    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The 2012 Summer festival is coming to a close now here at Whitby with just 2 days left to grab the 5 grand 1st prize along with various other big cash prizes!!!

Anglers on the Shy Torque have been enjoying some cracking fishing over the last 2 weeks or so ,with good number of daily prize winners thrown in. In fact we currently have more daily prizes on the board than any of the other boats who have entered!!

The big one is still eluding us, however we have had some very big fish on the lines which could have been contenders. Our best to press being a cod just short of 16lbs.

We are currently holding 1st place in the ladies section, 3rd place in the ling section and 1st and 2nd places in the species category.

If the weather for the last 2 days stays kind to us then who knows..........we might still have a chance of finding him!!! (or her )

Pictured is Lee Smith from York with his daily prize winning cod just short of 16lbs.

    Report on-board Amino

Funny how things turn out aint it?

Having set out in view of searching for a few Bass with the big tide today, we headed out to a spot where theres been a few caught recently. Trawlers and nets in the area suggested fish would be there and after a few dogfish and a small whiting, Cliff had what looked like another Doggy bite. Reeling into it, it came to the boat easily and then the rod tip started jagging and a Bass estimated around 8-9lb surfaced at the boat where it promptly dived and shed the hook...:-(

We moved after the next hour didnt produce but with poor visibility we couldnt head off any distance so settled behind a bank where we had a few more Dogs and a Flounder. As visibilty improved and with no Bass showing up we headed offshore further and found some Hounds to 9lb, Doggies, a stray Cod around 5lb and a Pout before Cliff had another bite and hooked into something that started jagging on the rod tip.....

This was the result....a 12lb personal best Bass for Cliff and a new boat record for Amino. Well chuffed. :-)

  • 30/06/2012 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

30 Jun 2012 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

    End of June.

We have been experiencing some great fishing here in Whitby through June, most days to sea have seen us returning with some fantastic catches.

Recently we have been catching plebty of Cod into double figures Pollock aproaching double figures and Ling also into double figures. The Pollock and Ling sport should start to get better now we are into July. Popular lures thats are catching most of the fish include shads, sidewinders and powerbait sandeels. Rhubard and custard, white, pink, and blue being the better colours.

Now the water has started clearing out we can start looking at the possibility of planning some specialist evening trips, plugging and using live Sandeels for the Pollock and Bass.

    tight lines for now

    Report on-board Supreme

Well what can I say about this afternoons 7 hr trip a great bunch of lads from Warrington on their first ever fishing trip all with tackle hire .

We started off with some mackerel, then progressed onto some flatties and whiting ,dog ,small huss, and a couple of thornback rays then a 37lb tope for Scott ,then changed everybody over to the tope rigs and bang 55lb tope for one of the lads ,then we had a couple of fish pick the bait up and run only to drop it .
Then Karol had a massive run and eventually landed a fish of 52lb
all in all a cracking 7 hr trip which was over all too soon .

  • 01/07/2012 Fishing Report by carl porter on Hard Labour (Wallasea Island, Essex)

1 Jul 2012 by carl porter

    Report on-board Hard Labour

With a poor forecast this weekend, there was no chance of venturing far offshore, so fishing was restricted to the inshore marks. Saturday saw wind speeds gusting to 30 forcing us to try and find some protection from the lee of the land. Fishing was slow to say the least, but as the tide turned and wind and tide were in the same direction it allowed a bit of scope for different marks.

With a move to different grounds the fish started to play ball, not fast and furious but enough to keep the rod tips nodding. Mid size hounds were the order of the day up to 6 lb ish, with a good spread of schoolie bass and a few roker too. Considering the conditions, not too bad a days fishing.

Sundays forecast looked a bit more promising, but after poking our nose out, it was obvious that offshore was again going to be unfishable. Again we had to wait for the tide to turn, allowing the seas to calm a little and the boat to lay with the tide.

Once the tide got a bit of oomph in it, the hounds made an apperance again. Fish in the 4lb to 6lb range were coming on fast, with double and triple hook ups from time to time. Then one rod screamed off as a better fish grabbed the bait. After a good scrap a nice hound hit the deck weighing in around 12 to 13lb mark. Not long after this another screamer and another fish of the same stamp. By the end of the day, twenty plus hounds were landed with five fish over 10lb all going back to fight another day. The rest of the days catch was made up of schoolies, with a couple of sizeable fish in amongst them.

What was a poor weekend weather wise, turned out ok all things considered
