    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The crew on the Shy-Torque today were again a mixed lot from all over the place, as far afield as Scotland!!

The ground fishing proved the best for these lads today and we managed to gather a fine selection of both cod and ling. Nothing of any real size, however there were a few ( what looked like ) better fish hooked and lost through too much heavy "pumping" !

With a good number of mackerel showing at the bouy this morning this was to be the best bait today with the lads tipping the hokkai traces.

Pictured is Dave Bowman, a mate of mine from Liverton Mines, Cleveland.

  • 17/07/2012 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

17 Jul 2012 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

What a lovely day to be at sea today! only a light breeze and sun shine all day, it actually felt like summer!

We're still on neap tides, so a bit of wrecking was in order today!
We sailed and got to our first mark as the ebb tide was starting to push, I decided to start on the wreck where we caught a good few cod the day before. Sadly we only took a few Whiting for our efforts, so a quick a move to a reef nearby saw us making a start on the better fish!

First drop saw around 4 Codlings and a couple of Ling. We continued fishing the reef edges taking a steady picking each drift.
As the fishing eased I moved to a small wreck and the lads took a few more Codlings.
The tide started easing at this point to I moved to a wreck which can occasionally throw out a few better fish.

The lads managed a few mackerel for bait on arrival then started dropping the bigger baits for the better fish! Well, we came up trumps today, we managed a couple of cod around the 10lb mark, plenty of Ling then on our second to last drift one of lads struck into something a little better!

He managed to turn the fish as it made for the wreck, and I instructed him to slow down and wind steady, a quick adjustment of his drag saw him wind the fish to the surface with a few lunges from the fish taking line each time! I got the gaff into it and it spun taking the gaff out my hand! after a heart stopping 3 seconds I leaned over side and got it back and boated the fish.

After unhooking and weighing, we had a Ling 27lb on the boat, one very pleased angler and I must admit I was a bit excited too! absolutely typical that the festival ended a week and a half ago had it been caught in the festival Andy would have netted himself a cool £5000! better luck next time.

  • 16/07/2012 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

16 Jul 2012 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

We started the day on a wreck a few miles from port today as it was pretty much slack water when we got out. The lads set about taking a steady picking of fish until the tide started pushing. Although the day wasnt hectic the lads took a steady picking of fish all day from each mark we stopped at. Bait fished better today although the shads still accounted for a few nice fish.

We worked a mixture of ground and wrecks today catching quite a few fish into double figures. Finally on a wreck we took an extra 20-30 codlings and pollock to finish the day on high note.

Species taken today include, Ling to 15lb, Cod to 10lb, Pollock to 6lb, thean a mixture of Coalie, Whiting, Pouting, Mackerel and Tub Gurnard.

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Today was a testing day for all , the weather report totally wrong ,wind being its usual pain making conditions difficult. The rain didnt improve conditions but well done to the lads for sticking the day. Plan was to try some inshore wrecks out on the 9 mile mark sounder showing plenty but could we get them! Not playing ball at all today no explanation, tried all manner of tactics with well experienced anglers we struggled. Results were a small ling, mackerel, one small turbot nice to see and lovely tope pictured caught over a bank on fresh mackerel. Big thanks to Ian for organizing trip, Chalky for crewing today, Mark A,Mark B, Willy,Tom,Chris, Andy and Kelvin. First time on the High Flyer for your group pity the fish were not as i expected today nor the weather we had bit of a rough one all round hope next time we get it right, many thanks men for the day.
    Jon.

  • 12/07/2012 Fishing Report by Gary Flint on Discovery (Liverpool, Merseyside)

12 Jul 2012 by Gary Flint

    Report on-board Discovery

    Thursday 12th July

We left the marina with the hopes of getting offshore. As we approached the lighthouse we could see the turbines spinning and didnt know how far we could get out. The forecast was for a decresing wind all day, we all made the choice to bottom fish whilst waiting for the wind to decrease. We dropped the anchor on a mark 28miles from Liverpool. The lines were in the water and straight from the off we were into mackeral, gurnard, dogfish. With everyone getting plauged with doggies we decided to head offshore. We got to the chosen mark and fished straight away. A few decent Cod and Pollack were brought aboard and with everybody happy we decided to go to another mark further out. With various baits over the side, John Tandy hooked into a nice bullhuss of 17lb 10oz and Nev hooked into and boated a very nice Cod of 7lb 10oz closely followed by Paul with another Cod. The guys were enjoying themselves that much that knowbody noticed it was time to head in.

A good day was had by all.

A PICTURE SPEAKS A THOUSAND WORDS!

    Report on-board Sunbeam III

Mon 16th July - Went to go and look at some wrecks today- although damp everyone was still keen! Drifted the first 2 bit quiet for our liking so went and had a look at another one.... We stayed here for about 3 hours every drift bringing up bigger better Cod each time- after a while it slowed off a bit so went and had a look at a couple more that were a bit snaggy and not alot of fish on. Moved on to the next and stayed here for the rest of the day landing tones of Cod, Also seen a few Wrasse, Pouting and Whiting today- If we could have we would of stayed longer and kept pulling fish up, so much so much for the other 5 wrecks we were going to try!!!!.... What a crackin day 57 Cod landed! All good size between 6-12lb! HAPPY DAYS!!!

16 Jul 2012 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

A mixed group of lads enjoyed an unusually settled day at sea today on the Shy-Torque. Sea conditions were good but the stuff from upstairs hit us yet again. A proper oilskin day !!

It seemed like we were on a species hunt without realising it with 9 different species on board throughout the day.

Nothing much of any great size today, however the lads did enjoy boating plenty of codling to just over 8lbs and a good number of ling to just over 10lbs.

Best methods today were without doubt the Hokkai traces tipped with squid or mackerel.

Pictured is Mick Long with a nice haddock.

    Report on-board Bad Boyz VI

Fishing inshore this last week due to the weather not being the best.

The bay is producing plenty of Rays and Huss with a few smothies still around and the odd Tope run here and there.

The last weekend saw a big competion organised by my self and a local angler Goeff, A great turn out with 35 poeple attending which required 4 boats.
Most were knew to the sport which is fantastic to see and have the pleasure of tutoring them through the day.
The winning prize was £180 to the heavyest fish which ended to be the first fish caught on the day a lovely 12lb blonde ray.

A superb result and to be shceduled for similar time next year and fingeres crossed to possibly increase to yet another boat.

Over the weekend we had in excess of 30 rays mostly being Spotted rays with some small Blondes and the first ever Cuckoo ray aboard the boat.
Plenty of Huss made an aperence with many other smaller species.

Best spot on the day was a certain position only known to myself which produced a fantastic 12 species at anchor.

Couple of days off know then start on the wrecks and Spurdogs from wednesday onwards.
