    Report on-board Size Matters

Over the last week there have been some nice cod getting caught in the Mersey.
The biggest I have heard of is 12lb with a few around 9lb to 10lb. On Brigand we have been catching up to 12 cod per day to 7lb 10oz (most are about 5lb to 6lb), thornback ray to 5lb, whiting to 1lb 8oz and dabs.
On two of the days we fished spring tides, one day we fished a mark about 3 miles from new brighton. We caught hundreds of whiting and dabs along with the odd codling to 3lb, flounder to 1lb 8oz and small thornback rays. On the second day we fished the Mersey mostly targeting the back eddies and marks where we could get out the main tide flow. We caught our biggest cod of the season so far 8lb 12oz, a long with a few more around the 4lb mark. There was still plenty of whiting and dabs to be caught over low water, with one angler catching six dabs on a six hook trace I have never seen that done before.
During February we will be doing a few more charters on spring tides and if the weather is kind we will venture off shore if anglers are willing to give it ago.
Here is a list of available dates during February.

    Monday 1st whole boat available,
    Tuesday 2nd whole boat available,
    Wednesday 3rd 6 places available,
    Thursday 4th 4 places available,
    Friday 5th 1 place available,
    Sunday 7th 5 places available,
    Sunday 14th 7 places available,
    Monday 15th whole boat available,
    Tuesday 16th 8 places available,
    Wednesday 17th whole boat available,
    Thursday 18th 3 places available,

If you would like information or book any of these dates give me a call on 07999628511.

    Cheers

    Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters

Well that was a shock to the system, no not the freezing cold weather, the fact that Kelley’s Hero made it to sea two days in a row. And what a lovely two days of weather we had despite having to deice the boat in the mornings, with this view and the fish it was worth

Tuesday saw us leaving the marina with The Southsea Marina Disabled Angling Club, ready for there day cod fishing. They had been trying to get out for over a month but due to the weather it kept getting cancelled. It started off a bit chilly, with a bit of a swell. But we soon forgot about all that once the first cod came aboard. It was around 7lb. Throughout the day we had plenty of nice sized whiting, pout and 2 more cod upto 9lb. All in all we all had a great day and a good laugh. We can’t wait to get the club back aboard Kelley’s Hero in the future.

On Wednesday, the weather had calmed down to not much wind and a little bit of a chill. Kelley’s Hero headed out for the first wrecking trip of the season. We had 6 good anglers on board all eager to see what the day had in store for us. There wasn’t tonnes of pollack, but just enough to keep us busy and warm. The biggest fish of the day was caught by Matt, and weighed 12lb. John got a nice surprise when he reeled in a nice Tub gurnard, there many caught throughout the day, but his was the biggest. Now, what is the last thing you expect to see in January in the freezing cold?! Well we caught a Mackerel, just one though, yes we were all shocked too. My overall thought on our first wrecking trip of the season, is that if we leave it a few weeks yet the fishing will come on a bit more, but it was nice see a few pollack starting to show already.

If you would like to book a day aboard Kelley’s Hero, whether it is inshore or offshore please feel free to contact me.

    Report on-board Skylark

We finally got a break in the weather and had a good trip out with most anglers getting 8 or so fish each. Unfortunately nothing massive with all the fish been from a couple of pound to just under 5.

Had plenty of porpoise and seals around us most of the day and plenty of banter from the anglers.
