  • 23/09/2016 Fishing Report by Steve Green on Brigand (Brighton, East Sussex)

23 Sep 2016 by Steve Green

    Report on-board Brigand

The tale of the Green net.....
When I bought Brigand down to Brighton the previous skipper Kevin McKie (now operating "Size Matters" out of Plymouuth/Liverpool (great angler, great skipper & great boat so if you are ever down that way hit Kev up) left a huuuuge green net onboard. I mean this thing is massive, almost 4ft across and I have been tripping over it and meaning to take it off the boat for the last 6 months. Yesterday I was so glad I didn't!!! It was pressed into service 3 times for 20lb plus Blonde Ray's, the biggest over 25lb, patiently and skilfully landed by Sam.
I knew we had a chance of a big Blonde but 3 of them at 20lb+ and a cracker over 25lb exceeded expectation. Target species were Brill and Turbot, happy to report that we boated 9 Turbot & 1 Brill up to 8lb 3oz - beautiful deep fish in prime condition.
A great group of anglers who worked hard all day and were fantastic company so a big thank you to all for making the day so memorable.
Interestingly, the two best fish of the day were caught as the sun was setting mid-channel so very pleased we decided to stay out on the banks and not at all concerned that we arrived back in Brighton in the dark gone 10pm. £45 for 13hrs of Turbot, Brill & Giant Blonde's - worth thinking about perhaps?
Our focus is now moving to Winter Cod and as always with Brigand only the best and biggest will do - £50 will secure you quality tackle, quality bait, quality boat with no extras but as our reputation grows sadly the availability reduces so if you want to be assured of an excellent day out on the water get in touch soon.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • 22/09/2016 Fishing Report by TERRY BATT on Vanishing Point-2 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

22 Sep 2016 by TERRY BATT

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Well with the weather being fantastic all week we have got offshore nearly every day to fish for Bass, lost count how many were landed and returned, and some medium Bass size Bass kept for the table but the sport was brilliant.

I know you all think Nic was kicking my butt earlier this week.. but I landed a cracker yesterday under the watchful eye of my old mate and mentor John Rawle, in this photo John can be seen (under the watchful eye of first mate Nicola..!) getting to grips with how Vanishing Point-2 works and the hope is even though John has officially retired, we will not lose this fishing icon to retirement but may see him out on either Vanishing Point, or Chinook-2, from time to time..??? back to my fish...! and with a quick photo was slipped back to fight another day..!! (I don't like fish to eat....yuck) but with so many fish out there you could be very selective on what one you wanted to keep.

These fish will still be there well into October, weather dependant, but if you want to have a go for these hard fighting fish, mostly for sport I must emphasise..... then call me on 07768306646 to work out dates, as sadly the tides don't always fall on a weekend, more likely it will be week days but it is tide and weather critical to get it right..!!
    Tight lines...!!

  • 09/2016 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Sep 2016 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

[This report was written when Size Matters was operating from Plymouth]

We have been shark fishing for the last six day's, most of the lad's and lady's we have had onboard have never caught a blue or porbeagle shark before. We totalled 158 blue shark to 130lb and 1 porbeagle shark about 20lb over the six day's. The most we had in one day was 52 shark's a new boat record!
A lot of the shark's caught where 10lb to 65lb and at time's we where catching them on light spinning tackle which is great fun.
Next year's shark fishing date's are filling fast, give me a call if you fancy having ago with us.

    Cheers
    Kev,
    Size Matters Plymouth,

  • 09/2016 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

    Sep 2016 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

As I write this particular monthly report I've just finished a trip which saw bass, tope, pollock, turbot and congers all in one day; a testament to the variety of species available at the moment. Although the fishing at anchor inshore has slowed up slightly, fishing on the drift is keeping us busy with good numbers of plaice on the light gear with many other species such as red mullet, dabs, smoothound, bream and gurnard as well. The last spring tide saw one of our best bass trips this year so far, with plenty of fish for the table and fish being returned too. Since the mackerel have moved on we have been using lures which means we get at least an hour extra on the banks as we don’t have to mess around with the live bait. Long distance the wrecks are producing some quality ling, the biggest so far going to Bob Morrison at 23lb. The cod and pollock are thin on the ground so the best fishing is at anchor with good numbers of tope and bream on show. By the time I write next month's report I will probably have done the first winter cod trip of the season.
