    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Not much change in the catches this weekend, the strong winds gave us a battering saturday 26th Nov on the banks, plenty of dabs along with the prolific whitting this year. Done some shrimp trawling for a change of bait ended up with sprats! Dont even ask! .With all this bait around we had better up our game to catch those few cod scattered about .

    Report on-board Supanova II

Well as November is coming to a close the first sustained SW gale force winds are imminent.

The fishing throughout November was fantastic, The first weekend of the Month saw the Bass fishing go mental on the arrival of the Sprats. This was a very late showing but it should mean the fish stay around into the New Year! which will be a nice added bonus.

Believe it or not we have still been catching plenty of Bream!!! Boats that braved the weather this weekend (26th Nov) were still reporting decent Bream amongst their catches! Flatfish seem to still be around on the shambles bank ONLY 40 MINUTE JOURNEY FROM WEYMOUTH! the fish however have gone small but still a nice alternative from the Bass and Bream. We will be making a few trips to the mid channel wrecks over the next couple of weeks to see what is lurking! Hopefully with the amount of Sprat around we should encounter some Bass and Pollack. Watch this space. As this cold snap takes hold our inshore Whiting catches should go from strength to strength with specimens up to 4lb not uncommon, throw in the odd decent Cod like this 18lb'er caught by Tony Browne from Bristol then we are in for a good run up to Christmas.

Thanks again for the continued support!

    Tight lines,

    Lyle

  • 21/11/2011 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

21 Nov 2011 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

The winter uptide festival is underway and we managed a day at sea with a couple of regular lads who had been looking forward the day for months.
We got under the bridge at 8am and headed towards one of Whitby's popular uptiding marks just a couple of miles up the coast off sandsend.
The lads had bought a mate with them so we had three anglers fishing the competition with us today, they had some quality bait with them too, fresh lug, frozen black lug, mussel, squid, cart and a few peelers.
It paid off for the lads having all that good bait, within minutes af settling into anchor everyone was getting bites and few codlings starting coming over the gunnels.
About an hour in, one of the lads John said he'd hooked soemthing a bit better, and seeing as it was staying deep it looked a bit better stamp of fish, when we got it in the hook just slipped out its mouth, so lucky there! it took the scales round to about 7 1/2lb which is nice fish by any standards. The fishing continued to be quite good until the tide eased and the fish went right off the feed. We upped anchor and moved to another mark which we hoped might have a bit of tide running but it was quiet so we moved back to the other mark for the start of the tide, the fish seemed slow coming back on but they did, and one of the lads managed around another 6 fish before home time. Andy cod-catcher Stonehouse managed around a dozen fish for the day all between 2 and 5lb, the other lads managed around half a dozen fish each too upto 6lbas well as the 7lber.
Back at the weigh-in we were delighted to learn that John had the heaviest cod of the day making him £50 for his efforts, also being a new uptide PB for him.
Pictured is John with his daily winning fish.

  • 19/11/2011 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

19 Nov 2011 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

With a settled spell recently and the water clarity good, the lads wanted to have a crack at the wreck and ground fishing today. The tide was fairly small so was perfect, the only thing against us would be the southerly wind which threatened to push us along a bit too fast on the ebb tide in the afternoon.
Well, 1st stop was a wreck at only 3 miles, we hit a ball of fish taking a few off it and losing a few, all nice conditioned cod, all around the 5lb mark.
the mark slowed off so we moved around taking the odd fish until we arrived on the 8 mile ground. Moving between marks we passsed over a huge feed mark, I went around it & set up the drift for the lads - Bingo! all rods straight into fish! some of the lads pulling in 2 or 3 fish on the same rig, we continued to fish this mark until the tide eased off and it went off the feed. we moved around trying a few more marks but the fish were a bit ellusive. As the ebb got away the drift increased even though we tried more marks it was proving hard to nail a few fish. Finally it was home time, and the lads had had a good day considering the time of year and conditions, between the five of them they managed 4 boxes of quality fish, Cod to 8lb, Ling to 14lb, with another slightly lighter ling of 11lb but still in double figures.
Pictured are the lads with some of their catch

    Report on-board White Maiden II

From my Fishy Grapevine 2011 - can also found at http://sea-fishing.net

    Weekending 19th November 2011

Saturday 19th November the Tony Lavington crew had to put up with a swell and a sloppy sea that persisted throughout the day. One or two crew struggled with the continuous motion and to be fair it was not ideal but the fishing is definitely becoming very good. Tony can be seen with his best Cod at a shade over 20lb to add to another nice Cod he caught earlier in the same tide. Pictured below on the right is Mike with two handy Cod, Tony again and Phil showing his Bass. Other notable fish was a reasonable Thornback, a good Whiting and a 20lb Conger plus some lead cable! The Pout and Dogs were there too, hanging onto the smaller hooks.
