    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Saturday... what a start, wall to wall sunshine a boat buzzing with anglers high expectations, and boy were they rewarded, it was a party made up as usual of different guys from all over, but with one passion..... fishing..!!
Once we slipped the ropes, and jogged out of our berth, the engines were warming up nicely, by the time we got out to the baffle, the tide was flooding hard, but as we pushed the throttles forward to her cruising speed of 20 knots we didn't notice the tide as it has little influence on the Vanishing Point, being so fine at the bow, and in just 20 minutes we were at the fishing spot No1.
It didn't take long before the first fish came to the boat, then it was just a steady stream of fish until the tide started to slow up, so we lifted the anchor and went for deeper water to pick up a bit more tide, I must say, it was running pretty hard, harder than I anticipated..!! there was about an hour of flood tide left, so the tide did slow down fairly quickly and we had just a lovely trickle running passed the boat, just enough to tempt the fish to bite, and they didn't disappoint..!! we had yet another manic hour before the top of the tide.
With the size of the tide being a huge 5.7 metres, I decided to up anchor and move several miles NW, and dropped in shallower water, ready for the ebb tide to rush out of the Blackwater, and it did...lol but we were ready for it, and once again the boys were catching right up to the point the engines were fired up, and Reg had the last 8 lbs fish on.... he does anything to hold me up from going home....lol
It was interesting, as Nicola was gutting one of the Roker, she called me out and said her knife wouldn't cut through, and on inspection, the Roker had swallowed a huge Garfish and Nic's knife was running across it's snout... very hard...!! so that's my new bait if I get any.... Garfish..
Ok guys, that's it for now, we are out tomorrow, just sad we could not get a party for today, so I am sat here writing this report instead of being on the boat catching my anglers a shed-load of fish.....hey that's the way it is i guess ...tight lines ...!!!

    Apr 2016 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

My Way regular Steve Harrison from Manchester, enjoyed another cracking day aboard My Way this week. As with most trips we started off inshore with a good number of doggies, small codling and small huss. Steve managed something different with a nice spotted ray.
Lunchtime we headed out to Holyhead Deep and were then rewarded with plenty of spurdogs and huss for the crew, with Steve also bagging up for him himself

  • 04/2016 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    Apr 2016 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

April seems to have continued the trend of the 'NE & E' direction winds which has meant a lot of lost days at sea for Spot On of Brixham.

However on the occasion we have managed to squeeze a trip or 2 in the fishing has been very up and down to be honest. Some days producing quality fish, some days producing quantity of fish and some days have been just bumper days with it all mixed together.

It has been a great year so far for Ling for Spot On with already many fish in the 20lb+ mark and a couple of 30lb+ mark also boated.

We are seeing more and more cod each trip with our last wreking trip seeing 5 boated so this is early for them so lets hope its another great year for the cod for Spot On like the last few years have been.

A lonely Coalfish has also made an appearance making one angler very happy as he has spent a lifetime trying to catch one.

Most of the fish have been coming to Sidewinders with a few Long caught on bait.

Thanks to sidewinders again for there sponsorship and continued support.

A 2 day 'red eye' Guernsey trip was squeezed in and I am glad to say the food is still great at the La Perla restaurant, wreck fishing wasn't bad either with each angler taking home plenty of fillets that were prepared by crew man Phil as usual.

Hopefully May will bring some settled weather as we have a few Guernsey trips booked in and the calendar is nearly full so my fingers and toes are crossed for some nice weather.

Pictured is not something you see every day, a drift with Sidewinder lures producing 3 Ling all over 20lb in weight each, we would have had a couple more but they bit through the trace line's during the fight.

Remember there is only one Catamaran that operates from Brixham and only one 'Spot On', Brixham's premier charter boat.

    Taking bookings for 2017

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

Fishing on the drift has been most of our days out over the last month, either on the wrecks or on the sand for the flatties. The abundance of herring spread out over the ground has been a good source of fresh bait to help target the turbot. Plenty of fish coming to the net but it's also good to see anglers getting involved in catch and release to keep numbers up for the future. We have managed our first bream of the year but for the first time ever it didn't come from the inshore reefs. It took a squid bait whilst anchored up on a wreck about 30 miles off, at 3lb 8oz it is probably one of the bigger bream we have had to open the season with. Elsewhere on the wrecks the pollock continue to provide good sport and we have also had the first few cod up to about the 8lb mark. Out on a flat calm day yesterday we were also treated to the rare sight of a coalfish amongst the pollock. Next week we shall be heading across to Alderney for the first time this season.
