Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters
The last thing you want to hear at 5am in the morning is the alarm clock, unless of course you are going out fishing, and that is exactly what we were doing!

We left the marina at 0630, and battled our way through the fog, and eventually ended up at our first wreck. All 7 anglers were ready to get stuck in as we arrived, so once we set up the first drift, we were away……
When we arrived at the wreck the tide was still running and this worked in our favour as that meant that the fish were still interested in what we had to offer them. So it was all go go go for the first hour, with a mixed bag of fish coming aboard. Once the tide slackened off there was nothing more to worry about other than the kettle going on, and worry what was going to appear out of the fog next, whilst the guys tried to hook a few more out of the wreck.
Once the tide got away we steamed to the next wreck. This wreck fished for a few hours with a very nice stamp of Cod upto 12lb and Pollock upto 13lb. We had a new personal best for Mark on this wreck with a Pollock. Just as the fishing was getting even better, an unwanted visitor appeared from out of the shadows, which happened to be a French trawler. Unfortunately this meant we would have to move on to our last wreck.
We ended our day on this wreck after fishing for around an hour. We had a steady stream of Pollock being caught. There was a sprinkling of bass on this wreck aswell, which proved to me that grown men do cry……as they have to be and were returned.
After 2 hours of Filleting from Derek, it was time to go and sit down with a nice pint and reflect on our very Foggy day out on the wrecks.
Thursday wasn’t as early to start as Wednesday however we did leave the marina with 8 anglers aboard. We took around about 45 mins to get to where we were heading. As we were on a species hunt we thought we would try and head for some bream first. This proved to be very productive. We boated some nice bream upto 3lb.
We had 3 anglers from the Southsea Disabled angling club on board who all managed to catch some lovely fish. Simon had his new personal best bream, and Mark nearly reached another personal best with a bream.
So after moving around at slack water, we managed to hook into another few species. It was lovely to see some nice Cuckoo wrasse come aboard. Along with this we had garfish, whiting, dogfish, pout, bream. Brian obviously thought he had missed out on the wrecking yesterday so he thought he would go and catch himself a Pollock.
The spot we finished up on as the tide got away, produced some more nice Bream, and a few more wrasse.
The fog decided it wasn’t going to make too much of an appearance today, so we enjoyed a nice sunny day with flat calm seas, a lot of fish, and 8 very happy anglers. What more could a skipper want huh??!!

Report on-board Vanishing Point-2
Well we are heading out on Friday to try to get on the mighty Smoothounds, with a mix of Thornback Rays and perhaps a Bass or two.

We have now put our pot out again to start to harvest hermit crabs, which we all know is the favourite bait for those hard fighting Hounds, so as it's the first drop, we will see how many we get, as it can sometimes take a drop or two to locate these little wandering pieces of gold...lol
Well with squid just about impossible to obtain, due to the world shortage due to the El Nino we have very limited stocks left in our own freezers, so the days of fishing two Rods each with Squid bait is out of the question at the moment, if you have to fish two rods only one can be fished with Squid while we have some, the other one will have to be fished with an alternative bait and might involve an additional cost for a second rod.
A funny situation occurred the other day on Vanishing Point-2.... a group of anglers came on the boat really nice guys, some had our hire rods and equipment, and some had there own, but with a really hard tide running even the guys with there own gear didn't have the right lead weights and asked if they could borrow one of ours,,,,?
well that is no problem, all I ask is at the end of the day they put them back ready for someone else to use.!! but unfortunately one of the guys snapped off on the cast and asked for another 200 gram weight, which we gave him..!!! BUT...!! this is the thing...... when we came to the end of a very successful days fishing with over 50 fish caught, and it was time to settle up, I told matey he owed us another £2.00 for his lost weight, and he didn't agree???? well I said you lost the weight, which was one of ours, if it had been one of your own it means you would have go to a tackle shop like we do and purchase the tackle so if you borrow weights off of us and you lose it, we have to replace it, and the bigger heavier weights are around £2.00 each it's not rocket science, you lose it ... you pay for it..... or am I missing something here???????. but I must say that is a rare thing to happen most offer to pay for lost equipment, and sometimes if I don't consider it was the fault of the angler we don't charge them.....
OK well I will leave it there and let you all know how we do on Friday....
PS: I want to try to arrange a half days Clay shooting only for the boat..!! if there is anyone interested please call 07768306646 with the new all singing a;ll dancing trap now fitted if you think your good best think again.... Medals and trophies for the top Guns.........!! -

Its been around a week since our last report, in one way its good that we’ve been getting to sea a bit more regularly, in another way its been quite hard work, working around the May algae bloom. With the algae being patchy its meant that no two days are the same, and as the tides have lifted its made fishing quite difficult, never the less we’ve put to sea and got our anglers a few fish to take home. As the tides drop this week the fishing should become more productive.
Early on in the week we experienced some cracking weather and managed to get out and do a bit of Wrecking for a few hours before the wind came on fresh in the afternoon.
The lads who had all fished before but not really done any wrecking managed to rake up a good few fish each for the morning, we managed a few up to 6lb in weight but most in the 2lb - 4lb region.
As the wind freshened on we ran inshore and dropped the anchor to finish the day raking a few more codlings together.
After the previous trip we were tied up a day, then back the day after, the tides had lifted and with only a couple of lads booked on, we stayed inshore Uptiding.
We admittedly had a slow start to the day, moving around raking a few fish here and there. Our 2nd move produced a real nice fresh run cod just over 6lb for one the lads, so it lifted everyones spirits a bit.
Another move saw us boat a few more fish to 4lb just before we lost the tide run, and I upped anchor for a move to one of my more consistent ledges.
The move was a good call, we started getting bites as soon as we’d shut off the engine, we experienced a steady couple of hours with everyone on board getting a few fish and bites.
My good mate Alex came along to help out and wet a line, and also bought his son Kai for a run off.
Kai got one around 4lb and was absolutely proud as punch!
I was fishing too, and despite a bit of a lean time for myself the last couple of trips I was actually managing to bag a few fish!
Ive been trying to run my baits stocks down a bit for next winter so I was using a lot of crab based baits, Ive still got a lot of Black lug worm too, The cart fished well, getting me quite a few bites, the Worm, Mussel and squid also fished well for everyone else on board.
The bites dried up a bit, so we upped anchor for our final move of the day.
It was a good move, no sooner had we settled in got our baits cast in, Kai’s rod started twitching with slow long pulls on his tip. . . . . You guessed it, best fish of the day! It was only ounces short of his PB, he was really buzzing!
Then on his next cast, still absolutely buzzing from his 7lber, the jammy little git only went and clicked a 5lber too!
The lads on board, including his dad were all proud as punch to see the young lad get a few nice fish, as it was Kai finished up with 6 nice cod to take home, and fished the best on the boat . . . . . again!
The tides in the following days took a pretty big jump, and the fishing tailed off a bit for the lads, we still manged fish for the boys though and always put 110% effort in finding our anglers a few fish.
