  • 25/02/2016 Fishing Report by Ian Dale on Kelley's Hero Charters (Gosport, Hampshire)

25 Feb 2016 by Ian Dale

    Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters

At 0500 in the morning, the last thing you want is your alarm clock going off, that is of course unless you are going out to try and find some of those wrecks and ruins to gain you and your crew some nice pollock. Of course getting out of bed isn’t easy when it is -2 outside, not only have you got to dress up in all the gear and then de-ice the car, you then have to go and do it all over again to the boat.
We steamed for around about 2 hours before reaching our first wreck, and we couldn’t moan and grumble as the weather was just perfect. Flat calm, sunny, and not too much of a breeze, we certainly were lucky. There were only 2 anglers aboard Kelley’s Hero, who were both as eager as ever. All their gear etc was ready before leaving the marina, now that is dedication.
The first wreck never produced any pollock, we were hoping that this trip wasn’t going to end the same way that the last one did. So off we went to find another wreck, and hopefully some fish. The next wreck proved quite successful, we had a few takes and misses, and then as the tide died down, the fish started to feed. “Fish on” Kev shouts, “fish on” shouts Mark. Out comes the net, and welcome aboard 2 lovely pollock. We had a nice couple of hours and a nice few fish on that wreck, and then we moved on to the next wreck to fish over the slack water period, however this only produced a few pollock as expected.
As the tide got away we welcomed a new addition to the fleet, we were fishing with 2 other boats on the wreck when this fourth one thought it would be a good idea to try and beat us to the start of the drift, but we weren’t having any of it, so in true fisherman fashion, we gave him a “TOOT” on the horn. To which he replied with a mighty “BLAST”, so of course, we let him go ahead of us, as you do.
Now once we had our tea and biscuits, and the tide had turned, we headed straight back to the wreck from before and started drifting once again. It started slow, but once the tide got to a steady pace, the pollock started feeding again. They were a bit picky at first and were only playing with our lures, but as before, they soon started feeding. Even though there weren’t any real monsters this trip, we had a good stamp of fish running between 6lb-13lb. And as they say time flies when you are having fun. and before we knew it, it was 1645, time to head home.
    Tight Lines
    Ian

  • 02/2016 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    Feb 2016 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

A break in the weather allowed Spot On to leave Brixham at 7am for a days wrecking in search of Pollock.
It has to be said the day was absolutely awesome from the off, with a cold frosty morning the sun cam out and the little wind disappeared and it was like a summers day and the fishing wasn't bad either.

Well the truth has to be told it was fantastic from the off, with prime conditioned hard running Pollock and this continued all day and with a couple guys targeting ling over slack water we had a couple with just over 19lb being the biggest Ling and low double figure Pollock making up the remainder of the days catch.

A bumper haul and one of the best had on board Spot On so lets hope it continues.

2pm came and I made the decision that the guys had enough fish and with 3 guys filleting for 3 hours steam home we reached Brixham harbour at 17:35 for a well deserved cold refreshment.

A big thank you to the lads for making an exceptionally fun day and great relaxed atmosphere all day which is what its all about.

We will be targeting the BIG Ling very soon so watch this space for reports and catches.

Thanks to my sponsors SIDEWINDER lures for the continued support into 2016 who without there great products would not allow us to catch the fish that Spot On catches.

I would like to welcome the new charter boat 'OBSESSION' to Brixham and wish Kev good luck in his new port.

Spot On still has some good tides and dates available so please call, txt or email if you want a trip on Brixham's premier charter boat and still the only catamaran operating from Brixham.

  • 02/2016 Fishing Report by Dave Elliott on Ocean Warrior 3 (Brighton, East Sussex)

    Report on-board Ocean Warrior 3

We have managed to get out fishing this week, following some rubbish weather this year so far!

Just a big thank you to my anglers for their understanding of the new 'Bass Law', this week. They have been fully co-operative to returning all of the Bass to sea alive. We did catch quite a lot of Bass this week so this has meant a lot to me for their co-operation.

There has also been some good sized Pollock caught this week as well on the offshore wrecks of which at least they had something to take home! They were all good sized double figured in weight.

You can also check out 'Newhaven Ocean Warrior 3 Fishing' on Facebook for latest pictures and videos of the Bass going back.

Let's hope for some good spring weather to come and some good fishing for all!!

    Regards
    Dave

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Keeping you all up to date having lost two weekends on the trot due to extremely high winds was glad to get out midweek nice light north west wind making conditions near perfect, only bug bear was reasonably strong tide but you cant have it all. We headed out north to a bank on the 5 mile mark on arriving was clear the tide was far too strong to fish in the depth we were in, couple of whiting and a flatty came in but decided to move anyway as tide wasnt going to slow down for a few more hours yet. Headed south virtually off lowestoft seafront didnt take long as tide was with us resulting in pesky whiting from the start of all sizes! Ended up when the tide turned with best fish of the day pictured here with Len Andrews a 6lb cod, also few others round the 3 to 4 lb mark and undersize returned. Had a visit from IFCA Fisheries Patrol Vessel nice to see the boys as they do a great job also explained our new bass quotas. In all was a great day sun shining few cod at last hoping this is the start of the spring codling run as we have had a hard time so far this winter! Thanks to all the lads especially those who traveled couple of hours its much appreciated just leaves us looking forward to next few weeks to see what happens, Few places left for this weekend at the moment. Until then tight lines everyone. Jon (High Flyer)
