    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Happy to report we got out to sea yesterday with the wind blowing at 25 mph W-SW but we did have both wind and tided together so it was no problem.

We started quite well with a Thornback Ray of about 7lbs from the front of the boat ans then it was quite steady after that, not manic, but a fish coming to the boat at regular intervals, which is a lot better than it has been of late, what with one storm after another, and the sheer lack of fish, it has been a bit of a struggle.

But now spring is in the air, and there is a real movement of fish coming in once again, I think the lean times are over... unless we get a severe amount of late snow, then that will hold back the influx of fish, but hopefully that wont happen and we can get back to what we do best....THAT'S FISHING, AND OF COURSE NOW CLAY SHOOTING..!!!

    Report on-board Skylark

Finally got a couple of trips fishing this week with the anglers getting some nice bags of fish.

Fishing is steady away with plenty of codlings and a few whiting about.

Thursday the weather was cold but settled we only had 4 anglers aboard as 1 had cancelled and the other 3 did not turn up.
but the lads had a good a amount of plump Codlings with over 30 in a 6 hour trip heaviest fish was around 5 lb.

Friday we had another 6 hour trip fishing again was pretty much the same but with a few more larger fish around the 3 to 4lb area the weather started out brilliant like a summers day but around lunchtime the winds became stronger and the sea conditions deteriorated the anglers carried on fishing for a few hours in the conditions but decided to call the trip short by an hour as the fishing became difficult.

Saturday we had a 8 hour trip and we travelled further afield which seamed to produce a better stamp of fish but not as many as the previous days so we travelled to the same ground we fished Thursday and Friday and again they were really productive yet again.
    Heaviest Fish today was 7lb.

The Anglers have used a good mix of baits over the 3 days but overall Squid and Crab Cart seamed to be the best all round bait tipped with other baits like razor and lugworm.

    Report on-board Wild Frontier 2

One of our valued anglers, Allan Yates from Seabooms.com has provided the best report of the most recent day out aboard and we have copied snipits for you to enjoy here: You can read the full report on Allan's website:
' Great start to the day weather wise glorious sunrise, low winds and temperatures around 6c. Weather forecast was against us with wind and rains due around mid day and as we steamed out to the wreck sea state was already lumpy but with wind direction and tides fishing was do-able. Arriving at the first wreck around 1000hrs with most of us including me were into fish and some klonkers coming aboard with the skipper Clem Carter and his crewman Rik Gold they were well busy charging round the boat landing fish. That scenario continued throughout the morning with many double figure fish and one at 19.5lbs we weighed it were taken. Around mid day winds were strengthening and the sea was heaping up but we were still lnding quality fish. My brief for the day was to sea trial two new lures my Turbo Fish and the Whackytails medium and large size and they took good fish so well happy with their perfomances and I also had good sport with my ultra light spinning rod and baitcaster reel loaded with 20lb braid that really was exciting fishing. Around 1300hrs the skipper and crew agreed to call time for two reasons main one we all had enough fish to take home so why rape the wreck stocks and most important winds were getting heavy and rain and sleet had set in so it was getting uncomfortable and we were mid channel 35miles out. Heading back to port the skipper and crewman filleted all the fish for us and we bagged them up ready for the freezers. So marks out of 10 for a good fish producing trip has to be 15 ! apart from weather you couldn't have asked for a better trip. '
THANK YOU ALLAN! ...and see you soon.

    RECORD BREAKER
The star of the trip was 50 year old Kevin Reay who landed a 24Ib 8oz Spurdog and with the current British Record apparently standing at 24Ib 5oz this was a superb specimen. Kevin did not want to kill such a superb fish so it was Weighed photographed and returned alive. This big Spur also beat the Flamer IV record which stood at 20Ib.
Kevin was using 20Ib class tackle with a pennel rig of Sakuma Manta hooks baited with Squid and Mackerel cocktail. Kevin is pictured with his record breaking Spurdog.
