    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Sat 3rd Feb 2018, big tides today fishing was hard! Had to stay inshore, lots of weed making baits covered. Bit testing to say the least but managed with the usual whiting and 4 codling only. The strange thing was 3 codling all 43cm exactly! Spooky. Picture of Richard (Left) and the two Chris,s first timers on codling. . Big thanks to everyone yesterday especially those driving couple hours its much appreciated you making the effort. Looking forward to the next one, Cheers Jon (High Flyer 2)

  • 04/02/2018 Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

4 Feb 2018 by Malcolm Collins

    Report on-board Just Mary

Hi All, disappointing for January with a lack of opportunities to get out and try for Cod and Whiting plus Conger and Rays so we now get closer to the time of the year when we 'lay-up' and prepare 'JUST MARY' for a refit and refurbishment. So the time of year approaches when we get out the power tools, get in a new stock of brushes and look for sunny days to repaint the Boat. A few jobs this year to do including a re-caulk of some parts of the deck plus a refurbishment of the cabin roof plus the usual rubbing down and repainting of the hull. The antifouling still remains the last job prior to re-launching. So we will be ashore and busy until May now when the New Season starts and we begin with the Black Bream. Look forward to seeing you all then, thanks, Malc.

    Report on-board Duke IV

As the days are getting longer, spring is coming bringing plenty of fish our way or so we hope. Skate fishing is improving with some good fish showing and we are looking for Spurdog that run through the channel early spring. So far this winter the Cod have been thin on the ground but we are still hoping, should l say praying for some sort of a spring Codling run as we used to get not many years ago. Still plenty of dates available including weekends available so give me a call and come along fishing.

1 Feb 2018 by Lewis hodder

    Report on-board Pegasus

    January report;

Considering the typically awful January weather we had we did rather well nJanuary an managed seven trips, 4 out on the wrecks and 3 on the inshore marks.

The wrecking was very good when conditions were favourable, although we had to go a long way to find the better sized fish we boated lots of good sized hard fighting Pollack up to 16lb 6oz.

Inshore fishing was typical of January, murky water and lots of ravenous whiting up to the 3lb mark, a few Thornback and Undulate Rays the best of which were 10lb 4oz and 16lb 10oz respectively, there have been lots of Bull Huss around on the rougher ground as usual going up to 11lb and strap congers amongst them with the odd bigger Eel the best in January was estimated at 50lb and released at the side of the boat. Sadly we didn't see any cod in January.

Fishing should be more of the same for February but hopefully we will get good weather on some smaller tides to venture out to the offshore reefs and banks in search of a few Spurdogs.

  • 02/2018 Fishing Report by Aaron Smith on Bad Boyz VI (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Feb 2018 by Aaron Smith

    Report on-board Bad Boyz VI

Well that's us all finished on the Mersey, our first season has been much better than expected with 51 trips booked, sailing on 47 of those.
We are heading home a bit early however with the fishing being hard work on the River I'd rather get my anglers on the spurdogs back home.

We've had some good days afloat especially early on in the season with countless rays coming over the rails and nice quantity of Cod.
Our best fish went 14lb is still currently the heaviest Of The season.

We will be back from Liverpool mid October so get your trips booked In if you'd like the reasonable start times, A number of them are already gone!

  • 01/2018 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Jan 2018 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

Over the last set of tides we managed to get out to the wrecks for the first time since November.
The day before I explained to the lads we have had gales up to 60 knots in recent days and if the water is coloured we will struggle to catch. The lads decided they still wanted to go because the weather forecast was so good and it made a nice change from the Mersey.

Sadly when we got to our first wreck there was only about one meter visibility, we tried three wrecks with only half a dozen small Pollack being caught.
I then told the lads we would anchor a wreck on the flood tide to see if that made a difference. The lads caught plenty of Whiting, odd Dogfish and a single Pouting. The lads didn’t skip on bait either they used 24lb of Squid in 3 hours, I had the boat positioned perfect just up tide of the wreck. It was one of them days where nothing was working, you get this on the big jobs sometimes ha ha.

The highlight of the trip was when one of the lads caught a Whiting about 1lb and it spat out a Mantis Shrimp. It’s the first one I have ever seen in UK waters and I didn’t even know we got them in the UK.
So I am claiming the first ever Scouse Mantis Shrimp! Thank god Forest Gump wasn’t onboard ha ha.

The Mersey is tough going for Cod with our best one in the last week going 8lb 6oz, there is still plenty of Whiting, Dabs and the odd Ray showing.

Since I payed out £100 for a Cod over 10lb every group I have had onboard have asked me to do the same for them and being the gentleman that I am I have honoured it.
It’s actually worked out well giving the lads an incentive to change the bait more regular resulting in some better Cod coming out.

So from February 5th to 17th I will be offering £100 to the person who catches the first Cod of the day over 10lb and I am offering £500 to the first person of the day to catch a Cod over 20lb. Only paying out two cash prizes per day, one for a Cod over 10lb and one for a Cod over 20lb. I don’t have to do this because we are 98% fully booked but when the fishing is not at its best my anglers appreciate something to encourage them to fish hard or die trying!!

We are fast approaching the last set of tides on the Mersey for this winter, here are the last few available places for February.

    February
Monday 5th Wrecking 4am sailing 3 places available.
Thursday 8th Mersey 5.30am sailing 1 place available.
Friday 9th Wrecking 7am sailing 1 place available.
Tuesday 13th Mersey 10.30am sailing 1 place available.
Wednesday 14th Mersey 11am sailing 1 place available.

If you would like to book any of the above dates or like more information please contact me.

  • 01/2018 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Jan 2018 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

As im sure you may have gathered by now 2018 has started off well for the blackwater estuary boats. The fishing isn’t exactly ‘on fire’ but it is a vast improvement on what we have seen of late. The rise in temperature has made the thorn-back rays start to move. We seem to get a few decent fish amongst them throughout January and February and so far 2018 hasn’t disappointed with the biggest so far falling to Graham at 15.5lbs.
there have been a few more codling showing too and a better stamp. Many of these fish are fresh in and still taking our baits despite a large influx of sprats and herring. Bites are finicky and easily missed so the key is small baits, keep them fresh by changing regularly and allow bites to develop (sit on your hands a while). There arnt hoards crawling up the lines but our best trip so far is 11 codling and the top rod landing 5 of those. We would usually expect numbers to increase as the bait fish leave and the cod get back on the bottom over the course of the next few weeks so fingers crossed.
Alongside the codling and rays we have seen plenty of whiting at times and some are a decent size (for this area) as well as the odd dab, pouting and even a couple of highly sought after dogfish!
I have plenty of spaces over the coming weeks for individuals and groups, remember we can often get out when others cant due to the shelter offered locally.

  • 28/01/2018 Fishing Report by jon old on High Flyer 2 (Great Yarmouth, Norfolk)

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Coming to the end of the month now, our fishing has been all over the place with bass and skate being caught, totally out the ordinary for us this time of year plus the wind has been extremely fierce at times from every direction you can think of. Have lost quite a number of trips and most that we have done keeping us inshore most of the time. The whiting have been constant making the boat busy at times a god send in some respects but in others a pain grabbing the baits before anything else gets a chance. I must thank everyone who keeps coming out supporting us as it hasnt been brilliant but it seems to be nationwide problem, we have only another month or so and spring will be upon us with doggies and skate then smoothies life will be grand!!! Picture today is of Craig with sunday 28th best inshore codling of 4lb others smaller and returned along with the usual whiting , pouting and odd dab. Was a very windy day but lads done well good banter as usual. Many thanks to Dean for organising all the lads looking forward to next trip.

As we have new vessel working on the new brochure which should be out soon, also should you wish to be added to database for trip info such as places available etc or special trips by text or email please send your details over to be added,( not forwarded to other parties.) Be sure to think about your summer dates especially weekends as they are going, the website up to date and reliable.

Please note for 2018 we are asking you to use our Paypal deposit system of £20 per head( fully refundable on bad weather etc ) as certain people unfortunately let us down constantly , we lose out money wise and you lose a fishing spot you could have had it is getting to the point where local skippers are now trading letdowns names so those individuals will find it difficult to get a charter. Please be aware of that.
