A busy few days with 5 trips in 5 days. Really lucky to get such good weather and the fish have played too!
Lots of fish for the individuals day Thursday then on Friday, Peters crew from an East London pub turned up for a corporate day. Along with the food & drink they caught some nice Thornies and Hounds!
On Saturday it was back out to the wrecks with Steves crew from Sheppey and after a difficult start with the first 3 wrecks being quiet we made up for it with a good catch of Cod from the last one Phew!!
Sunday brought some wind so Andys crew were disappointed we couldnt get to the wrecks but were happy with the excellent inshore fishing with the Thornies & Hounds we managed to find.
Monday began with a fine morning so we headed north where we had fish all day with Skate, Bass, Whiting, Codling and some fine Dabs, Mel managed a nice Smoothound to finish the day.

    What a fantastic day out.

We were a bit early for our trip, but this was no problem to our skipper Stuart. We left as dawn was breaking and cruised for about 45 minutes before reaching our spot. Stuart was friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable as he patiently explained the required techniques for fishing. Most of us were complete novices so we appreciated the input. It only took about 30 minutes for the fish to start biting. My son Mark hooked his first ever dogfish and was elated. Not long after my twelve year old daughter got a large skate, she struggled to hold it for the photo! After that all of us hooked a variety of species and sizes. Whether you are an experienced angler or total newcomers like us I can't recommend this charter highly enough. We all had a fun and memorable day.

    Many thanks Stuart.

Lundy Island Fishing Trip, Saturday 23rd April

Fabulous weather, virtually no wind, sunny and warm all day.
On way to Lundy Island stopped at a rough ground mark approximately eight miles out of Ilfracombe to try our luck fishing for Spur Dog’s and Bull Huss. We used Herring, Mackerel, and Squid in baits, these were sometimes cocktailed. Very successful mark, as we caught many Spur dogs up to 16lb and several Bull Huss. We fished the best of the tide for an hour or so, then moved swiftly on down to Lundy Island.
The weather was like a summers day getting very warm (sun burn in April) lol! A different style of fishing as we use feathers some of the other anglers used baited feathers. After a few minutes of setting up the drift, caught several small Pollock most returned to fight another day. Tried further up the island again and after several different drifts caught lots of small Pollock again and some very nice Coal fish and then moved again further up the island where we added Ballen Wrasse and the first lot of Mackerel for this season to the species list, all mature fish; one of the mackerel actually topped the one lb mark!
We all had an absolutely superb day’s fishing, very comfortable, clean and quick boat. The skipper John was helpful, knowledgeable and very patient with the less experienced anglers.
Species for trip, Dog fish, Bull Huss, Spur dog, Coal Fish, Mackerel, Pollock and Ballen Wrasse.

    Report on-board Seren y Mor

Fished again today with the Danglers SAC from Milford Haven, conditions not great to start with a South Easterly 5 and rain giving a wet, lumpy ride to our first mark, the rain eased by lunch time but the wind continued to gust all day. We decided to see if the Smoothounds had arrived with the boys bringing plenty of crab. First into the fish was Jason Dennis quickly followed by Dave Frampton, these two fished hard throughout the day for top rod with Jason coming out on top with the biggest Hound at 13lb 2oz and most Hounds with 13. Ian Pratt took another nice Hound at 13lb and after a slow start Mike Steer took some nice fish to 11lb 4oz and a Blonde Ray of 10lb 8oz. Biggest fish of the day went to Clive Jones with a Conger of 18lb. with over 50 Hounds landed the signs are looking good for the Smoothound season.
