    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Foggy old day with little viz to start down to 20mtrs at times, thought best to fish inside the Roads for safety reasons. Weak tides today and gentle NE, started off with whiting , and more whiting and guess what more whiting! Moved position after slack start of the flood further back up to Corton Church, few flatties thrown in with same old whiting. Few keepers in amongst them, tried our hardest for early cod but still none. Moved out to inshore wreck beaten by prolific weed so finished up back inside by the White Swan. Whiting all day, plenty of sport. Big thanks to Lawrence for organizing the day,Charlie,Luke,Vicky and Jimmy,Lewis,Lee and Toby. Would like to add a personal well done to you all today, very nice to see conservation minded anglers taking couple of fish for the table and returning most, wish people would follow your example sometimes.Pleasure to have you aboard, hope to see you guys soon. All the best. Jon.

  • 23/10/2012 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

23 Oct 2012 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Regulars on the boat are the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue unit from Barnsley.

They joined us again today on their last trip of the year. Sadly Paul Deardon, their organiser couldn't make this trip after falling and smashing his wrist. Get well soon mate.

The others who came however enjoyed a great mornings sport but a rather slow finish to the day after being plagued by seals on the last 2 spots!!

We steamed off to a couple of wrecks South East of "Baymans Hole" some 25 miles for a change of scenery today, as the fishing on the inside marks is still proving very difficult indeed.

The first wreck produced the best of all with a nice selection of fish coming on board until around noon.

Kev Raikes enjoyed some nice Haddock fishing on the bait with fish to just over 2lb. Several other Haddock came in as well in the morning.

Chris Mee finishing the day with the most fish.

Thanks for the on-going custom lads and look forward to seeing you all on your trips next year.

    Chris is pictured inset.

    Cheers

    Rich.

  • 23/10/2012 Fishing Report by Gary Flint on Discovery (Liverpool, Merseyside)

23 Oct 2012 by Gary Flint

    Report on-board Discovery

Tuesday 23rd October 2012 - West Yorkshire Police Sea Angling Club

We locked out of the marina at 7am. The Mersey was like a mill pond with not a ripple on the water. We got to the first mark and everybody was baited up and ready for when we anchored. With the anchor in the water, everybody began fishing. It didnt take long for the first whiting of the day to be caught closely followed by a few more. The first cod of the day was boated by David and was 3lb. Shortly after Kevin the "Knotman" thought he had snagged the bottom so with Gary hand balling the line in, a large wake appeared 20metres of the stern. As Kev started to wind the line in with the mysterious fish pumping but not fully surfaced, there was a large swirl in the water and it disappeared back under the surface and the line twanged out of the water. It was clear as to why the fish had been lost due to Kevs knot coming undone. This wasnt to be the last that Kev heard on the matter as he took a barrage of abuse throughout the day from the other guys. However it didnt take long for Kev to redeem himself with a lovely 5lb Cod, followed by Arthur with a 3lb 8oz Cod.
We moved to another mark and it didnt take Jane long to hook into a fish which before it hit the surface, the others were estimating 4lb, when it broke the surface it was a lot bigger than 4lb. Once boated and the hook removed it weighed in at 7lb 6oz. A very nice fish. With the trip drawing to a finish, Arthur landed a lovely 5lb Thornback and David followed up his 3lb cod with a 4lb Thornback, with whiting bringing the day to a close.

An Excellent day with a great bunch of Anglers.

  • 23/10/2012 Fishing Report by Gareth John on Hurricane (Isle of Sheppey, Kent)

23 Oct 2012 by Gareth John

    Report on-board Hurricane

well the cod have arrived and it looks like it could be a good year.
the average size is 6lb with bigger ones among them and reports from the commercial lads tell me that there are much more on the way up the estuary.
we have had a good run of smoothounds up until 2 weeks ago and also found plenty off bass but these are all but gone now apart from the few stragglers.
the weather reports are not good for the coming week lets just hope they got it wrong so we can enjoy some decent sport after last years terrible cod season for us in the estuary.
now all the dredging cable laying and general upheaval has ended it seems we can enjoy the good fishing the estuary has to offer again.
latest report just 2 of us had a day out yesterday in thick fog and calm seas we managed 8 nice cod to 8lb and lost count of the big channel whiting plus we had one thornback ray of 6lb.

    Oct 2012 by Dave Saunders

    Report on-board Kellys Hero Charters

October has produced some good catches of Pollack on the inshore wrecks with Cod and Bass also making a show on the occasional trip. Sprats are abundant and are the reason that the bigger fish have now started to move onto the inner wrecks.
It's good to have some upbeat anglers making bookings for next year (2013) already. Torbay Fishing Festival was interesting this year with good numbers of Black Bream showing and winning the top prize this year.

Our diary is now available for 2013 bookings, I look forward to help you choose your tides and dates.

22 Oct 2012 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Sadly no fishing today here at Whitby with a fresh and very wet front over us.

The lads yesterday however enjoyed another great day aboard the boat with fish to 20lb.

A mixed group from Chorley, Boston and Nottingham.

We are having to steam to distant grounds at the moment to get the better results as the inshore marks are still a little slow to produce. The lads were all in agreement on a run out to the "wall"

The lads were quickly in to fish straight from the off and at the end of the day we counted over 100 fish ranging from a short spined sea scorpion at 11oz to a ling which managed to nudge the scales to a smidging over 20lbs!

Plenty of cod showing on the ground as well. All smaller than of late though with nothing much over the 6lb mark.

Weather permitting we will be away again in the morning with one of our regular teams from South Yorks Fire and Rescue.

Regular angler on the boat Kev Gillings is pictured with his P.B ling of 20lb 1oz. Well done mate!!

    Tight lines!
    Rich.

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Small numbers today on board plenty of room , those who didnt turn up missed cracking weather for this time of year. Headed out to 5 mile bank, plenty of whitting, few spotted dogs still, and flatties. Caught the slack just before the flood started seemed today the fish wanted a bit of tide run to feed. Not to much weed thank god lately been plagued by it. After lunch moved inshore in the Roads further south ,catching decent size whitting on the ebb, no cod for us today, patchy reports of codling, still too warm.Big thanks to our small party today of regulars Ian,Dave,James and from Stoke on holiday Laura and Jamie pictured with few whitting that were kept. Enjoyed the day, hoping the cod will be in soon for us! Jon.
