    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Quite a hard day today had a few hours slot before the weather would beat us so headed out to hopefully have a little feather odd bass maybe unfortunately not the case. Extremely dirty water compleat waste of time and fuel the previous big tides had done some damage out there mud everywhere. Headed back inside to a day of whiting few small smoothies only one thornback today pictured here with Bernard nice fish of about 8 lb. Bit of a early home today all other boats had left us and it just died! Thanks to everyone today was enjoyable but hard work. Cheers Jon (High Flyer 2)

9 Aug 2019 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The last few trips for the guys on the Shy-Torque have been anything but easy. Mainly due to the Spring tides. At times the best of the fishing probably coming from the shallow water in 10 fathom on the neap tides.

One or two better fish starting to show now though. Yesterdays trip was steady again with the majority of fish this time coming from a wreck on the 9 mile. The heaviest fish of the day falling to Mike Edge. A nice ling of 12 lb 3 oz.

A lot of throw back (undersized) codling on every trip too at the moment, which bodes well for the fishing for next year when they will all be a takeable size.

Some rubbish weather hitting us at present for a couple of days, so time for a few jobs ashore and on the boat.

Room next week on a couple of days.

Cheers and tight lines as ever

  • 01/08/2019 Fishing Report by Shaun Pedley on Our Joe (Paignton, Devon)

1 Aug 2019 by Shaun Pedley

    Report on-board Our Joe

July’s Fishing Report aboard OUR JOE-L

Well it’s curtailing been a challenging month for me as charter skipper, we have had some good days of the wrecks catching Cod, Pollock and Ling into double figures but a good days drifting is still hit and miss. Anchoring has been good for congers up to 60lb and we’ve started fishing for them on lighter rods too with some brilliant catches up to 50lb, bream are starting to arrive her now too but not big just yet.

On one memorable occasion (Memorable for the wrong and right reason at the same time) we headed out to one of my favourite wrecks on a flat calm day. After 3 drifts we had nothing, not even a bite or a sign on the sounder. The only reason I stayed on that one after the first drift was because I knew she ‘normally’ holds some fish on a quiet day. At the end of the 3rd drift we had more than one reason to move. When the anglers were winding up one line started to shoot under the boat! Once he realised it was fish someone asked if this was where we had the Tope biting pollock in half a couple of weeks ago? I told them we was miles away so it could be something completely different. On saying that I heard something Jump out the water behind me, on turning around expecting a dolphin I saw an amazing sight of a Thresher Shark out the water and land in his back about 20-30 meters from the boat. He was about 8 foot long plus the tail at an educated guess and soon broke the 20lb line after landing and swimming away. (If only we had some bait aboard we would have had some fun for sure!) couple of the lads had started fishing on feathers and had nothing so I knew there was nothing in the area due to this Thresher and it was time to move on. Such a shame but the lads weren’t keen on sharking so we moved on.
(So you could say we’ve had a Thresher Shark Hoked but I won’t claim that one!)

The Skerries Bank has produced some brilliant fish recently compared to past years with more Plaice over 2-2.5lb than before. (Dave Saunders on Kelly’s Hero Brixham had one over 4lb I believe too! ) seeing some small Turbot caught several times this year too!

I have to say, even though the fishing in the south coast of Devon isn’t producing the Cod and Pollock were used to, having the experienced anglers we get aboard Our Joe-L we have just had to change the days plan slightly to enjoy the day from species hunting to big conger days, Always a great laugh aboard with some top banter being chucked around and plenty of tea and coffee.

  • 08/2019 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Aug 2019 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

We are now just 11 weeks away from starting our winter season in our home city of Liverpool on the mighty Mersey.

From the end of October to mid November we mostly try to target the off shore wrecks up to 60 miles out, the weather plays a massive factor for these trips.

If we get lucky enough to get out Wrecking you can catch Pollack, Cod and Ling most are 3lb to 6lb with the odd double figure fish every now and again.

If the weather is not so good we can fish the mighty Mersey as a back up, targeting Thornback Rays up to 60+ in a day, Cod in to double figures, but most are 3lb to 5lb, Whiting, Dabs and odd Conger.

From mid November to the end of February we fish the sheltered waters of the mighty Mersey, targeting Cod in to double figures but most are 3lb to 5lb, Whiting and Dabs.

Every season is different and the biggest issue when fishing a tidal estuary is too much fresh water can be a bad thing for sea fish.

We have over 2000 packs of top quality frozen black lug and 96 x 1lb frozen boxes of calamari squid in storage, this is only available to anglers fishing onboard Size Matters.

We also have a full range of top quality Shimano fishing tackle available to use free of charge.

If you would like to join us, check out our calendar, check out our Facebook page, give us a call or email.

    Thanks
