Fishing Report by Scott Belbin
on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)
Feb 2017 by Scott Belbin
Report on-board Galloper
Ive not got many trips to report on after having the ‘galloper’ out for a few weeks. She’s undergone a fair overhaul with a precautionary engine reconditioning too. I must admit its been a struggle being trapped on land for so long but hopefully a few missed trips now will pay off over the next few years. I don’t think we’ve missed a great deal to be honest with a combination of cold weather and loads of bait fish such as sprats putting the fish off. I managed to commandeer my dads boat the ‘ Razorbill3’ on a fine day a couple of weeks ago and got one of my parties afloat. The weather was spot on and we even managed to get amongst a few roker. There seems to be a run of decent fish in places at this time of year as ive mentioned before. Graham had two nice double figure fish with the biggest topping out at over 18lbs on dads scales (although I would place it nearer 16lbs to be honest) and a smashing fish any time of year. The ‘Galloper’ now has her engine back in place and she’s looking spanking ready for the season. I have a few spaces coming up in the coming weeks where a raise in temperatures should kick things off for the thorn-backs. Fishing Report by Ross Parham
on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)
Jan 2017 by Ross Parham
Report on-board Spot On!
January has been a tough one with only a few days at sea fishing the mid channel wrecks in search of BIG winter Pollock. (Easterly winds forcing most days cancelled).
View Boats Page
The trips have been very successful with some great prime hard fighting fish being taken and in good numbers too with early finishes to get the 3+ hours of filleting done!
The photos from just the few trips completed in 2017 are showing real promise for another great year on board Spot On.
Bonus fish have included a few bass, lonesome Cod and some large tub gurnards along with a lobster.
The smaller tides will now see us focus slack water on the big Ling which should be around and with the fantastic sport on the Pollock still going strong, with many double figured fish I hope this continues through February and March until we await the arrival of the Cod.
New for 2017 is a 3 boat Brixham Summer Plaice Competition with some great cash prizes and trophies up for grabs. to be held on June 5th & 6th. Please get in touch if interested.
2017 Calendar is now fully up to date and filling fast, so if there is something that suits yourself please get in touch.
Channel Islands trips and Cornwall deep sea adventure trips also with spaces so why not Join Brixham's Premier charter boat on some great trips with great fishing!
The skerries should now be producing BIG blonde rays with the occasional early Plaice so well worth a try if you want to try something different.
Thanks to Boat Sponsor's Top Rigs and Sidewinder Lures for once again given me there support for anther year.
Pictured is a Lobster caught on a Rhubarb & Custard Sidewinder which was carefully returned after photo.
No trips complete in February 2017 to date yet. -

Report on-board Cleveland Princess
This is an update of the last few trips, Saturday 4th was not the best of days bit of ground swell so didnt get out to far only to the south holm but plenty of nice sized Whiting ran back to the stanford channel around 1400 to see if there were a few dabs around this area we only had 4 the Whiting were hitting the baits before the dabs had a chance to,Monday 6th and a much better day so it was out to some ground that we only go to when conditions are good enough as its a bit of a ride some 14 plus miles the back of the cross sands and the dredging area, at this time of the year it is a good bet that Cod come into feed up before spawning but it wasnt to be after 3hrs and not a bite it was back inside a bit to the pickle but much the same in there so another move to outside of the whisler a result 1 dab so over the bank and off corton where the fishing was very good we anchored on the Tick its a mark we use in there as its allways give up some fish and it didnt disapoint plenty of nice Whiting and a few decent dabs,we summed it up that youve got to go and try these areas when conditions are good enough as we might not get another chance for a while with these easterlys that will be with us now for a few days or could be weeks.

Report on-board Optimist
Although Optimist has been out of the water for two weeks it doesn’t stop me getting out with friends for a bit of fishing in between the job list to be done. The Skerries are still producing well with good sizes of Ray, Blonde, Small eyed, Spotted and Thornback with smooth hound the odd Plaice and some good size Whiting there are still a good variety of fish about.
View Boats Page
On the wrecks we have been seeing a fair amount of Pollack nothing of vast size but in the 3lb to 6lb range which is nice for those who would like one for the table.
Bookings are trickling in for 2017 so if you have a particular date in mind check the tides and give us a call we will do our best to put you on the fish.
For those of you more interested in watching our wildlife than catching fish we are now running regular bird and wildlife watching trips on Sunday mornings with a local accredited guide, but these do book up fast so best to give us a call, Optimist is still available for charter in the afternoon and for full days Monday to Saturday.
We look forward to welcoming you aboard in 2017. -

Report on-board Size Matters
We are fast approaching the end of the winter Cod season on the Mersey. The fishing over the last four weeks has been up and down, most days we are boating 20+ to 30+ Cod a trip to 10lb 8oz. On February 7th we had a very good day we boated 64 Sizeable Codling from 2lb to 4lb 8oz. That's the most we have had in one trip all season. There is still a few big whiting around we had one that was 54cm it weighed 2lb 6oz that's a big whiting for the Mersey! Rays, flounders and dabs have started to show so spring is well on the way and it won't be long till the Cod move out to deeper water and the rays take there place in the Mersey.

Size Matters last trip on the Mersey is February 23rd then it's time to head south in March to Plymouth for the Summer season.
Here are the last available dates on the Mersey this winter.
Saturday 18th sailing at 5am sailing 2 places.
Tuesday 21st sailing at 7.30am sailing 2 places.
Wednesday 22nd sailing at 8.45am sailing 1 place.
Cheers

Fishing Report by michael button
on Kelley's Hero Charters (Gosport, Hampshire)

Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters
Spent yesterday out wrecking with Ian Dale and Bex on Kellys Hero 3. First time out for me on Ian's new boat and its a peach. Beamy, well equipped would be an understatement. Comfortable on the cruise out, fast , she averaged 17 knots at 2000 rpm. We spent a few hours steaming for distant wrecks. First wreck had a lot of fish on it, with multiple fish coming on each drift for the party on board, which included Sean Heath skipper of Great White 2. Rattle back white eels were doing the trick , I had five fish on the first wreck with a sprinkling of good double figure fish to other anglers.
View Boats Page
When the action slowed down a bit, Ian moved off a few miles to another wreck and we were straight back into a good stamp of fish, blue and white red gill evolution accounting for the better fish, the fish box was filling up and when action started to slow we set off for another wreck, with the tide starting to slow down the fishing dropped off but we were still taking the odd fish or two, so Ian moved to another close wreck and I managed to winkle one more Pollack out on a red gill pilchard fished very slowly.
All in all a great days fishing, had 10 Pollack with the biggest knocking the double figure mark. Went home with a lot of fish, very tired, and happy knowing Ian's trips give great value for money if you fish hard.
