on Seren y Mor (Swansea, Vale of Glamorgan)

Report on-board Seren y Mor
July has come and gone and thankfully we had some decent weather at last, fishing throughout July was generally good with the settled weather allowing the mackerel to shoal and stay inshore. The smoothounds hung around for most of the month and the pack tope put in an appearance on the inshore reefs, bream fishing remains patchy but there are plenty of dabs on the inshore banks. Over the last couple of weeks the ray fishing has picked up on the eastern marks with 18/20 fish a tide not uncommon, also we`ve picked up some nice bass to 6lb. Lets hope we`ll get some decent weather during August to get offshore.

Fishing Report by Scott Belbin
on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

Report on-board Galloper
i thought i'd put in a quick update on how the summers going from west mersea so far. to be honest the tope fishing throughout june and july was near enough non-existant but i few fish showed to remind us what great sport fish they are.however the bass fishing this year has more than made up for it. After a good start in the spring we have seen good numbers of bass on many days this summer. our general fishing has been better than last summer with good numbers of thornbacks in places and some numbers of bigger smoothounds starting to show over the past few weeks. as with the rest of the country we have suffered from the poor weather this summer. although we can often find shelter, it often means we cant get off to where the fish are on that day. with a break in the weather last weekend we managed to get a days bass fishing in offshore.despite conditions not being perfect it was a pleasure to be out as the last couple of offshore trips had to be changed to inshore trips due to the wind. as usual we fished the last of the ebb with three bass around the 2-3lbs mark to show for our efforts before the tide died. we then re-psitioned the boat ready for the flood. there was a fair breeze blowing which held us off the bank for the first 45minutes but once the tide got up we were on the mark and saw our first couple of bass for the flood. we fished here untill about 12.30 when after a busy hour we had totalled 18 bass to with most in the 2-4lbs range and a couple of undersized fish. the fishing slowed so we moved to our next mark which was 6-7 miles closer to home. here we anchored with the hope of a mixed bag including some bigger bass and we werent disapionted. the first fish was another bass which was just under size and it wasnt long before we had our first thornback of the day. we fished here for another couple of hours before we had to head for home. by the time we had finished we had a nice mixed bag to add to the 18 bass, dogfish and weaver fish we had caught in the morning. the lads had managed 10 thornbacks with a couple pushing doubles, 12 more bass around the same stamp as earlyer. we had a smooth-hound about 5lbs and a sole and of course several dogfish too. we also managed 2 codling shortly before we left which was good to see. several other boats have caught some too over the last week. thats a great sign for the coming cod season! after last years poor show it seems that those little ones we were catching in the spring are returning with a bit of added wieght.

over the next month or so we should see good numbers of smooth-hounds, bass should be good especially if we can get offshore for another crack at them the thornbacks will start to move back inshore in a few weeks time and sometime in september we should see the first run of codling. keep an eye on the 'last minute bookings' as we get the odd drop out although we are fully booked untill october at the minute. for more information, available dates and a weekly fishing update please visit www.essexseafishing.co.uk or phone 07956411528UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Galloper

Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen
on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)
Jul 2011 by Gethyn Owen
Report on-board My Way 2
They say time flies when you’re having fun, well I certainly hadn’t noticed that a whole month had passed by since our last report. Most trips were certainly fun, but then there were also those that despite all efforts still didn’t pan out as hoped for, guess that’s fishing!
View Boats Page
This report picks up the reigns mid-July, when we were joined by a group of local lads from Rhosneigr. An early sail saw us feathering up some mackerel at 7am en-route to Holyhead Deep. That should actually read attempting to feather up some mackerel, they have all but disappeared of late making a haul of enough for a decent days fishing wishful thinking. Granted, I can drift around for 6hrs catching a few for the bbq, but, fortunately most anglers appreciate the unreliable nature of this species for us and come prepared.
Spurs, tope and huss all obliged the rods aboard, not as many as previous trips, but never the less, made the early wakeup call worth it, finishing the day on the drift for wrasse then at anchor with dogs, gurnards and rays making up the catch.
On our way back inshore form the deeps we all noticed a very bright light shimmering on the sea a few miles NE from our position. After a few minutes of constant shine the light simply disappeared! Not knowing what we had seen, but being fully aware it was too bright for anything on land I alerted Holyhead Coastguard to the strange light in the area.
As we made way in the direction of the light, maybe a ship light, flare or reflection from something, Rhoscolyn shore patrol were also tasked by the Coastguard to take a look onshore. After an hour, nothing had been observed and then a call came in from Holyhead Coastguard informing me that the shore patrol had observed a strange ‘metal wheel’ floating on the water. Trearddur Bay ILB was sent for a look and found a man inside what could best be described as a human sized mouse wheel. He was attempting to walk the sea to Holyhead. It’s more than likely what we had seen aboard My Way was the reflection his wheel cast in the bright sun.
All’s well that ends well, I would like to thank Dafydd who texted asking if I had ‘Seen the light’ and also Gareth on Spindrift, who played ‘Blinded by the light’ to me on the phone!
Off to the deeps again with Milnrow Sea Anglers, you can read a report from club secretary Paul Whiting on my website.
Sadly the RAFA SAC had strong SW winds in the morning to bring a sudden halt to any thoughts of veenturing to Holyhead Deep. Those who know the guys and for those who follow their antics aboard My Way know only too well – fish, fun and food were still on the agenda. Check the video on our website orCBUK .
Fortunately the settled weather returned for a few days of the neap tides the end of July and we set sail regular into the Deeps. Tope, spurs and huss served the anglers fairly well with the biggest of this set around the 30lb mark for Holyhead Angler Tony Dooney. Species Hunter Trevor Cozens managed to add his targets of cuckoo wrasse, spotted ray and eventually a tope to his 100 species of fish inside of 3 years from UK waters, check our links page for Trevors blog a worthwhile read.
Geordie anglers Roy, Brian and Paul had a few days aboard My Way during this time also determined to get amongst double figure sport in the deeps. With Roy’s target being the elusive tope. Frustration was setting in with Roy as he witnessed a few tope come over the gunwales, but all on other anglers rods. It wasn’t until the last day when a tope finally put that smile on his face!
The various reefs are producing well once again - wrasse, pollack and codling with the sizes of the latter reaching 6 or 7lbs on occasions, sadly the reliability not always as good as the anglers would hope for.
Reliable though is the wrasse, plenty of good specimens averaging 2 to 3lb, with the odd fish going up to 4lb. As August continues these will improve and offer fish touching the 5lb mark on calibrated scales.
On the larger tides when we are restricted inshore there’s plenty of sport fishing to be had on species hunts and small competitions etc. check out our websites latest Gallery uploads for a taste of the last 4 weeks - http://www.goangling.co.uk Gallery 79 | Gallery 80 | Gallery 81 | Gallery 82

Fishing Report by Brian Shone
on Lady Helen (Liverpool, Merseyside)
6 Aug 2011 by Brian Shone
Report on-board Lady Helen
Sailed from the marina at 06.00am with John Mac and the rest of the Mersey Pirates, had one of the calmest days this year (so far), fished out on the Hoyle Bank, with mixed results of dogs, huss, dabs, weavers, whiting, small codling several types of gurnard and loads of mackerel with a smatering of herring in amongst them, best rig was a small shrimp rig which out fished the others hands down for the mackies and herring. Moved inshore to try for the rays and smothies, couple of small rays and a single 7lb starry smothound to Phil (yet again), and returned to the marina at about 17.00pm

Fishing Report by Peter Everett
on Amino (Shotley, Suffolk)
Jul 2011 by Peter Everett
Report on-board Amino
Fishing over the last month has been pretty reasonable when the weather has let us get out!!! Smoothounds and Thornbacks have provided the main sport along with Tope, Dogfish and even a few Codling and Whiting but its really been a month of 'the ones that got away' with several big fish being lost at the boat or during the fight. :-(
View Boats Page
There are still dates available if you would like to try some summer sport fishing, however these species will thin out over the coming month and we will await the arrival of the Cod and Whiting for the Winter. With Codling and Whiting already being caught, it could suggest we'll have a better year than last year.... :-)
I am taking bookings for Winter Cod fishing already so if you are a small group of people and would like a boat to yourselves for the day, give me a call.
Slack ropes and all that.... -

Fishing Report by Roger Lennon
on Skerry Belle (Ramsgate, Kent)
Aug 2011 by Roger Lennon
Report on-board Skerry Belle
After taking over this boat in March the weather has stopped us getting out as much as I'd like so I haven't been posting, but as you can see now we've been able to get out onto the Bass grounds at long last. It has been hectic fishing with several specimens over 10lb with our best so far at 12lb 2oz. The Mackerel are showing everywhere, the hounds have styed with us and there are still some large skate showing on most trips. I think that the summer has arrived at last and this fishing will continue right throuh into October when hopefully the cod will arrive in numbers. All these fish were caught within 40 minutes of Ramsgate harbour which proves you don't have to steam miles and waste valuable fishing time to get really decent fish!!

Some dates are still available for day bookings and I'm still running my 4 hour evening trips which is plenty of time to catch yourself a decent specimen!!UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Skerry Belle
