  • 30/06/2013 Fishing Report by Ron Angel on Why Worry (Burnham-On-Crouch, Essex)

30 Jun 2013 by Ron Angel

    Report on-board Why Worry

With the weather forecast giving the wind coming around 1pm it was going to need to be an early start and see how we fared once we got offshore a way.
The call was that we would give it a whirl, catch a few Mackerel have a another look once we had achieved that part of the equation.
An early start was called for as I wanted the boys at the boat for a 4.30AM Sailing to ensure we was at the Mackerel mark for slack HW and also to ensure we at least had half a chance at the Tope if we was to make a run off for them before the wind came.
The Mackerel were hard to come by today. We managed a dozen in around 90 minutes which by now I had the hump to say the least. Up and down the bank for one here, one there 2 here, 2 there. We had the discussion and the boys were given the choice of the run off for a crack at the Tope with the little bait we had or stay in the 20 mile range and fish for Hounds etc. The Tope call was made so off we dashed for a 20 mile run. We started in 65ft as the Tide was still running hard. I wasn't so confident of a Tope here but we needed to kill a couple of hours until the tide eased enough to drop off into the 100+ foot line.
Plenty of life in the 65ft in the way of Rokers and some big Hounds which the new guy and Carp angler Dean was happy to catch. They were a good stamp of 12-15lb fish so worth a dangle for.
As the Tide eased we dropped off into the deeper water and waited. More Hounds for Dean who was fishing with Crab.
Then Rothie had a run....Trouble was it was a lively Roker giving it large in the Tide lol
We sat there and waited and waited. Got to say I was impressed with Tiny at this stage whom I was sure that any minute was going to chuck the Tope fishing in and go on the Crab for the Hounds but he stuck it out as did Moley, Nick and Rothie.
Then finally as even I started to despair Rothie got the run we had been waiting for and we swiftly boated a nice female Tope of 42lb.
That unfortunately was it but that's how the Tope fishing works. Sometimes you get a few other times none or just the one.
Right on key the wind came and by the time we back in the Middle Deeps it was horrible with everybody running for shelter....Again.
Thanks for coming guys, we tried and we got just the one.
It was a lovely morning's but a shite afternoons weather with great company....Until next time.

  • 02/07/2013 Fishing Report by Ron Angel on Why Worry (Burnham-On-Crouch, Essex)

2 Jul 2013 by Ron Angel

    Report on-board Why Worry

Looking at todays forecast I figured we could get an early start, stay localish and maybe get away with fishing until about 11.30am when the wind was due to come and then a quick dash and be in the lee of the banks and away home. We was away from Burnham at 4.30am on the dot. Crew today was made up of the 'Work shy members'. Myself,Dan,Nick and Andy.
As it happened, the wind never really came at all and it was quite a pleasant day which could of seen us way off at the Tope again.
The Mackerel were playing hard to get but eventually we got a few full strings that saw enough bait for the day and some over for dinner.
A pretty eventful day really with some nice Bass in the 5lb-7lb bracket (Even I caught a Bass today) Rokers, quite a few 'Topelets' and the full monty of Sand Sharks. We kept some and chucked some back. There is only so many 'Sea Rats' you would want to keep.
Thanks for coming guys. See you all again very soon. Another good day on 'Why Worry' with good company.

    Report on-board Lady Grace

Today I had 4 adults out for a 3 hour trip and 4 year old Freddie came along for the ride. We fished down to low water and as the tide died we headed in as I had a pirate party booked for later on that day. We finished with 5 whiting, 2 around the 1lb mark and 3 little ones and Stu caught a bass just over a 1lb. A lovely family trip out.

Wed 03/07. So the poor spring now shows signs of finally ending so we thought we would take ourselves off and have a look at some wrecks on the small tides today, found over 20 cod today and a lot of really good size, had a great bunch of lads today and all very eager despite an early start,,, nice to see some wrecks holding some fish again, and we also mustn't forget the mackerel and a few wrasse that also put in an appearance. HAPPY DAYS

  • 29/06/2013 Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

29 Jun 2013 by Malcolm Collins

    Report on-board Just Mary

A good weekend 29th/30th June aboard 'Just Mary' from Poole on a reef to the east of Poole Bay. Surprisingly we were on our own with the whole reef to ourselves. Black Bream in prime condition with big blue male fish and females still with roe, just like early May fish but in late June ! Good numbers and good size fish to my experienced local lads and some decent quality fish to my hire rod group and youngsters from a local Youthclub, with some catching their first ever sea fish, like the man from Fladen says, 'Anyone can Fish !' Well on 'Just Mary' we can prove that to be true ! I hope these prime condition fish continue well into July, it's nice to get out for two days without the threat of Gale force winds, and find that the Bream are still here in quality and quantity. All the best, Malc.
