As the tides ease back towards the neaps this coming week, the fishing has become much steadier on the more inshore marks.

Yesterday, we started the day off, as is the norm this time of year, looking for the Mackerel to get the bait for the day. Not quite as good as the day previous but still plenty enough for what we needed.
We started our bottom fishing on the 7 mile again but the fishing was poor compared to Friday. Just a dozen or so fish to keep.
Slack water was 10.30am so we uprooted and dropped on a bit of scrap on the 9 mile where we picked nicely for a couple of hours.
An old mate, Craig Harland, who I haven’t seen for a year or so was with us and he fished well on the wreck bring up doubles of Codling and some Ling.
Around 35 fish taken there.
Once we’d “milked” the wreck we ran to the ground marks nearby and managed to boat a further 20+ fish to end the day. The usual Whiting, Pouting and Haddock boated along the way too.
Mat Spinks took the best Codling of the day, a couple of ounces over 7lb.
Another great day at sea with good company.
A few of yesterday’s fish shown.
Cheers
Rich

We sailed yesterday with a mixed group of lads.

The NW breeze at the back of the tide hindered us somewhat to start the day, so we gathered up the Mackerel for the bait stocks. Millions of them!! (Only kept enough for what we needed though)
As the tide started to ease back around 9.30am we dropped on a local ground mark. It kept us going for a steady 2-3 hours where the guys picked away at Codling Ling and Haddock.
The baited rigs probably being the most successful, but the Shads also clicking a good number too.
My old mate May Spinks showed me a gold and white Shad which he said he had never caught a thing on,ever. Said it was rubbish and I’d have no chance with it. I popped it on a nabbed 8 fish with it! Anglers and “danglers”!
All in all a great day out with sport for everyone on board.
Cheers
Rich

Fishing Report by Nigel Hodge

Report on-board Seawatch 1
As we head towards the start of the Bluefin Tuna season I am pleased to have spotted our first Bluefin yesterday here at Falmouth Bay.
View Boats Page
One large individual smashing through bait, and only visible for a short period.
With the CHART program now well established, the 3rd season has seen very few changes other than budget restrictions from DEFRA which in turn has resulted in
reduced training and only the existing vessels being able to participate in the 2023 fishery.
This I am sure was a blow to those vessels wishing to get onboard, and will only add to the all ready growing groups of unlicensed vessels who are eager to hook into these amazing fish.
For those of you that are looking to venture out this year unlicensed I would ask you to consider the following before committing, I need to repeat " Consider" as I don't want my ear chewed off by the keyboard warriors that simply insist on non compliance regardless after half a shandy.
1 Fish welfare, if your going to return it safe and well learn about the fish first, everything you need to know is on line, bother to read it !
2 Gear Up - Go big if you can afford it ( We've all been caught with our pants down )
3 Have a game plan
4. Have a crew and practise the drill ( It can get Ugly )
5. Use end tackle that's built for the job ( Home made shit will break )
6. Expect the unexpected ( Each fish writes its own story )
7. Before you lob one in your van to feed your village consider, temperature control, correct bleeding, parasites and mercury levels to name a few, all of which will give you the shits or at worse kill you !
Alternatively book on one of the 25 Uk CHART vessels and enjoy a days fishing and a massive learning curve, we are all still learning about these amazing animals so come and join us on the journey.
All of the above is not a confession in anyway of a promotion to an illegal fishery, however those of you reading this will acknowledge knowing a few chumps that get it wrong every time so lets hope we can
uniform the fishery together and that the teams working hard with DEFRA to obtain an open fishery for all can make it happen without too much bad press from illegal fishery in the interim.
Regards

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
Today was almost a day of two halves……at one point this morning I thought we were really going to struggle, but then things turned out ok after all.
View Boats Page
Another friendly mixed group of lads; some I had met many times before, but the first time for others. We also had very mixed angling experiences, from complete novice to very experienced. It was my kind of day….I love getting the less experienced anglers fishing well. We had a look at the Bell Buoy first for some Mackerel, but there were scant pickings. Thankfully a run out to the three mile ground got us plenty for the day.
I had hoped to drop on a few wrecks close by at the first slack, but the wind and tide together made the drift too fast, even at slack!! As the Ebb Tide came through, sea conditions deteriorated and I thought that we were really going to struggle. However, a run out to the seven mile ground proved to be a decent move. As the wind and tide were against each other, the drift was very slow, but ran in the perfect direction to cover some cracking ground marks.
All of a sudden, the Codling started coming up with some regularity on the bait traces and Hokkai’s. Nothing enormous, but everyone got a few. Once the drift changed, we pushed out to the nine mile ground and the bites continued for another hour or so. Dave Worsfold and Brendan Swain both taking a nice Ling apiece, amongst the Codling.
Just as the tide began to ease , we ran back in for a couple more drifts on the seven mile ground, with a view to finishing on a couple of wrecks at the end of the day. We overran on one particular drift whilst I untangled some lines and Andy Mason went and rattled up a nice 9lb 12oz Cod!! Well done Andy.
We finished on a couple of wrecks for a few more Codling, then ran back in. All the anglers were fantastic company and it’s nice when everyone on the boat gets on well. Thanks for coming today boys, I really appreciate the support.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

A perfect day for a cruise to escape the fairly heavy running tide on the more inshore marks.
We chose a run out to the offshore “Hills” for a change of scenery and they were wick with fish. Soon the deck was “alive with the sound of fish flapping!!” Sorry!
With no moves throughout the day, the lads had the chance of a great days sport on the fish and the majority did just that. The team ending up with the thick end of 90 fish to keep.
No big fish today but some lovely plump Codling to just short of the 7lb mark.
A fabulous day in the water with everyone taking a nice bag of fish home.
Crewman Fergus and me really enjoyed the day too.
Cheers lads and see you all again.

Report on-board Galloper
The Bass fishing aboard the Galloper continues to be very good. There are great numbers showing as we have come to expect over the last few years. there have been a few big fish showing amongst them too. We have seen several in the 6-8lbs over the last few weeks and with that stamp of fish around it was inevitable we would break into double figures sooner or later. That honour fell to Galloper regular and crewman Alex Canham. The fish was caught uptiding on bait and went 11.2lbs. this is currently the biggest so far this year aboard Galloper beating Mark’s fish from the spring which fell just shy of the double figures. Of course there is still plenty of time for this to be beaten.
View Boats Page
We are seeing bass on most trips now in a variety of numbers and sizes depending on where we are and conditions on the day. our general trips have been producing some very good numbers of bass lately as well as the usual hounds, rays and other species. However your best chance of seeing numbers of decent bass is to join us for an offshore bass trip. When conditions suit we will be doing a lot of light tackle bass fishing on lures over the coming weeks and months. These early season trips can produce some of the biggest numbers and hectic action catching big numbers of bass on light tackle. Often surface lures or shallower diving plugs can produce some great sports. If not working lures, jigs and soft plastics deeper can be effective. As ever the good old hokkia feathers are a cheap and effective way to catch them too.
If they aren’t playing ball on the lures then bait can provide some hectic action and pick up some big fish. as we are often fishing in shallow water we can still enjoy fishing with light tackle and occasionally pick up a few other species too.
On our last offshore bass trip we had a variety of anglers with different levels of experience and everybody caught great numbers of fish. at the rate they were coming aboard I would hazard a guess at over 200 bass but to be honest its impossible to keep count with action like that. I am just arranging an offshore bass trip for next Monday (24th) and I currently have spaces. If you cant make this then please get in touch to be added to the list for the next run of offshore trips.
Of course the general fishing continues to produce lots of fish and some nice variety.
I have individual spaces and possibility of full boat bookings over the coming weeks and months if you want to get out.
Remember it is often worth giving me a shout if you are cancelled else where and still wish to get out, as we have lots of sheltered fishing available and a big catamaran which makes it even more comfortable.
