    Report on-board Wave Dancer

We took a long trip today to get to our fishing spot today, we steamed for about 1 3/4 hours to get there and we weren't disappointed. First mackerel was on board thanks to Ross within the time it took to drop his feathers over the side. The first one was then followed by at least 3-4 hundred more. One of the anglers just fished for mackerel, when the skipper Karl had had enough of gutting his fish for him he had 27lb of mackerel and there was still 1/4 of his bucket to go. We had novice anglers on with us today who had a great time pulling mackerel, tub and red gurnard, doggies, whiting and flatties all day.

  • 20/08/2017 Fishing Report by Mike Willmott on Sea-Juicer (Portsmouth, Hampshire)

20 Aug 2017 by Mike Willmott

    Report on-board Sea-Juicer

Went out on Sunday on Rob Hickin's Sea Juice. The plan was to do a days basing so on the way out we stopped to pick up some mackerel for live bait. Rob suggested that we put the anchor in until the tide was running well enough to drift for the bass. The 9 of us enjoyed a couple of hrs of general fishing and continuing to pick up live bai. Then it was time to go after what we were all after so up anchor and travel a further 4 miles out until we reached Robs selected spot. Over the next couple of hours we all caught our single bass to keep and returning a number of smaller hungry bass to fight on a different day. The bass were averaging around 4 to 5 lbs with the biggest weighing in at 8lb. We finished off we an hour of general ground fishing then set off for home all very satisfied with our days fishing. I can certainly highly recommend Rob he is a great skipper with a great sense of humour. Try his site for individual days or to hire his boat.

  • 22/08/2017 Fishing Report by Clive Hodges on Ocean Warrior 3 (Brighton, East Sussex)

22 Aug 2017 by Clive Hodges

    Report on-board Ocean Warrior 3

A fantastic day drift fishing with Dave Elliott on Ocean Warrior. Drifting the banks off of Brighton we have over 50 turbot and brill along with gurnards, ray, bream and mackerel. Most of the turbot were between 3lb and 6lb and the biggest brill was 4lb. We also had a 16lb undulate ray and some big mackerel to 3lb 8oz.

Dave and his crew man worked hard to find us the mackerel for bait and then the flats. A welcome cup of tea helped refresh us on the slack when the bites slowed down a little.

Can't wait to get out there again

  • 08/2017 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

    Aug 2017 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

I'll start this monthly report over the other side of the Channel in Alderney as that’s where both Silver Spray's have just returned from yesterday. A good few days mixed fishing to report, slightly hampered by the weather on the last day. We started the trip of with some nice tope on the anchor half way across, mackerel have really been in abundance all over the area we cover so it makes a spur of the moment anchoring session a lot easier when you don't have to worry about the bait. We even managed to find a few pollock on the wrecks which has been a tough ask of late. Around the Island itself we had both turbot and brill on the banks but catch rates aren't what anglers have become accustomed to over the last few years so its best kept to half a day to keep bordem levels down and interest up. We then moved over to target bream which went very well with good numbers of fish in varying sizes and plenty of double hook ups which always gets the rod tips bouncing. Quite often on these multi day trips there is one fish that stands out above the rest, on this trip there were a few. Day one saw Les Traynor land a porbeagle shark of around 20lb on a sideinder lure, the fish took the lure just under the surface and was released after a quick photo. One of our targets at this time of year are couches sea bream, a tropical looking snapper-like fish which are bright pink and blue. They are fairly rare usually so it was a surprise to see 3 caught across the last 2 days of the trip. Tony Lees managed to catch 2 of them up to 2lb using a flowing trace and a 2/0 circle hook baited with squid head. Elsewhere on our side of the water the bass fishing has really heated up, the fish taking a mixture of lures fished up through the water and live scad fished tightly to the bottom. And last but not least the plaice fishing is coming along nicely with most sessions seeing constant activity if you can get a steady drift speed going. We even managed a 5lb cod on the plaice gear, not sure whether it is a late winter cod or an early one? Won't be long and we will be thinking about anchoring up with the big squid baits, check your diaries and getting booking those spaces.
