Derek from hartlepool booked the boat for 2 days pollack fishing(17 & 18 august) and werent disappointed.
mackerel were prolific on the headlands and as we had no ragworm, this was the preferred bait.sandeel was floatfished with no success except 3 snapoffs....artificials took some fish but freelined mackerel belly was the best method accounting for the 2 best fish (10.5lb and 7lb) and they both came from the harbour entrance...some 30 fish on day one averaging 3-4lb,day 2 slightly smaller but still as hungry!!

  • 08/2016 Fishing Report by Aaron Smith on Bad Boyz VI (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Report on-board Bad Boyz VI

Report from a recent wrecking trip.

The lads wanted to be back by a certain time so we gave them options of a shorter trip out to deeper wrecks or to try some wrecks that we normally fish late May early June before the temps warm up down deep.

On arrival at the first wreck some 18 miles south the sounder showed a good patch of fish but after the first few drifts this soon played out to be fish in the 2-5lb range bit exactly what we were looking for sooo I quick discussion over a fresh breakfast butty we turned the boat headed west and powered the boat up to speed for 45 minutes out to the deep waters.

A few wrecks targeted and soon we had a large quantity of fish to the boat in the 8-12lb range.......can we say business as usual?

We got the lads back to the mariner for 6pm so they could make there journey back home and full of fresh hotpot from the steam back to port.

Thanks again to Swan Fishing Club, see you next time

  • 18/08/2016 Fishing Report by Ian Dale on Kelley's Hero Charters (Gosport, Hampshire)

18 Aug 2016 by Ian Dale

    Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters

August has been a funny month so far, but then again it always is.
We started the month with a good run of mackerel and a few different species showing to where we are now with the inshore trips being hard work.

As the inshore trips are now getting harder, we have decided to focus our trips on the Plaice fishing. We have done a few Plaice trips this month with many nice plaice showing. Along with Plaice we have had a nice few Brill and turbot. This is nice to see as last year we only had 2 brill altogether, and this year we are doing this per trip.

The last plaice trip we did, didn’t end very well for us as the boat decided it was going to spring a leak, and as many of you know this is never good on a boat, so we had to head in early. We had a great start to the day though, the weather was calm, the sun was shining and the plaice were biting.

We have done 2 inshore trips this month so far. The first one which was earlier in the month wasn’t as hard as the latest one. We have had species such as smoothounds, undulates, thorn backs, blondes, and small eyed rays, bream, mackerel, plenty of scad and tope.
The second trip was very hard work and we only had a handful of mackerel, scad, 2 dogfish and a smoothound.

Two other trips we did this month so far, were the Cowes week fireworks, and a half day trip.
We headed up towards Cowes for some mackerel fishing, before heading to our spot to watch the fireworks and eat our hot dogs. We caught a few mackerel scad and a herring.

The half day trip produced many dogfish, a nice thornback ray and some smoothounds. The mackerel weren’t playing again but the scad were. The only thing we have noticed about the mackerel we have had this year is that they have been perfect bait size.

Looking forward at the weather it looks like we are going to have to cancel our evening trips that we had scheduled and our last wrecking trip of the season. We will be putting on another evening trip or two but not another wrecking trip. Seems our bait freezer is going to have to stay full for another few days.

We will be mainly plaice fishing for the remainder of August, if you would like a chance to catch a nice plaice, brill or the odd turbot, then please call on 07795 538933

    Ian :-)

  • 17/08/2016 Fishing Report by peter mccullagh on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

17 Aug 2016 by peter mccullagh

    Report on-board Mistress

Another excellent trip on the Mistress with Rich. for a change it was an evening trip with my sister and her family. A short trip out past the piers he soon put us on plenty of mackerel to start us off then off we went in search of bigger fish We caught two beautiful big Pollock and a nice size cod. Three or four undersized cod went back for another day. For a family's evening fishing it was ideal and would definitely recommend it with Rich keeping an eye on everybody and sorting out tangles and making sure we were all doing it right.
