for a day out and boated many good Whiting and several other species. As a bit of fun we went squid fishing for the 1st time not really knowing how to fish for them and as the sunset over the harbour we started to land a few and we only managed to get ‘inked’ once which caused a laugh , as the darkness drew in we kept catching squid and ended up with 1/2 a bucket full not bad for our 1st attempt. Join me on these trips and enjoy a day afloat fishing amongst good company.

We had fish right from the start to finish basically whitting and doggies a cast on a quite strong tide. Picture of few keeper whitting.Fish returned were 4 small codling, 3 small female skate, shame wernt bigger but early days for cod. Water temp at 14 degrees at moment not cod water but should start to get colder soon nearly november.! Big thanks to Dean for organising everybody much appreciated looking forward to next trip.

Yesterday's group enjoyed a days rough ground fishing on the 9 mile boating around 70 fish between themselves. Plenty of different species boated. Lots of nice filleted fish for one and all for the table. Nothing big on this trip, the best going around 7lbs. Thanks to my lad Adam for filleting it all on the way back to port.

The boat operates all year round, weekdays and weekends and we will sail with a minimum of 3 anglers at this time of year.
