  • 25/03/2016 Fishing Report by Paul Smith on Rapid Fisher (Poole, Dorset)

    Report on-board Rapid Fisher

    Easter update.
Well as predicted strong winds for the rest of the easter holidays means Rapid Fisher tied to the moorings again but what a great day yesterday was (good Friday ) with a few Rapid fisher regulars.
We left poole Quay at 8:30 after a full saftey briefing and kettle on once I finished handing out the Hot cross buns we headed out into blue sky's and flat sea's.
The guys on deck were in good voice whilst sorting out the rigs for a days plaice fishing and frantically polishing their plaice spoons that had been buried in their tackle boxes for some time.
For a few hours the fishing was slow until the wind and tide turned and picked up then a charter skippers nightmare, one of the crew that has been with me quite a few times decided to go for a hire rod for the day and all was good right until his leg caught it and whooossshhh there she goes over the side and down to the bottom of the sea. Not a happy skipper.
15 minutes later we go back for another drift and MR Dependable and boat Regular Malcolm Nightingale shouts fish on and only pulls up the hire rod that went in earlier, Very happy skipper.
The fishing switched on at that moment and some nice plaice was landed. The area around us is a local hot spot as many boats were out enjoying a great day afloat, the plaice obliged putting smiles all round, and a good solitary flounder, also had a few pin whiting that Barry Atfield had but he was out fished buy his Dad Tony Atfield, Fish of the day went to Dave House with a lovely 3lb plaice.

Well that's about it for the week ahead looking at forecast, let's all hope that the weather calms down for next weekend as we head to the famous Shamble bank on Sunday for Turbot.
Some dates still available coming up and also Evening trips starting soon.

    PAUL.

23 Mar 2016 by Bryan McNeil

    Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters

As usual a last minute booking (23rd March) due to a break in the weather did not disappoint with skipper Ian on Kelly's Hero.
An early season wreck fishing was the agenda for the day with Pollock being the main target and perhaps some early cod.
As usual Ian did not dissapoint putting us over 4 different wrecks that all produced good pollock up to 15lb with the only reason for moving being Ian is like a dog with a bone and would not stop searching for the first early cod.
We spent 12 hrs on the water with Ian only stopping once we had all run out of steam and the boxes were full not many skippers would put as many hours in as Ian. Mind you Dennis put in a few hours filleting bless him.
As usual tea/coffee was plentiful as was the usual banter onboard this very friendly boat.
I have been fishing with Ian for 3 years and he never fails to teach me something, either I'm a slow learner or Ian knows a lot, I think I know which one it is.
My recommendation is to always give the skipper a ring even at short notice and he will sort out a trip for you.
Thanks Ian yet again another great day.

  • 03/2016 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    Mar 2016 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

With some lovely sunshine and flat calm seas 'Spot on' was wrecking mid channel in search of Ling and we were not disappointed, we boated over 20 Ling over the slack water with 25lb being the biggest, some nice channel whiting up to 4lb were also caught on this trip along with a double figure Pollock which are still in abundance.
A few larger Ling hooked and proving just too strong and eventually breaking free in the wreck.

The following day with the tides making we headed again mid channel wrecking in search of Pollock.
After a few wrecks producing smaller fish we hit one which was playing ball and we stayed for a couple of hours with the frantic action but I wanted some bigger fish so at 2pm I decided to move out a further 4 miles and what a good choice, the Pollock were even more frantic and bigger with several double figure fish netted along with a fair few small ling and the occasional pouting.

Pictured is Jon from Cadbury angling with his fine Ling of 25lb which he caught using a 8-12lb class rod baited with mackerel. Very sporting Jon (Well done).

I have now opened my diary for 2017 and its filling up fast so if you want to fish on Brixhams premier charter boat then please get in touch quick or miss the boat!.

Thank to sponsor SIDEWINDER lures for there great products which enable us to catch these monsters of the deep.

If you require any SIDEWINDERS or tackle please get in touch.

    Mar 2016 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

A day at anchor on the famous skerries banks in the deep holes which currently holds the British BLONDE RAY record was on the cards for this fine sunny day.

We left Brixham at 8am and with a short scenic steam across to our intended ray pitt we dropped anchor and waited.
It wasn't long until we had a bite which produced a very small turbot, then another and another, all returned as they were very small.

A quick move and we had our first blonde ray of just over 12lb.
15 minutes passed and the biggest blonde ray of the day fell to Bill of Sidmouth SAC of a nice specimen of
    15lb 5oz.

All in all it was a nice and relaxing day with a few fish netted and a 25lb+ fish lost at the net as it simply wouldn't fit in it and finally biting through the 70lb trace line!

The skerries is starting to produce plaice with small fish being caught and the odd nice 2lb+ fish thrown in the mix, some nice Dabs are also being caught up to a 1lb.

Pictured is Bill with his fine specimen Blonde Ray of 15lb 2oz.
