    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Headed out today, lucky slot in the recent weather , tides perfect for us, SW on an ebb flattening the inshore Roads for a reasonably comfortable day even with a strong wind. Apart from the showers and the cold air, we caught plenty whiting, few keepers biggest at 43cm. Only one flattie today down to the full moon and strong tides i reckon, one small pouting to me which i never caught close inshore ever! Big thanks to Lee,Wayne, and birthday boy Barry, pictured middle, from Canvey Island, also lads from Bolton, George,Neil,Paul,Dave and Tony for organizing them. Sorry no cod today guys, still waiting patiently for them, however glad the whiting kept us busy. Thanks for coming out on the High Flyer, safe journey home lads. Jon.

    Thursday 25th October 2012 - Chris Taylor -

We locked out of the marina just after high water and headed up the river. When we got to the first mark and anchored, we began to get the lads geared up. With the baits all in the water it didnt take long for the first fish of the day to be pulled aboard a thornback of 4lb 9oz falling to Sweep. After this everybody began boating whiting untill Chris pulled in the first cod of the day weighing in at 2lb 4oz. Not to be outdone Arthur began pulling in Cod to 3lb. With plenty of dabs whiting doggies and Cod, we decided a move was in order.

After anchoring more whiting and dabs were pulled aboard with a couple of nice Thornbacks to 7lb. As we apporached to last hour of the trip a few more Cod were pulled in by Arthur, Chris and Wayne. Total Cod for the trip was 11, with 3 Thornbacks, numerous whiting dogs and dabs.

A Cracking trip with a good bunch of lads

A picture speaks a thousand words.

    Report on-board Warrior II

Hi all, well what a funny old season that was ! first we had an early shark on 6th June then poor weather for the rest of the month. July showed promise with some good sized sharks, then plenty of sharks but some awful weather in August (our best day had 11 sharks). Sept started well and had 46 sharks in 14 days before engine trouble !! Out of commission for 14 days then back to it.
We are now at the end of Oct and the reef fishing (when we can get out is pretty good - out last Mon and lots of different species inc. Brians Five and a half pound Black Bream !
Force Ten is in the water all Winter so I have a Text list of Anglers that can get down if there is a window in the weather, if you want to get on txt list just send your details and I can then give you the option.
Thanks to all that fished or booked this year and please dont leave it late if you want sharking dates in high season as diary is filling rapidly ! Wishing you all a Happy Xmas and a safe and healthy New Year. Tight Lines, Pete

    Report on-board Mistress

Not strictly a boat report here, but with the strong northerly storm we have just encountered here at Whitby, there has been some exellent shore caught catches.

The people who know me, will know Im a very keen angler and enjoy my shore fishing. I fished Friday, Saturday and Sunday, each day producing some lovely cod, the sea colour at the minute is like chocolate and the uptiding, as soon as we get out this week will be absolute dynamite, the fish will be feeding hard and confidently after the blow up.

Last night (Sunday) was our local club match, there were several fish weighed in between 6lb and 8lb and the biggest bag was well over 20lb in weight.

Dont miss the good fishing folks, get booked on this week for some Uptiding there is a better than average chance of some double figure Cod.
You dont have to book the boat, with us uptiding I will sail with a minimum of two anglers.

    Tight lines

    Rich

Two fish caught off the west pier on saturday afternoon, in daylight!
one at 4lb and the other 5lb

  • 24/10/2012 Fishing Report by Carl Davies on Gwen-Paul-M (Conwy, Conwy)

24 Oct 2012 by Carl Davies

    Report on-board Gwen-Paul-M

    October 24th

We've had a pretty busy season and I've been a bit slack with the trip reports so here's a summary :). The summer has been challenging weatherwise, to say the least, but with many beginner anglers booking this year we have been able to fish inshore and dodge the weather on many occasions. September, so often a good month for fishing, was disrupted with a few gales, however October has been far more settled with even a couple glassy calm days. Weather has set in now from the north for a few days so its unlikely we will venture out now until next week.

The fishing has been very good at times through the summer and we've seen some species in numbers that we haven't seen for a few years. Notably we saw more thornback rays this year than for a few years. Spurdog were again present in numbers near the Isle of Man in September and over this last weekend we caught a few 20 miles from Conwy. They are definately making a come back in the Irish Sea and are a good fun fish to catch. It was another good summer for mackerel with many large fish amongst them, even in the summer. Normally large mackerel are only seen at the beginning and end of the season but this year we saw them throughout the summer. Inshore ground fishing was good with a variety of the usual species, whiting, dabs, gurnard, dogfish, codling, bull huss, rays and tope. There were some large tope inshore in June/July with the best one around 50lb. The offshore wrecks produced plenty of pollack, cod in May and June, coalfish, ling and conger. Pollack on the inshore wrecks were in short supply but all the other wreck species were around.

We completed 4 two day Isle of Man trips and had to cancel two which was not too bad a hit rate considering the weather we were dealt. The wreck and reef fishing was good on all the trips. The trip proves popular with those that fancy a fishing 'minibreak'.

So is the season over? In November last year we saw some of the best pollack fishing of the year with a few coalfish and codling thrown in. The fishing is a good distance away so we need good weather but I will advertise a couple of 10 hour trips in November, in the area that we did so well last year.

I am presently taking bookings for next year and many weekend dates have already been booked so if you are thinking of booking a weekend day for next year probably an idea not to leave it too long. If anyone hasn't yet used their vouchers there is a trip this Sunday with room, alternatively you could use them next year.

We've seen many bottlenosed dolphins this year. I've also seen a pair of common dolphins on two occasions whilst lobster potting. The second time they were with me for around one and a half hours checking out the pots as they were coming to the surface.

    Carl Davies.

  • 27/10/2012 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

27 Oct 2012 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The weather here at the moment is diabolical to say the least !!

A howling Northerly which I guess even the lifeboat crew would be a little reluctant to sail in. Gusts last night reached 70mph in some areas across the North East causing some storm damage.

The forecast for next week isn't a lot better to be honest, although the forecasters have predicted the wind to swing more into an offshore direction, but still very strong all week.

We have decided to take a short break whilst the kids half term holidays are running, so our next availability will be from November 5th. The tides from the 5th are very good so if you fancy a go give me a ring ( I have taken the work number with me ) This will also give it a good chance to settle down again. We will sail with a minimum of 4 anglers. You don't have to book the whole boat !

    Happy fishing lads

    Rich.
