    Report on-board Spot On!

July has bee a turn around month with the start of July wrecking still producing good quality and plenty of numbers of cod and Pollock,
Sessions at anchor have produced the first big wreck bream, eels and ling.
Ling have been in numbers also but towards the end of July the mackerel have arrived and the cod and Pollock fishing has all but disappeared, luckily with enough easy bait its been good sessions for ling and eel.

Pictured is Phil with his fine conger of 75lb

Thanks to all your continued support and to my sponsors for there great lures and fantastic rigs.

    Report on-board Spot On!

What can we say about June!
The cod fishing again has been amazing and long may it continue, some big summer Pollock also still around.

Guernsey banks have produced turbot, brill and lots of black bream, we are still awaiting the arrival of mackerel in numbers though so finding bait is hard.

Pictured is regular Barry with a fine 20lb+ Cod.

  • 09/2016 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Sep 2016 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

[This report was written when Size Matters was operating from Plymouth]

It's hard work being a charter skipper at time's, trying to keep all your angler's happy and helping them catch the species they are targeting. A few day's ago I had my work cut out for me, the plan was to anchor for conger. So I picked a wreck I know has big conger on, after a 3 hour steam out we got to the wreck and it was netted. In fact all the wreck's in that area where netted, so I said to the lad's. We can anchor this one but you mite lose lot's of tackle, or we can steam out further to another group of wreck's and fish them. The lad's all said let's go further out after another hour or so steam, we got to the wreck's with no net's on. The only problem now was we had lost most of the ebb tide, so we had to drift around with bait and lure's until the flood tide kicked so we could get the anchor down. When we got the anchor down for the last two and a half hour's of the day all hell broke lose, we totalled 33 conger to 60lb and 25 ling to 27lb, between 8 angler's. To say the wreck was a live is a understatement, if you have never anchored for conger mid channel before I would highly recommend it as it's fast a furious fishing at time's and give's you a good workout. This charter turned into a 14 hour charter just to get the angler's on fish at no extra cost.
Shark fishing has been very good best day we have had this week was 27 blue shark to 95lb and 1 small porbeagle about 25lb.
Inshore on the reef's is a bit slow with a few ling to 18lb, conger to 20lb and pollack to 6lb. There is only a few date's available now until we move to Liverpool on October 17th for the winter cod season, if you fancy a day out with us please get in touch.

    Cheers
    Kev

  • 15/09/2016 Fishing Report by Steve Green on Brigand (Brighton, East Sussex)

15 Sep 2016 by Steve Green

    Report on-board Brigand

Another cracking day out on Brigand with a fantastic group from London.
We headed out on a flat sea looking for Turbot & Brill, first drift we had a Brill aboard, second drift a Turbot - job done! It wasn't mile a minute stuff and patience was the order of the day but we had a steady stream of Big Tub Gurnard, Bull Huss, Red Gurnard and a nice double figure Thornback for John between the flatties.
This report wouldn't be complete without a "one that got away story" - Tang was left wondering what it was that bent his rod in half for 10 minutes and eventually took a lunge into the deep snapping his 20lb trace..... 30lb trace now on order!!
You get to meet some wonderful people in this game and today's crowd were as good as they come, thanks for making the day memorable and look forward to welcoming you aboard again soon.

  • 15/09/2016 Fishing Report by Philip Higgins on Mistress Linda / San Gina3 (Poole, Dorset)

15 Sep 2016 by Philip Higgins

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

The good weather has continued and the temperatures have remained high which has bought in some spectacular lightning storms and may be pretty to view when on land but are very scary when out on the water. Poole Harbour has produced excellent Plaice catches with up to 60 being caught in a single session Chris Colledge landed a new PB of 3lb 10ozs, small to medium sized Bream are in abundance throughout the Harbour and although good fun to catch soon exhaust bait supplies. 1st time lady angler Liz Rouss whilst on holiday from London caught a 5lb 2 ozs Ballan Wrasse during a short 3hr trip and is now taking up the sport on a regular basis. Dave Colcough landed a Dover Sole adding to his species tally during an evening session along with Bass, Gurnards, Smoothhounds and many pesky Bream. In Poole Bay the hard fighting and very illusive Trigger Fish are the prime target, during a trip organised by a local angling club to promote junior anglers to take up boat fishing Flora Munden set a new club record for Trigger Fish at 3lb 2ozs and Andy Mapstone landed a Couch’s Bream (a new species for Mistress Linda). Drifting along the beaches provided many other species inc Gurnards, Bream and the occasional Turbot / Brill. Mackeral after being so plentiful switched off overnight with just the odd fish being caught. The outer bank marks on the weaker tides produce good sized Rays, Tope and Bull Huss whilst offshore the wrecks at anchor are producing good catches of Congers, larger Bream. As the season change and autumn arrives the summer species will go on their travels and Channel Whiting will arrive followed by the winter Cod.

  • 14/09/2016 Fishing Report by Steve Green on Brigand (Brighton, East Sussex)

14 Sep 2016 by Steve Green

    Report on-board Brigand

Had the pleasure of Wengi and his friends aboard Brigand today and it was a pleasure. Conditions were borderline to fish in comfortably (often the way of late) with a forecast to improve so we gave it a shot.
Not a Red Letter day by any means but they had Bass, Garfish & a box of the most enormous mackerel I have seen this year, caught in the most unusual manner on a very surprising bait..... Now we know where to stock up on big Turbot baits but at that size a few are also destined for Sushi & BBQ - nice :-)
Well done Wengi & co. For toughing it out and hope you enjoy your Bass & Sushi tonight.

Whole boat currently available this Sunday & long range weather looks excellent - wrecking/Turbot on the cards so get aboard!
    Best wishes
