Report on-board Chinook 3
Happy new year to everyone. Well we have had some really horrible weather over the holiday period but it is nice to get back into a routine of sorts.
View Boats Page
We have not managed to get out for a fortnight so it was a relief to finally get a trip in this Saturday. Well the good news is that there are still some codling around although there are not many, we managed five on Saturday up to 2lb with all the other boats reporting a few.
What was encouraging was a return of some nice big female Thornbacks which we have not seen inshore since the spring, these females have eggs in and should be returned to the sea but it does mean there are more decent fish to catch along with the chance of a cod. All the other boats also reported several nice Thornbacks.
There are plenty of nice whiting still around in all areas although they do leave the Estuaries over the new year, the piers and shore marks will still produce right through the Winter.
There are some lovely dabs in the Estuaries with several fish reported at over 30cm, these tasty little flatties are easily caught using paternoster rigs fished up and down rather than casting, small baits of worm, squid or herring work well.
Prospects as always in the winter depend on lots of factors, water temperature, abundance of Herring or Sprat and numbers of Cod but there are some nice fish to be caught and the past few Januaries have been quite good fishing so don't give up on it, have a day out and enjoy it. -

Report on-board Size Matters
During the holiday period we only managed to get out twice because of the weather forecast and on some of the days we cancelled the forecast was much better than expected.

When we did get out we caught cod to 7lb, plenty of whiting and Dabs. It’s now the half way point of our winter season on the Mersey and this year especially I have noticed some big changes. We are catching more cod and bigger ones on the tides ranging from 28ft to 30.5ft, I think this is because there has been so much fresh water in the Mersey and the bigger tides are bringing in more salt water which in turn is helping the fish feed more. Also since the completion of L2 container terminal the flow of the Mersey has changed and so have some of the areas we fish especially this winter season. You can fish the Mersey on a 30ft tide from the boat and the run is just like a 27ft tide in certain places.
We also have a few wrecking trips coming up, please remember the weather forecast for the Mersey is not the same as 60 miles out in the Irish Sea. For these wrecking trips to happen at this time of year the forecast has to be very good to travel the distance.
Let’s hope some good big cod have turned up after this set of big spring tides and storms we have had.
Mersey trips cost £45 per person includes all tackle, hot drinks and are 9 to 10 hours.
Wrecking trips cost £80 per person and include all tackle, hot drinks and are 12 hours. Any tackle you lose while wrecking you have to pay for.
Here are the last available dates this winter season onboard Size Matters from Liverpool.

Good evening guys! Heres an update from Whitby
View Boats Page
We've been lucky enough to get to sea a couple of times this week. Both days have been breezy and conditions not perfect but we've still managed to get amongst the fish!
Best fish this week so far was a shade under 10lb, but we've seen plenty in 4-5lb bracket.
And loads of 2-3lbers.
Best bait continues to be black lug, dirty squid and crab cart.
We have 6 spaces tomorrow (thursday 4th jan) and completely free for friday 5th jan. We only need 3 lads to sail. Trips are £5 per person per hour. Bait and tackle can be supplied at cost.
If you're interested please give me a call or text on 07977 436903

Our in depth knowledge of the local grounds has been built through hours at sea. Our previous vessel 3 Fishes built a classy reputation as a fish catcher and 'Legend' will better her. With twelve years of running fishing trips out of New Quay I am keen to get 'Legend' out there and fishing in 2018. Our season will start by mid March when we will be chasing monster huss, spurdogs, rays and some quality whiting. By June it will be all tope and bream and towards the back end its bass time.
Be Epic and join me aboard 'Legend' in 2018. -

We've had some fantastic catches aboard throughout 2017 with a lot coming from venturing further afield.
I myself am looking very forward to 2018 with all the prospective trips booked in and enquiries for Ireland & Isle Of Man trips for 2-5 days.
I am sat back enjoying a well needed 12 days off, Since October taking when I took delivery of the new boat things have been hectic, Getting her ready and licensed for the Winter season, Sorting plans for moving to Liverpool, Stress is always going to be a factor with a gamble of moving port, We are very thankful for all the support throughout.
So Tight lines for the coming year,
