    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Cracking weather again this day for a great team of lads from the Leeds area. The fishing was pretty quiet on the morning so we pushed off to some wrecks 20 miles off and found good fishing for 3 or 4 hours. Best fish of the day was a lovely cod of 16lb 5oz. Had he caught this one a couple of weeks ago he would have won £1000.00 in the Spring Competition!! Unlucky !! Pictured is Will Thompson from Menston nr Leeds with his fish of 16lb 5oz., this being the heaviest cod caught this year from Whitby on a 10 hour trip.

The Hounds are here Big Time !
Peeler crab will sort out the big mummas, with squid a close second.
The fishing has been great yet again from Ramsgate with lots of good hounds showing along with superb skate and brilliant Bass.
Although the northerly winds have slowed down the crab peel its still the number one bait atm.

    Keep it Tight,
    Dave.

  • 30/04/2011 Fishing Report by Aaron Smith on Bad Boyz VI (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

30 Apr 2011 by Aaron Smith

    Report on-board Bad Boyz VI

    APRIL -
With some fantastic weather and some not so good to finish the month off saw us getting a variety of trips out through the month with some brilliant results from numorous good sized Rays, Spurdog, Tope, Bullhuss, Codling and Pollack with a few PB's thrown in.

The last few days of april has seen Northeasterly winds up to 30mph with gusts over 45mph.

    April 29th,
With NE 14-20knott winds the days fishing was to be shellterd around the south side of the island around south stack and as far as Rhosneiger with main targets to be Pollack, Colies, Codling, Wrasse and some possible Mackeral off the many inshore reefs and within 2 hours of drifting every target was acounted for with the edition of some beautifully marked Cukoo and Corkwing wrasse.
With the wind picking up as the day went on the plan chaged from targetting the many species of rays from the many banks off Abberfraw to ' trying ' to shellter from the wind under Trearddur bay.
As soon as the anchor had hit the bottom we had fish comming over the gunnels, With plenty of the usual Dogies, Dabs, Codling, Whitting, Small Huss and a couple larger but not qutie touching the double figure mark, After a couple of hours and a nice few bowls of Hotpot we decided to try a few more drifts over the reefs on the way home.
With some lovely Wrasse being caught and a few Pollack the last drop of the day was upon us once again and not to be dissapointment for a regular Dave who caught a nice codling just over 5lb mark.

    April 30th
NE/E 20-30mph and gusts to 40mph threw out the plans for Offshore Tope fishing but with the crew that booked being another regular party they decided to try there look with 8 hours under the headland at Church bay, With a bit of a bumpy ride to get there we found shelter with flat calm sea's, loads of bait, plenty of food and plenty of fish to keep us busy all through the day.
With the majority of fish being Dogs, Dabs, Huss and Codling with Pollack, Coalies and Plaice coming up every so often, After the 7 hours of fishing we had almost a dozen or so Codling around the 3-4lb and once again the last drop of the day producing a lovely 2lb 7oz plaice ( pictured ).
With the wind behind us we set on our way back to holyhead only to be met by the challange of gettin back onto the marina with 40knots of wind pushing us off, Luckily our good friend Steve off a local pleasure fishing the Louise Clare was on hand to get a rope on for us ( Many Thanks Steve).

Sunday 1st was cancelled with it being a fishing club only wanting to fish the famous Holyhead Deeps but as i was hopeing to have a day off it was interupted by a very busy day for many of the lifeboats around the island especially with it being a bank holiday Trearddur bay accounted for 4 of the incedents which kept me busy for most of the day.

Sun, Sea, Fish and Wind another lovely weekend off the north Wales coastline.

Well what can i say about Dave Elliott ?

Top skipper, courteous and simply the best at what he does.

Out on Friday with him.......lots of medium codling about, mix of medium sized pollack and a sprinkling of good sized conger. One things for sure , he tries and tries.....takes it personally if his anglers don't catch fish; now thats gotta be good.

All my personal bests have come on Ocean Warrior 3. Thoroughly recommend him to anyone and reasonable rates to boot. Top skipper. You never caught a decent conger or cod.......Speak to Dave, he'll soon put you straight. Tight lies.

    Nick Coster.

  • 04/2011 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Apr 2011 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

Traditionally April is renowned for showers and cold blustery weather, however the last few weeks for much of the UK has been treated to some very warm and sunny spells. For those that gauge the weather with sun versus rain I’m guessing it’s been all smiles of late.

Afloat on Anglesey though, the latter half of April including the Easter period has been a mixture of fairly settled weather along with bursts of strong winds. Un deterred we have set sail on most days and been rewarded with some great fishing, banter and the occasional spot of sunburn.
    .
In shore drifting has again seen an increase in the numbers of pollack, coalies and codling coming to the boat. Whereas the vast majority of the fish are not really anything to write home about, the occasional one has topped the 4 to 5lb mark. Not monsters, but acceptable light tackle targets in relatively shallow water. Ballan wrasse are becoming more frequent as the days go by, hopefully the numbers will continue to improve and sizes grow as the year continues.

Spotted and Thornback ray numbers are on the increase, normally they are more prolific a little later in the year but 2011 has started extremely well, depending where we go we appear to be seeing a few rays most trips.

Pictured here is Brian from Warrington Sea Anglers, now the spotted ray the big fella is holding weighed a mere 2lb 2oz. But! It was still the first spotted ray this long established club had recorded. Given that Brian was also a new member on only his second boat outing a smile and photograph was certainly called for. You can read a couple reviews from 2 Warrington club members on this day via the My Way CBUK page..

Despite the neap tides this past week our deep water escapades have been limited owing to a combination of strong winds and also very early LW slacks. On the days we have ventured offshore, we have been fortunate to enjoy plenty double figure shark action. The vast majority of the ‘sharks’ though during these few trips have been bull huss, numerous beasts of the deep well into double figures, along with a few spurdog and also a few small pack tope, the biggest this time around estimated at only 10lb.

Our trip on 29th April 2011 was a get away from the Royal Wedding Fishathon ….. or was it ….. visit our webiste for more information.
    .
Sadly the 25mph ENE winds on the forecast for the next few days will see My Way remain firmly tied up to the pontoons – ready to get straight back to it when the winds ease as the week progresses!

  • 28/04/2011 Fishing Report by Colin Penny on Flamer IV (Weymouth, Dorset)

28 Apr 2011 by Colin Penny

    Report on-board Flamer IV

APRIL 2011 - FLAMER IV REPORT - "WHAT A MONTH" as excellent fish were caught throughout the month although the majority of April's trips were spent concentrating on Plaice and Turbot.Paul Milkins landed the biggest plaice weighing 6Ib 2oz closely followed by Denise Young with a 5Ib 12oz plaice.Top of the impressive Turbot catches was Trevor Lockyer with 24Ib 8oz monster then Russell Salmon with his 23 pounder.Cod started to feature inshore and on the offshore wrecks.Peter Gordon landed a 20 pounder on the mussell beds and David Bruce caught a 23Ib Cod while drifting a wreck with mackerel fillet bait.Pollack and Ling were caught on the wrecks. The inshore reef/bank fishing at anchor produced some good action with good size spurdogs, smooth hounds and rays.27 different species have been caught on Flamer IV so far in 2011.
With so many good fish caught it was a hard job choosing the Fish of the Month award. However Flamer IV Fish of the Month was awarded to Russell Salmon for his 23Ib Turbot(pictured). You may ask why Trevor Lockyer did not win it with his 24Ib 8oz Turbot, well Trevor won January Fish of the Month and had already qualified for the 2011 winners competition.
