    Report on-board Mistress

The last three weeks have been a bit manic here at Whitby on Mistress with the grand summer festival.
We've been out as much as we can when weather has allowed and in between, servicing where needed.

The fishing has been up and down, The best fishing on the neap tides, with some lovely fish landed over the comp with us getting quite a few daily placings and we had a nail biting wait to the end of the festival being beaten to first place on the last day!

Still Mistress regular Tony Barret from Doncaster finished up in 2nd place with a cracking shad caught Ling of 18lb 11oz netting him a total £1050!

So with the festival over now until the next one on September business will be running as usual,
    Next available trips:
    Tuesday 25th July - 6 hours - 8 places - £30
    Wednesday 26th July - 10 hours - 4 places - £50
    Thursday 27th July - 10 hours - 9 places - £50

Most Tuesdays are available for a short 6-8 hour trip now with is starting out at 930am

If you're interested in joining us for days fishing, give me a call or text on 07977 436903 (8am-8pm) or email me at seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

    Poole July 2017 Report
The weather has seen some unseasonal highs and lows ranging from record high temperatures to excess rainfall and lightning storms which has affected the fishing dramatically. Mackeral were being caught in reasonable numbers have become very hard to find and we are having to rely on frozen baits as back up, at this time of year we should be catching enough to put some by for the winter months not draw down on our stocks. The wreck fishing has been very poor this month with a few Pollack being caught and hardly any Cod. Now the Bass ban has been lifted allowing an angler to retain 1 fish per day some very good Bass have been caught, Carl Hurren landed a PB Bass of 10lb 2ozs in the Swash Channel on very light spinning tackle whilst Plaice fishing. Ray fishing has continued to be excellent and working in conjunction with the Undulate Ray Project we are now seeing repeat landings of the same fish in the same areas. Further inshore and within the Harbour some very good Plaice fishing has been experienced with up to 50 in one session most are on the small side but for one angler from Romsey fishing on board Mistress Linda using a tiny bit of worm as small Bream were devastating the baits landed a Plaice of 4lb. Along the beaches there are lots of small Bream and Gurnards and as a bonus the 1st Trigger fish has been caught by Martin Bailey near Durley Chine weighing 3lb. One species for the boat this year was a fine Cuckoo Ray caught during a Lymington Club comp the fishing was very hard.

    Report on-board Bad Boyz VI

Well its safe to say this past week the fishing has been nothing but fantastic!!

The wrecks between 25 miles and 40 miles have consistently produced large hauls of Pollack to 14lb 12oz with other fish making up the species count such as Codlin to 5lb, Ling to 11lb 8oz, Coalies to 4lb, Tope to 40lb, Spurdogs to 16lb, Mackeral, Whitting, Pouting, Huss and Dogs.

We've only spent 2 days locally this week which brought some great Wrasse action but little showing on the Pollack side.
Short run to Holyhead Deeps brought a number of Tope and Spurdogs for Tony and Dave to 25lb during a lovely thunder storm before the sun came back out!

So there we have it, 19 days out of 20 so far this month, Sailed today but having to cancel tomorrows trips sucks!

Very limited space left for August if you'd like to get out...

DID YOU KNOW WE'LL BE WORKING FROM LIVERPOOL THIS WINTER UPTIDING FOR COD, WHITTING AND DABS?
Bookings are already been taken, Don't miss out!!

  • 07/2017 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Jul 2017 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

[This report was written when Size Matters was operating from Plymouth]

Just got back from what was planned to be a 5 day Guernsey trip, but Mother Nature had other ideas. The forecast for the 5 days was looking very good, we set off on Monday trying a few new wrecks catching plenty of Pollack to 12lb 8oz, most where 8lb to 10lb with the odd Ling to 10lb. On the Tuesday the plan was to try for Black Bream and what ever else was on offer, the lads caught lots of small bream to 1lb, Huss to 10lb and Gurnard. Then I suggested trying a different mark on the first drift we where into Bream to 2lb+ then from out of know where a thunderstorm hit, there was fork lighting just to the south of us and it rained so hard the lads couldn't fish in it. Bearing in mind they all had hold of carbon rods, so I said to the lads we best get away from this storm. So we headed east away from the storm then as it was clearing we headed back to Guernsey. I would not like to experience getting hit by lightning at sea!! On the Wednesday morning the plan was to go on the banks chasing Turbot and Brill, I got the forecast at 6am and it had totally changed. The only chance to get home was Wednesday or Sunday, I called the lads and told them the news. They didn't fancy getting stuck in Guernsey for an extra two days so we headed back to Plymouth. I said to the lads I am going to try a few wrecks I haven't been to this year so it might fish or it might not.
All I can say is thank god the fish gods where on my side again, the lads totalled 50+ fish Cod to 16lb 8oz, Ling to 15lb and Pollack to 10lb.
It was good to see Cod making an appearance in numbers for the first time this year, the lads returned the smaller ones and also lost 2 big Cod as they got back into the wreck. It's just good to know they are there now in numbers and we can target them as well as the Pollack and Ling. Maybe the Cod are just starting to show and the season is getting later each year, that seems to be the trend with most other species now days.
