  • 04/2016 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Apr 2016 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

[This report was written when Size Matters was operating from Plymouth]

On Wednesday we had the lad's from Taskers Angling Liverpool onboard for there first trip to Plymouth. The pressure was on to show them just how good the fishing can be in the English Channel.
I told the lad's the weather was perfect for Wednesday but Thursday was going to go bad in the afternoon. I suggested we have a very long day on Wednesday then Thursday just fish inshore till the weather turned bad.
The lad's all agreed to do just that, we started at 6am on Wednesday. We headed out, after a few hours we where at our first mark. From the first drift the lad's where into fish and it didn't stop till the lad's had enough at about 2.30pm. What a first day 64 fish on the boat, Ling to 22lb, Pollack to 16lb and Cod to 12lb.
On the Thursday we started at 6am and just fished the inshore marks, the fishing started off well then as the flood tide picked up against the east wind the fishing became much harder so we headed in about 2pm. We totalled 21 fish on the boat Ling to 17lb 8oz, Cod to 10lb and Pollack to 9lb. Not too bad for a few hours inshore fishing.
The lad's still enjoyed the day even though they where still tired from the day before.
At the end of the two day's the lad's had enough fillets each to start there own chippy ha ha.
Also on Tuesday we managed a trip to the skerries plaice fishing, three lad's from Nottingham booked the whole boat.
When we got to the skerries the water was very coloured due to the south east gale's a few days before. The fishing was going to be hard with far from ideal condition's we totalled 20+ plaice to 1lb 8oz, 4 small blonde ray to 7lb, 6 spurdog to 10lb, whiting and dogfish. All on the drift fishing for plaice, we spoke to a few local boat's there and they where struggling as well. One boat said he was out before the south east gale's started and he caught 53 plaice to 4lb. With that in mind we will be having another go for them on the 20th or 21st depending on the weather.
Here are the next available date's in April,
    Monday 18th whole boat available,
    Wednesday 20th 6 place's available,
    Thursday 21st 5 place's available,
    Saturday 23rd 7 place's available,

    Cheers
    Kev

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

    14.04.2016.
Approaching the end of the Spring competition here at Whitby now guys.

We decided that a run off shore again today was in order, to try for the big one.
Nothing to challenge the leading fish, but Bill Wildey from Edinburgh took yet another 1st daily prize for the Shy-Torque crew with a nice Cod of (I think) 9 lb 9 oz.

    Bill is pictured.

    Cheers
    Rich.

  • 04/2016 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Apr 2016 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

Local angler Phil Crompton had not fished afloat for a good number of years, concentrating his efforts more on the shore. Wanting to find his way back into boat angling, Phil chose a trip to Holyhead Deep this week to kick start his angling escapades afloat.

The rewards came thick and fast with plenty of bits inshore followed by some great spurdog fishing …

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Fishing is on fire at the moment, with many triple and quadruple hookup's so if you want to get in on the action
we do have some spaces available this coming Sunday April 17th so if you would like to join us then call 07768306646

The Clay shooting has become so popular that we have yesterday picked up the advanced Mk-2 clay trap...!!
this one has a longer arm to throw the clays further, and it is mounted on a sub-plate which oscillates left to right, and also up and down movement, so this will be more challenging for the more accomplished shooters..!! but for the beginner, we can just operate the trap as before, and flick the clays off the corner of the boat... should be even more awesome......

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

Wreck fishing from Poole is superb at the moment with plenty of Pollack in all sizes on the wreck and a few cod showing as well. Yesterday in superb conditions we hit the wrecks to the south of Poole and were rewarded in big numbers of pollack and our 1st Mackeral of the year then as we anchored for the slack water a pod of small Dolphins surrounded the boat and played then a large naval vessel passed close by and the 4 helicopters from the vessel circled us giving the guys some awesome pictures, the fishing was not that good over the slack but the displays made up for that

  • 13/04/2016 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

13 Apr 2016 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

A cracking forecast today allowed us to try some more distant offshore wrecks in search of the Spring festival winner.

A mixed group of regulars along with newcomers to the boat resulted in a reasonable show of fish for the lads today.
Starting on a wreck 17 miles North of the harbour and finishing on one some 27 miles from shore, the lads ended up with around 60 fish between them. Not a brilliant catch numbers wise, but some good quality fish, with the best fish falling to regular Shy-Torque angler Guy Wrightson who took 1st daily again. Guy lead the comp at the start with a nice Ling of just over 12 lbs.

His Pollack today of 9 lbs winning the £50.00 daily 1st prize.
His mate Craig Simmonds taking 3rd daily prize.

    Guy is pictured.

    Cheers and tight lines
    Rich

  • 12/04/2016 Fishing Report by jon old on High Flyer 2 (Great Yarmouth, Norfolk)

12 Apr 2016 by jon old

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Just a catch up on latest trips to be honest we havent bothered with any photos as the fishing has over the past month been nothing but whiting and flatties and the odd codling thrown in, most weekends have been cancelled due to the storms particularly the bank holiday lost 4 days! On a positive note fishing has improved few early skate appearing on the lines not far off so wont be long before numbers turn up for us. Unfortunately still catching whiting plenty yesterday all day few decent ones among them actually. Caught our first smoothound of the year yesterday small but a start great to see and now everybodys favourite the dreaded spotty dogs are in but giving us sport you cant knock even though there a pest! No flatties for us yesterday but huge tides at the mo now decreasing nice to see a couple of pouting inshore came aboard as well. So in all its looking like spring is starting another boat caught small codling today could be the start of a spring codling run only time will tell lets hope so! Those interested in a few night time sessions please contact us get your name down as wind is dropping at night now thank god, still leaving about 6pm return at midnight so you can still go to work next day proving very popular last year better than watching Eastenders i reckon. So hopefully pictures will be back on when something worth photographing appears do look at summer dates as places going all the while book to avoid dissapointment. Leave it with you until then tight lines everyone.
