Report on-board TopCat Charters
We had the pleasure of having Skerry Bell's Skipper, Roger onboard TopCat Charters today. Roger and his party wanted something a bit different, target some Turbot, celebrate his Birthday, take a day off skippering and relaxing on TopCat Charters. We caught Turbot, Plaice, Bass, DogFish, Mackerel, SandEels and Pouting. The weather was against us, it was a bit bumpy but the sun was out and the fish was fighting.

Fishing Report by Sam Cumming
on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)
Jul 2019 by Sam Cumming
Report on-board Silver Spray II
Where to start with the last 4 weeks? It seems like we have done so many different things, this variety is one of the strengths of fishing from Poole. We will start inshore and the arrival of the mackerel in better numbers seems to have encouraged the rays to come on a bit stronger. Undulates and blondes being the main target with a few other spotties and thornbacks dotted about. One short evening trip saw us land so many undulates we broke the golden rule and moved off the fish, only to be rewarded with even more rays at the next mark. Many of the inshore marks for rays are covered in tiny bream at the moment so you should check your baits frequently as often anglers are just left with skin on the hook after the bream have pecked all the meat off it. Good for the future stocks of one of our main species. On the drift the plaice fishing has been awesome with fish coming to the net regularly to the 3lb plus mark, this type of fishing should continue until October so plenty of time to get booked on if you fancy a crack at them. Last week we had such a frantic day that we fished until we ran out of bait. The plaice fed pretty the whole day long, even when we were drifting at 2 knots. Great fun on the spinning rods and good to see the lads putting so many back for future trips. Bass fishing continues to show signs of improvement this year with plenty of fish still taking the lures on the banks, again good fun on lighter tackle when accompanied with a couple of hours fishing at anchor for the tope with the heavy stuff. Freelining and float fishing has also started well with Tony Methvan landing only his second ever bass at just over 8lb, we will be doing more on the floats and freeline in the coming weeks. The shark fishing is under way for this year and we have a few spaces on trips starting in early August, all our encounters so far have come on tope or conger gear so you’re never guaranteed to get the fish the surface. Hopefully we can hook into one on suitable tackle soon. Tight Lines for the coming weeks!!!

Nipped out today with Martin Bishop started off with frozen mackerel had first turbot , Martin managed to hook into some fresh mackerel so rebaited resulting in first tope for me of 25lb, . Martin got another turbot follwed by second tope that ran accross all the lines eventually boated 36lb lovely female. Ended up on a wreck for codling, few small pollock and pouting. With the summer festival and a very nice spell of settled weather this is the first chance I've had really.
The competition went really well with only 4 days being lost due to the weather. The fishing was quite hard at times but we did have some good results. The anglers on the Shy - Torque III taking more daily prizes than any other entrant again which was good. Well done to all those! A big thank you to everyone who joined the boat to have a go. Hopefully see you again soon.
We didn't secure any of the top prizes in the event but I reckon we had a couple of potentials on and lost them. Nigel Hall who won the spring competition with us had a really strong fish on on the 3rd day but didn't see it!
I'd like to thank all our sponsors for this years competition and hope they will be on board with us next year too. Always a huge help to us.
Also, I' like to congratulate my mate John Wilford on landing the best fish of the competition on his boat. Well done mate. Here's to a few more for you hopefully!!
The September competition is the next one here at Whitby which starts on the 7th Sept and runs for a fortnight to the 22nd Sept. Come and have a go in that one if you fancy it. Still some spaces left.
First prize is a very nice £1000.00 in cash!!
One of our many daily prize winning fish pictured inset.
Cheers for now and tight lines as ever and enjoy this cracking weather!!

Report on-board Blueye 2
Had a trip up north this weekend which was hampered by fast drifts for most of the trip with wind and tide but it didn't stop us catching a few fish, cod to 8-9lb along with ling around the same size, ended Saturdays trip with around 30 fish all of which were cod around 3-5lb and a couple ling amongst them. Sundays trip started off fantastic with the weather and by lunchtime we had around 40 maybe 45 fish with some cracking cod in amongst them, then the wind come pushing us along at over 2kts, spoilt what was destined to be a good day. 2 party's full of cracking folk and two great days all the same, thanks for coming guys.

Big tides this weekend every fish well deserved bit lumpy on Sat with northerly winds straight against tide, managed small bass rest was crappy whiting few sandeels odd mackerel ect, quite a hard day. Sunday better with odd small smoothound, thornback ray caught by Ayush from Leicester pictured here first time on the Flyer. He also lost another decent skate and landed a silver eel nice to see. I caught small codling dont ask i dont know where that came from, rest were just whiting most of the day, Big thanks to the Rugby lads and also Atul and crew from Leicester i appreciate the long journey you guys make pity fishing was hard. Hopefully next time easier tides. All the best. Jon (High flyer 2)

As per last year,we are now starting to rack up the cancelled bookings due to strong winds and the consequent rough seas...
We are landing plenty of species when we find the clear water...the size and numbers of cod and haddock are increasing, whiting are plentiful(for flappers),mackerel, herring, launce, dab, grey & red &tub gurnard, spurs, huss, tope, pollack, pouting, coalfish, thornback ray and (finally!) common skate.
The larger of the skate had 4 hooks in it....the guy who landed it,richard had 2 hooks in it(from the same day) and an unknown hook ...it shows that they aren't put off feeding by being hooked and when feeding, they don't travel far away!
4th july….huss to 14lb / spurs to 16.5lb
5th july…..9 huss(16lb)
6th july….3 huss (15lb)
7th july …****JACKPOT DAY****….49 Spurs(all doubles) (best at 19.5lb/20/20.25/20.5/21/21lb) with 5 others lost and a 2x17lb spur hookup + 3 huss to 9lb
9th july….7 spurs to 16.5lb
14th july….2 common skate(171lb & 193lb) (8 hook-ups)
15th july...1 huss at 19.5lb(best yet!)
19th july...spurs to 16.5lb.small huss, thornback (4.5lb) 2 x 33lb tope
