Report on-board High Flyer 2
Well its been extremely testing month or two plenty of whiting too many to be honest at times a pain. We shouldnt moan but we do, still getting the odd spotty dog and thornback thrown in. nothing has gone to plan like a normal season, this year has been a strange one with a abundance of rays this year but hardly any mackerel only a few tope as well, but millions of sandeels and big launce on the feathers. The wind has been relentless i cant remember when it was like a sheet of glass this summer only the odd day without wind. Its been the most trips since we have been chartering that i have had to cancel due to the weather bit testing to say the least. We are still waiting for our cod to arrive reports of plenty further north just the odd one or two for us at the moment hoping these strong easterlies might have dropped the water temperature for us . Despite all the doom and gloom we have been kept busy by the whiting of all sizes without them we would be worried but that could all change with the promise of a bad winter round the corner so we keep being told. Big thanks to everyone for there continued support of High flyer 2 i have stopped putting strings of whiting up as caused stupid comments on facebook stuff that i personally havent got time for and running a full time charter vessel to all the legal requirements from IFCA fish rules to codes of practice etc the effort put in to please everybody from the catering side to paperwork and advertising, phonecalls, boat maintenance, skipper refreshment courses the list goes on these pathetic individuals who know nothing of our local area try to do damage over the internet so i thought best to wait till few codling arrive for our next batch of photos. We are already taking bookings for 2019 please think ahead all those wanting to wreck fish on those precious weak tides , also those self employed take advantage of a corporate day to claim against your tax with full receipt provided, and our night trips will go ahead soon as we get a few more cod. New brochure will be out in the not to distant future , if anybody wants A4 flyer as advertised here please ask will send laminated copy out were very much appreciative of you helping us out. Well until then tight lines everyone . Jon (High Flyer 2)

Fishing Report by Philip Higgins

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
Due to the series of strong winds we have endured for the last few weeks fishing has been very limited and I have earned loads of ‘brownie points’ at home. When we have managed to get afloat the fishing has been good with plenty of Whiting ranging from small to medium, lots of Conger Eels up to 12lb many not much bigger than a common eel which bodes well for the future, the usual dogfish, pout and the odd ray but as a bonus some quality Pollack have been caught with the latest falling to Mark Turner using light tackle aimed at Whiting weighing in at a respectable 13lb. The Cod have yet to arrive but the other fish will keep you on your toes with an average of a fish every other drop. If you are available and fancy a trip please call.

My brother in law, his mates and a couple of others joined us on the boat yesterday for a days inshore anchor fishing (uptiding)
The fishing started off quite well with some good bags of codling by lunchtimes slack water. The flood tide in the afternoon not producing much at all to be fair with maybe another 15 or so fish between the lads.
Never the less, a thoroughly enjoyable day for all on board with a nice few codling for the table.
No big fish landed on the boat. Our Dave and Simon England boating around 25 codling between them and a good number of throw backs too.
Cheers lads and see you on the next one.
If you fancy joining us for a days anchor fishing, give me a call on 07733 233352
Room for 7 individuals next Friday (30th)
Cheers

Fishing Report by Sam Cumming
on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)
Nov 2018 by Sam Cumming
Report on-board Silver Spray II
Although the weather has limited the amount of trips we have done over the last month we have managed a good variety when given the opportunity. All the excitement from last month’s shark trips encouraged us to have another go which proved very fruitful. Tony Lees boated is first porbeagle shark weighing around 200lb, the fish fought for an hour and a half and as usual was returned unharmed to terrorize the bream for another day. We figured we had had our luck for the day until 1415 when we started to catch a few small mackerel on feathers by the surface. Within five minutes of putting one of these tiny things on for bait we had our second run. After getting all our other gear out of the water it became clear just what we had hooked into as an enormous thresher jumped clean out of the water 100m behind the boat. After a couple more jumps, one of which we caught on camera and you can see on our Facebook page, and 3 more hours we managed to get the boat alongside the fish as it swam along at 6 knots and touch the trace to confirm the catch. It’s tough to estimate the size of a creature like that as it’s the biggest thing I have ever seen on rod and line by a long way. The anglers and I all agreed it must have been between 500 and 600lb. What a monster. Also on our last shark trip Karston Murray landed not one but two Atlantic bonito at the same time on feathers whilst fishing for bait. A first for us on Silver Spray. Elsewhere the bream fishing on the offshore wrecks seems to be getting better and better with just a short session over slack producing a good 50+ fish to 4lb. Inshore the winter fishing has begun with the first cod and whiting hitting the deck along with some early season spurdogs as well. Although the weather hasn’t been great for them we have managed a couple of goes for the squid with some success as well. Over the next couple of weeks we shall just be inshore focusing on the cod and also some drifting for bass.

A good forecast for the day and with great conditions too the lads fished very well for the best part of the day. Cod to around the 7 lb mark and Ling to 11.5 lbs. The lads ending up with around 70 fish between the 5 of them
Our Adam had a crazy idea he wanted to try catch a fish in 30 fathom of water on a mackerel spinner! Using the shad method with a 12 oz lead and 3 ft leader he had a go and did just that. A lovely Cod of 7 lb on a spinner!!
How the tiny treble held together I'll never know. Testament to the hook or his angling skills???? !! Maybe a bit of both?
Adam filleted all the fish for the lads on the way back to port.
The lads are pictured inset with some of their catch.
Cheers and tight lines
Rich
