    Aug 2017 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

[This report was written when Size Matters was operating from Plymouth]

Over the last week we have been helping a few kids get into sea fishing, the weather has been very good so I decided to throw the kids in at the deep end and take them wrecking.
To get kids interested in fishing on there first few times out you need to help them catch something big, that gives them the wow factor to get them hooked. On one of the days 11 year old Harrison Jones from Newport caught the biggest Pollack of the day, a cracking summer Pollack of 13lb. On a different day 10 year old Arron Higham from Preston caught the biggest Pollack of the day 11lb and he also caught the most. The kids absolutely loved the trips, it's so important to get kids into fishing instead of sitting at home playing on iPads and Xbox's.
It's a big world out there and experiencing nature first hand beats technology every time!!!
On other trips we have been catching Blue Shark to 80lb, Conger to 43lb, Ling to 38lb, Cod to 18lb, Pollack to 17lb, Tub Gurnard to 5lb 8oz and a 40lb Sunfish that came to say hello.
Bookings for 2018 have been coming in thick and fast and we are now 75% fully booked, a very big thank you to everyone who has booked for next year from Plymouth.

  • 24/08/2017 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

24 Aug 2017 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

We fished our second Pure Fishing summer competition day today with the slight twist of a Facebook inter group challenge with the Hardcore Hounds up against the Jolly Boys. All anglers with their sights on the first place prize of a Penn Rampage uptider, combined with a Penn Fathom 15 multiplier courtesy of My Ways sponsors Pure Fishing UK Ltd.

Forecast was not the best, a stiff SW F5 blew most of the day restricting our movement. This never dampened the spirits aboard My Way, with plenty of fish being caught from around the bay during various drifts and anchor fishing.

With just short of 300 fish being caught for the 6hrs fishing, the lads worked hard given the conditions. On the drift wrasse and the odd pollack accounted for 80 fish, with ballans, cuckoos, corkwing and a good amount of goldsinneys.

At anchor dogs and whiting led the way with over 100 combined total. 17 huss and a solitary tope for Brooksy added to the mix along with a few other species.

It was a tight match at the top, with three anglers vying for first place, eventual winner was from the Hardcore Hounds, Jonathon Hudd amassing a very respectable 190points pushing Mark Dolben and Pete Minns into 02nd and 03rd places respectively.

A good hard fought day afloat, plenty of fish a few good laughs too!

Overall winners of the inter group challenge were the Jolly Boys, stealing a win from the Hardcore Hounds by 45points.

  • 08/2017 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    Aug 2017 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

Well August has certainly been an up and down month with both the weather and fishing.
But as the month draws to an end the months notable tally's are as follows:
    Blue sharks to 113lb,
    Conger to 83lb,
    John Dory to 4lb 4oz,
    Plaice to 3lb,
    Tope to 35lb,
    Pollock to 14lb,
    Cod to 26lb,
    Ling to 28lb 8oz,
    Black bream to 5lb.
A lot more different species has been landed which include: Turbot, brill, bull Huss, whiting, red gurnard, tub gurnard, grey gurnard, mackerel, launce, blonde ray, small eyed ray, spotted ray, garfish, pouting, dogfish, coalfish.

So although August has been tough it has also produced some truly stunning specimen fish. September is the Torbay festival which is always good fun and I'm looking forward to it already.

Pictured this month is Cyril Williams with his first attempt at shark fishing and landing this fine fish of 113lb, he also landed a cracking eel of 66lb along with other firsts for him which included tope, well done Cyril.

Big thanks again to Sidewinder lures and Top Rigs for there great products which help land these great catches.

  • 25/08/2017 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

25 Aug 2017 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

Great fishing off Ramsgate for now with plenty of quality Smoothounds, Bass and Skate. The Mackerel have become a bit hit or miss with dirty water making life difficult. The Hounds have been mostly coming to live prawn which we are able to source here at Ramsgate. Whiting are starting to show now letting us know that winter is just around the corner, still hoping that a few Cod will show this year with October being the month when things happen. This is the time of year the large Bass can be expected although the 6lbers we have been catching make a fine meal. Still spaces available for whole boat or individual booking aboard Duke IV so give me a call and let's go fishing.

  • 08/2017 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

    Aug 2017 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Some lovely, good quality fish showing up for some of the lads on the last few trips on the Shy-Torque III

The ground has been fishing fairly well with some good sized ling appearing with weights to just over 14 lbs. These bigger fish coming from the ground just 3 miles from shore. Plenty of fishing time when we work so close to home!!

A few of days ago we had to work very close to shore on a corporate day trip with a group of lads from Smiths Contractors from Huddersfield and Leeds. The wind was too fresh to venture offshore and we found ourselves fishing some 500 yards from the shore at one point !! The lads and lass pulled a few nice codling up on the baited Hokkais and a load of mackerel and were very happy with their day.

On the days we have managed to venture further afield we have been seeing catches of 70 plus fish on board plus loads of mackerel too.

Late Summer competition starts 2nd September. Some places left.
