2017 was another awesome season. Tope arrived early May, and stayed until second week of July. During that period we landed over 250 Tope, the largest being 63lbs caught by an angler from Merthyr. Several days caught 20+ Tope. Bass fishing was once again excellent. See gallery - largest fish caught by Duncan from Cardiff - 9 and a half lbs. During the season we caught good numbers of Pollock, Coal fish, Skate, Wrass, and several other species.
Looking forward to the new year, new season approaching.. new boat. Sold the old Ebony May at the end of the last season, and replaced her with a new Ebony May.. a 10 metre cougar catamaran. Purpose built, toilet, under cover seating with twin 300 horse power outboard engines, giving a top speed of 42 knots. Cruising speed 25 knots. This year we will be targeting Lundy and mid channel wrecks for Pollock and other species. We will also be doing Shark trips, targeting Celtic deeps and north of Lundy for Porbeagle and Blue Sharks. A break in the weather meant that we managed to get out mid channel wrecking 4 days in a row.
Glorious weather all days and accompanied by lots of dolphins which is always great to see.
Again wrecking proved to be very good with lots of prime pollock being caught every day, plenty of double figurerd fish around up to the high teens.
We also managed a lovely specimen grey gurnard of 1lb 8oz along with ling, our first cod of the year, pouting, whiting and some bass. (Returned alive quickly)
This fine fishing should be set to continue for the next month or so.
Top lures over the 4 days were the skerries Sandeel by Sidewinder.

Saturday 17th February, We had a 6hr uptide trip today fishing was little slow until the tide started to run and bought the codling on, A lot of under size were catching which were returned alive, before a few decent fish starting to show around 4lb, Baits today cart, black lug, mussle and squid,

Hi out for a couple of days over the weekend and Monday very large tides but plenty of good whiting about some to a pound and a half with bull Huss to 12 lbs water a bit to cloudy with big tides for lures for pollack and COALFISH. The whiting were full of sand eels which is a good sign of prospects for wreck fishing once weather and tides reduce. Book early to take advantage of our good rates to get a trip with me. Cheers ROY

Highlight of the month so far has been the arrival of the spur dogs in good numbers. Even on the bigger tides when we can only head offshore to target them a couple of hours either side of slack water the fishing has been full on. The best rig to use is a simple 5 foot flowing trace made of about 80lb mono and a 4/0 circle hook baited with mackerel, sandeel and/or squid. Biggest so far has gone 22lb 8oz but I'm hoping there will be bigger to come in March. Inshore things are quietening down a touch with plenty of whiting left but mostly small fish and some rays dotted around on certain marks. Over the next week, weather permitting, we shall do our first wreck trips out in the Channel to target the big spring pollock. Alderney and Cherbourg trips are filling up fast so drop me an email at info@silverspraycharters.com if you would like a list of remaining dates.

Had cancelled trip Sunday 18 February but still went out with 1 angler hit the ground and had a good stamp of cod round 8 lb mark jamie keeping 16 keepers to his self and lot coddling returned back
