Seems a long time since my last update.... A good few days at sea, some very good, some good, some average. Cod starting to show in numbers, but more some days than others. Still plenty of Thornbacks around, and the Lesser Spotted Dogs are hanging around this Autumn to fill the slow bits....

Good to see six-year-old Leia Griffiths catch a Thornback on Saturday, see the photo on this site. I bet that grin takes a while to wear off! -

Report on-board Valkyrie 6/8
We had a trip out with Glen targeting rays and bass in a lucky break in the winds yesterday.
View Boats Page
the first session at the bass was unproductive with just a single whiting landed and a few bass either dropped or missed. as the tide died we put the anchor down to target some blondes. we managed 6 in 1.5 hours upto 26lb along with some huss to low double figures and conger to 20lb and the ever present doggies.
as the tide picked up we went back on the drift and after a few moves we found some feeding bass and ended up with around 20 with a best of 11lb 11oz we also dropped a few decent ones with the average size of the fish landed at over 5lb. A great day on a top boat with a hard working skipper in decent winter weather. -

Report on-board Valkyrie 6/8
Fished on Valkyrie with a group of regulars from Oxfordshire on a bass trip. after a spell at anchor catching blonde rays upto 26lb, huss to 10lb, conger to 20lb and a few dogs we were on the drift for the bass. after a bit of searching we found some fish with most being over 5lb. we had to move a few times to keep on the fish but Glen worked hard to track them down and we did our best to hook them. the biggest of the day went 11lb 11oz and we had several around 9lb with a few good fish lost as well.

Cracking day today with Dave, Mick and Mitch on their 5th trip onboard Amino.

Despite a slow start in the first couple of hours with only a few small Codling and some nice Whiting to 1lb+, things picked up and more fish started to arrive.
Then Mick had a small bite just after slack water and bent into a good fish-resulting in a cracking 13lb Cod, the first double of the season on Amino and a personal best for Mick!
The chaps ended up with 22 Codling (mainly in the 2-3lb bracket) and plenty of Whiting. Well fished chaps! Cheers! :-) -

NOVEMBER 2011 - WRECKING TRIP - the first three wrecks of the day produced a few pollack during the easing tide and over the slack water period. Then a move to a big wreck as the tide was running produced a hectic two and half hour spell were the action was fast and furious with bass and pollack. The anglers were using 15Ib class tackle with flying collar or Portland Rigs and a variety of lures. On the day a salmon coloured shad was very successful but to be fair when the fish were in their feeding frenzy all manner of lures were used and proved irresistable to the bass and pollack.Pictured is John Bickford from Bristol with his 7Ib 8oz Bass.
