4 Dec 2011. Big thanks to Brent Pope and friends for the herring fishing session today. Guests include Jon and Ben Morton ,Will Ridgwell,Bob Panrucker, and Paul from Langham Glass who insisted on no roes in his herring! Wind picked up despite the forcast, small matter of net parting well done to the lads for coping with the manic pull in. Most enjoyable day always a pleasure to see you guys. Many thanks. Jon.

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Sat 3 Dec . Strong South Wests pushed us inside under Corton Cliffs. Day started well with numerous whitting few dogfish and odd dab. Moved further inshore after few hours not before having trouble with wire rope brought up on the anchor . Plagued with weed for about haf hour but soon went leaving a constant flow of whitting coming in all day. Few keepers not many ,afraid the cod were just not playing ball today! Big thanks to Richard Hodds for booking the boat along with guests John Kippen,Geof Bishop,Guy Bailey who caught his first fish and several others, welcome to the club Guy! Also Len Andrews and Doug Sturman and Mark Colley with son Josh first timers on High Flyer, thanks lads hope you enjoyed it.

  • 04/12/2011 Fishing Report by Tony Harrison on Optimist (Portishead, Somerset)

4 Dec 2011 by Tony Harrison

    Report on-board Optimist

Over the past week the whiting have been almost an epidemic, snaffling even the biggest baits intended for cod. Many of them are a good size, and have been taken for the pot.

Still some good sized thornbacks being boated, and a few codling although I suspect the cod are still chasing the abundant sprats in the upper channel. The sport will get better soon as the sprats thin out.

Whole squid seems to have the edge bait-wise, but by the time you read these words things may have changed, but that's fishing!

  • 04/12/2011 Fishing Report by Ash Bailey on Optimist (Portishead, Somerset)

4 Dec 2011 by Ash Bailey

    Report on-board Optimist

Another good day out on the Optimist; the fishing was hard going but the company was good! The coffee, bacon butties and pasties kept coming!

Fish of the day, Martin "Fat Bloke" Donovan's Thornack Ray of 10 lb 14 oz, another Thorny of 8 lb was also boated. Both released. Plenty of pan sized whiting thoughout the day, and a couple of coldling up to 4 lb or so.

Nice day out, great company on lumpy seas! See you all again soon.

    Nov 2011 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The wrecking trips of late have been exceptional here at Whitby ( when we've managed to get off for the weather !! ) Plenty of good size cod to be taken. All the cod taken on the shads with the water being as clear as I've ever seen it in November for years. Hopefully away in the morning again as we have a small window in the weather.
Pictured is Jim Arthur from Darwin in Blackburn with a couple of his better fish of the day.
