    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

A good days work on a couple of wrecks this last Saturday. Not having to travel too far either which was good. The water clear enough to be catching on the artificials too, which is great for this time of the year.

A nice mixed bag of fish for the group with the best fish falling to Gordon Yates , a lovely Pollock of 10 lb 6 oz.

The lads are pictured inset with some of their catch.

    Tight lines

  • 01/2018 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

    Jan 2018 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

First report of the year will only be a brief one due to all the wind and rain we have had since Christmas which has restricted us to just half a dozen trips. Fishing at anchor is still producing good numbers of whiting up to just over the 3lb mark, slack water being the most productive time with white feathers or hok-eyes the rig of choice. We rounded out 2017 with some more bass both on the drift and at anchor on live pout. It's just catch and release now until July, perhaps the entire year, we shall find out in March after a further review of stock numbers. Last week we managed our first trip to target the spurdogs successfully. Although a large swell running from the southwest kept the blonde rays fairly quiet as the gear was lifted off the bottom frequently, the spurs didn’t disappoint with 5 fish landed all between 17-20lb. There are also some big pollock starting to appear, February can be a good month to try and target that new personal best providing we get the weather. Alderney and Cherbourg trips are filling up fast so drop me an email at info@silverspraycharters.com if you would like a list of remaining dates.

14 Jan 2018 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

This reports a bit late in coming, it covers last friday and sunday.

Fishing has remained fairly good. Friday we got among the fish again boating 60-70 keepers, with lots of chuck backs.

Sunday we had a slow start with a lift in tides i tried a few other spots ive not visited for a while, but with it being slow i moved for the start of the flood with 4 hours of the trip remaining, we didnt have to move again. We took a steady picking of codlings keeping around 40 and returning the smaller ones.

Best baits continue to be a mixture of dirty squid, black lug and cart.

The weather looks to be coming back off the land for next week, we only need 3 to sail folks, so if youre interested give me a call or text on 07977 436903 to confirm your place.

    Tight lines - Rich

    Report on-board Obsession

We managed to get a small window of better weather on Sunday. Although the forecast didn’t do what it said the guys from Shropshire percivered with it and manage to bring some nice Pollock over the rails on some inshore marks. Let’s hope that the weather Gods look favourably over the coming weeks so we can do some catch up. All the best from the Obsession Brixham Team “ Biguns and whoppers “

  • 01/2018 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Jan 2018 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

[This report was written when Size Matters was operating from Plymouth]

If you are interested in fishing from Plymouth this summer then this is well worth a read.

Size Matters will be operating out of Sutton Harbour Plymouth from April 14th until October 14th.
Since Kevin bought Size Matters in March 2016 he has showed his anglers the true potential of the fishing on offer in the English Channel from Plymouth.
Catching Blue Fin Tuna 300lb+, Blue Shark to 130lb, Conger Eels to 90lb, Porbeagle Shark to 65lb, Sunfish to 40lb, Ling to 38lb, Cod to 20lb, Blonde Ray to 20lb, Pollack to 18lb, Undulated Ray to 17lb, Turbot to 9lb, Bass to 8lb 8oz, Coalfish to 8lb, John Dory to 6lb 8oz, Small Eyed Ray to 6lb, Tub Gurnard to 5lb 8oz, Brill to 5lb, Whiting to 3lb 8oz, Garfish to 2lb 8oz and Black Bream to 2lb.
We also caught Red Band fish, Top knot, Pouting, Poor Cod, Ballan Wrasse, Cookcoo Wrasse, Pilchard, Sardine, Herring, Mackerel, Scad, Launce, Spurdog, Bull Huss, Tope, Plaice, Dabs and Dogfish.
You just have to read through our reports on our website from Plymouth to see what the fishing has been like from month to month.

    New for 2018.

Size Matters is now fully coded and insured for 23 hour charters, we have lots of these charters booked in for 2018. Not just wrecking but also sharking. The plan is to fish wrecks 70 to 100 miles from Plymouth, this will open up most of the western approaches fishing in depths of 300ft to 450ft plus. As for the sharking we will be fishing the same area targeting Blues and porbeagles. Hopefully something a bit special mite turn up fishing this far out like a mako, thresher or something totally unexpected.

    Example 23 hour Wrecking trip.
Leave Plymouth at 1am sail for 5 to 6 hours start fishing in daylight for 12 to 14 hours going from wreck to wreck then sail back to Plymouth and arrive at midnight.
    Maximum anglers 10.

    Example 23 hour Sharking trip.
Leave Plymouth at 1am sail for 5 to 6 hours start fishing in daylight for 12 to 14 hours drifting miles and setting up one hell of a chum slick. Then sail back to Plymouth and arrive at midnight. Maximum anglers 6.

Most people know the English Channel is the best place on the planet for big Conger Eels. In recent years I have only had a hand full of anglers who wanted to target them.
This summer we have lots of anglers booked in for some serious Conger fishing. The weather, tide and a bit of luck have to be on your side for these charters if you want to hook a monster Conger Eel.

  • 14/01/2018 Fishing Report by jon old on High Flyer 2 (Great Yarmouth, Norfolk)

14 Jan 2018 by jon old

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Bringing us to date Sunday Jan 14th 2018 it has been awful weather lately winds strong south east lumps the sea up for us here. Have been grabbing odd days w hen we can, most appreciative of people moving about changing days to get around the weather. For those whose trips we have canceled can only apologize but best to be safe we can go another time without any incidents. Back to the fishing, the whiting have thinned out a bit at last giving our baits a chance, unfortunately the sprats are about as well which tends to put the fish up in the water feeding on them but we have a cunning plan which seems to be paying off so getting a few codling a trip. Nothing big but as soon as weather allows we will be trying the deeper marks offshore hopefully one or two bigger fish should come aboard. Few flatties getting about now nobody seems to be keeping any which is great for conservation, also we have total bass ban this year already caught one last week (returned) but i dont expect it to affect our trip bookings as most of the bass go back anyway. We only kept 3 last year out of all the bass caught big well done to all those anglers it is our future stocks . I will still fish our bass marks as we get tope, mackerel, and sandeel there and the bass if they bite can be photographed and returned unharmed no worries. So not fantastic cod fishing at the moment but tickling along everyone knows the score it could be your trip that connects with a decent result , thats fishing. the website is up to date soon as i get home so should be reliable, dont forget bookings already going for weak tides wreck fishing in summer, get your date in if interested to save disappointment. Until then tight lines everyone. Jon (High Flyer 2)
