Report on-board Lady Grace
Today I headed out with Stewart and his son Tom of 10yrs old and Tom's friend Harry. We got to our mark just before high water and fished up until slack and luckily the tide started ebbing quite quickly. Tom showed his dad and friend how to do it by catching the first whiting, then his dad caught one and all of a sudden there was no stopping Tom, he was hauling in whiting every cast while Harry watched and waited patiently, finally Harry started catching a few whiting too and then quietly he reeled in his first ever codling. After a slow start Harry was neck and neck with Tom on the whiting front and had a codling too. Although his codling was sized, he let it go to live another day so he could catch it again next time he came out. Tom ended with 14 whiting and Harry had 13 whiting and 1 codling. We headed in from our 4hour trip with 2 very happy boys and a very pleased dad. I was even happier when I realised that all the big boats that had been out all day had struggled to catch codling, 3only had whiting all day and codling at all so we had one lucky codling aboard Lady Grace.

We locked out of the marina and headed up the river to a mark that has given us some nice fish over the last few years. From the start whiting were being pulled in. Until the first cod of the day was landed around the 2lb mark. After that it was constant fishing all day, with a variety of Cod,Dabs and whiting being landed. Paul a regular on Discovery was fishing from the back when he hooked into a very nice fish, managing to get it all the way to were we could see the zip slider and lead coming out of the water but no sign of the fish, until his line snapped and the fish was gone.
Shortly after Ian, another regular hooked into a nice cod which gave a good fight right the way to the surface, when it emerged everybody thought it was into double figures, but it eventually weighed in at 9lb 9ozs. A PB Cod for Ian.
The day drew to a close and the totals for the day were 24 Cod to 9lb 9oz, 100+ Whiting and 24 Dabs
A cracking day fishing lets hope it continues into a great Cod Season

November exploratory trip for Porbeagle shark. With poor weather hampering our intended plans, we resorted to sheltering in relatively shallow water at anchor. Much chumming, with mature and fresh bait - produced eight spurdog all between 5 and 6 lb's. Mackeral were numerous, with some very big. We also hit a great spot with some extremely good pollock... no Porbeagles this time, but we'll keep trying.

The Cod came inshore from the wrecks quite early this year and we've been catching consistently since the third week in October, with most of the action only 4 to 8 miles from the Marina. So the Winter Cod season is well under way!

We've had a fair few mid doubles in the 14lb to 16lb class and the best so far was caught on by Mike Pile on the 11th November, a proper "mud pig" of 24lbs. So if you are seeking a personal best Cod now is the time!
There are also some smaller Cod about in the 6lb to 8lb class which we've not seen this last couple of winters and that's a good sign for the future.
Our normal winter tactics of fishing big cuttle baits on 8/0 pennel rigs has been working well but this year we've also found scaling down works better some days. This means using black lug tipped with a strip of cuttle on a 6/0 hook.
In addition to Cod there are still a fair few decent Plaice and Bass around plus Whiting, Gurnard, Pout and the like. The other day we had a specimen Tub Gurnard of 4lb 2oz so you never know what might turn up!

Todays charter headed north due to a break in the weather thank god. Our first chosen mark resulted in a severe change in depth from last time unbelievable really, so headed to close by wreck that has proved good for me in the past. results were non stop whiting and flatties most of the day, tried another mark in Hemsby hole but no cod played ball. Plenty of fish just the wrong ones! Thanks to Shaun,Richard,Dave,Steve,James and Tasha, and Geoff, lovely day with superb weather ,appreciate you all coming out. Last stop of the day in the Roads proved difficult with too much weed, few whiting as usual, still need a cold snap to bring those cod in. Time will tell. Thanks again to you all. Jon
