Report on-board Mistress
Its seems like its been an age since I put a report up on here, a combination of poor weather engine maintenance and the slowing down of bookings due to the time of year have all contributed!
View Boats Page
I keep getting phone calls asking if I'm running trips yet, the truth is, I'm a full time Skipper and I run trips 365 days a year bookings/weather permitting. This is my only job.
Prior to running the trips last week I was a couple of weeks down waiting for parts to come from various spots, contributing to full top end engine overhaul, all coolers have been stripped cleaned and pressure tested, cylinder head overhauled and pressure tested, new turbo, overhauled injectors with new nozzles, needless to say shes running very well again.
So this last week, we ran two trips, midweek whilst the tides were still quite lively we managed a half decent day with everyone catching the best angler taking 7 keeper cod plus a few whitings and poutings, but everyone caught, totaling around 40 cod for the day plus the usual pesky whitings and poutings.
We have another weather system coming through at the minute and it looks al ot more settled next week, from monday onwards, we should be able to get to sea.
We have availability all week, with trips on the 28th and 4th, but while were uptiding we only need a minimum of three people to run to sea guys. I'm sure with a spell of settled weather we will be thinking of an early run out to the wrecks very soon.
Also, people are starting to plan well ahead now into the summer and the best tides are being picked and taken for the competitions, April 1st-16th, July 1st-23rd and September 2nd-17th
If you fancy a trip with me any time, please message or call me at seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk / 07977 436903 or drop me a message on my facebook Mistress Sea Angling Charters

Report on-board Silver Spray II
Fishing has been a mixed bag over the last month with all of the changes in weather. It seems to have dropped off in the bay with just a few whiting left and a couple of rays here and there. We have been focusing our efforts on the banks off shore. The spurdogs have started steadily with some trips producing up half a dozen or so, I expect these catches to increase well into March as was the case last year. What makes these days so enjoyable is the variety of species that you see. Undulates, thornbacks, blonde rays, pollock, bull huss, whiting all making regular appearances lately. Dean Cook landed 8 whiting up to 3lb 8oz on large baits meant for spurdog on one day, a piece of luminous green tubing on a flowing trace his secret weapon. This Sunday will be our first trip out to the long distance wrecks to target pollock, with plenty of sprats marking on the sounder already we are hoping to get stuck straight into them.

Fishing Report by Phil White
on Chinook 3 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)
20 Feb 2017 by Phil White
Report on-board Chinook 3
We have had a real mix of weather this last fortnight, snow and strong east winds last week then calm and cloudy this week, this has allowed us to get out to the offshore marks where we have had some great sport on the Thornbacks in calm conditions.
View Boats Page
Offshore
Fishing has steadily improved every day this week on the offshore grounds. The numbers of Thornbacks is steadily increasing all the time, the dogfish have not turned up yet and there are only odd whiting, this means the Thornbacks are getting time to find the baits without competion. These early Thornbacks really pull hard and in light currents are good sport.
Most fish are the smaller males but the bigger females are starting to show with several fish over 10lb, best at around 12lb on Sunday. Best baits are herring and squid.
Inshore
Fishing is improving all the time, there are more Thornbacks showing up in all areas, these fish will be around all through the spring and into June.
There are some cracking whiting around the inshore marks, these fish will take most baits but squid and lug are the best.
The piers and estuaries have been hard but will improve steadily now with more Thornbacks, whiting and maybe odd codling around. There are still some cracking dabs in the Blackwater estuary, these fish have been with us all winter and have been a lifeline for us on days we would have cancelled.
Prospects are excellent. It looks like Thornback numbers are still very good and with spring around the corner we will start to see other species turn up like the spurdogs or maybe a decent cod or two.

Fishing Report by Philip Higgins
on Mistress Linda / San Gina3 (Poole, Dorset)

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
Last weekend saw February temperatures rise to be able to fish in shirtsleeves and flat calm conditions allowing us to venture out to the mid channel wrecks for the 1st time this year, not knowing if they were holding fish we set of in thick fog which is always challenging navigating Poole Harbour but once we cleared the main channel the fog disappeared leaving beautiful sunny conditions. Our 1st stop produced 2 Pollack on the 1st drift and continued to average 1 per drift then on, nothing big all around the 8-9lb mark, as we moved to another wreck we were rewarded with a bonus Coalfish of 9lb 12ozs. As we had now caught our target species and with the tide due to ease soon we choose to try some new bank marks I had come across last year, once anchored we were immediately into Blonde Rays with the best going 25lb 4 ozs in 1 hr 15 mins we had landed 16 Rays. A good days fishing. On Sunday the anglers choose to stay local, our 1st mark only produced 1 Ray and a few small whiting so we moved to a gulley mid Poole Bay and were rewarded with lots of Congers to 62lb, Pollack to 10lb and our usual friends the Dogfish.

4 hour trip today. This was a challenging trip as we had a 14th birthday party on board today.
View Boats Page
Once the excitement had calmed down and the boys had listen to there first baiting, fishing lesson and got past idea of putting a worm or squid head on a hook they dropped there weights and patiently waited for something to happen. Thankfully A line went tight and a decent size whiting was landed.
The next 4 hours saw a steady stream of whiting cod and dabs were landed. The boys had a great day although providing free fizzy drinks and sweets was maybe not the best idea.
The birthday boys cousin scarlet joined the party and beat al the boys and adults to win the first fish competition with a small whiting. Josh said he had a great birthday on board but was a bit sad as he and his dad blanked. -
