Report on-board FINS UP
With the weather looking favourable for a couple of days in a row for a change, a wrecking trip was organised with only short notice. High expectations of light winds and fair weather and some new season fat top Pollock and maybe a ling or two.
View Boats Page
As is usual this time of year constantly checking the forecast every couple of hours using the good old met office, wind guru, xc weather and a combination of the bbc, the evening beforehand the weather prediction was doable and decreasing later, but not for fair weather fishermen or picnicking.
As we approached the first wreck with intentions of this been the the first of many fishing destinations planned for the day, the fish started to feed and good fish landed. With some amazing anglers onboard catching great sized fish it was disheartening having to make the decision to call the trip short and head for home as the weather quickly deteriorated. A few brave men fishing hardcore style, fins-up.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD FINS UP

Report on-board Spot On!
Hi all,
View Boats Page
Sorry for the lapse in reports recently but as you can guess the weather has not been allowing us much at the moment but when we have managed to dodge the wind we have had some bumper days on the winter Pollock.
Wrecking from Brixham on board Spot On has been simply superb, with nice prime hard fighting Pollock, a few Ling and some pouting hitting the net.
The ling are starting to show up so we will be targeting them very soon and with the Pollock in abundance we will continue to target these as well.
Big Blonde rays on the deep water edges of the skerries banks will also be worth a go with squid and fish cocktail baits using uptider's.
Spot On is looking to be very busy this year and I have already been asked to open 2017 diary which I will do very soon as I now have the tides.
Pictured is Martin from Bridgwater with his fine winter Pollock of 17lb's

Fishing in February has been different to last year.I think this is because of the vast amounts of freshwater that we have had early on in the season,we have had days with 12 cod caught and days with 1 or 2 cod,but
we always ask the lads what they want to do if they want to scratch around or sit it out for Cod,A recent trip we had we welcomed Ian Brown back with us he had been out with us once before and managed 7 cod himself that day, We left the Marina and thought we would try an old mark as there was only a couple of boats out and it would not be too crowded,so we set off down the river and baited the lads up it was not long before Ian had a nice bite and produced a 10lbs Cod whilst i was dealing with his fish. I gave him another rig which i had prebaited whilst i was weighing the 10bs cod he said he had another bite,It turned out to be a Cod of 13lbs 8 oz not bad for his second trip total fish count that day was 11 cod, another day produced Cod, Flounder .Whiting , Dabs and a Plaice all the fish caught are fresh fish just come into the river.

RECORD BREAKER
View Boats Page
The star of the trip was 50 year old Kevin Reay who landed a 24Ib 8oz Spurdog and with the current British Record apparently standing at 24Ib 5oz this was a superb specimen. Kevin did not want to kill such a superb fish so it was Weighed photographed and returned alive. This big Spur also beat the Flamer IV record which stood at 20Ib.
Kevin was using 20Ib class tackle with a pennel rig of Sakuma Manta hooks baited with Squid and Mackerel cocktail. Kevin is pictured with his record breaking Spurdog.

on Kelley's Hero Charters (Gosport, Hampshire)

Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters
Tuesday the 16th February saw Kelley’s Hero Leaving Southsea Marina for a 5th time this year, and we aren’t even at the end of February yet (that is more than the last few months before put together). This time we were on our way out to try and find the last of those big winter mud piggies (COD). We had 6 keen anglers on board all willing that big lunker on to the end of there rod. The weather couldn’t have been any nicer to us apart from the frost and ice first thing. That soon cleared and we were met with sunshine, flat calm seas and no wind….Luxury!!

Once we got to our first fishing spot and the anchor was set, the guys soon had there hands in that frozen bucket of squid, getting ready to put their bait in the water. Things were looking up within the first 10 minutes as we landed our first whiting of the trip. Unfortunately this didn’t last long and things soon got slower and slower, until of course we reached slack water. Now we all know that cod like slack water as they don’t have to work hard for their dinner, Kevin’s Rod was the first rod to go, and he pulled in a nice codling of 5lb. Sadly for Kevin and everybody else on board, that was the first and last cod of the trip.
We reached the afternoon and no more cod showed up, so we picked up the anchor and headed South East to try a deeper spot. The weather remained the same, the kettle was on, and the biscuits were being handed round. You would think this was the perfect time to get a nice Cod, but no, Mark had to go and catch a Conger Eel, this weighed around about 25lb. Our lovely friend the dogfish showed his face on more than one occasion throughout the day, and began to be a regular visitor to John from the Disabled angling club. After a very long and slow day, we began to see a few more whiting being landed, however it was then time to head back in and re think our tactics for another day.
Even though we didnt have many fish, it was a nice day to be out, and once the weather has settled again, we will be straight back out looking for some more.

February '16 monthly report:
View Boats Page
Although we have mostly been kept in port with the weather over the last few weeks I've managed a couple of trips out to see what is biting. The banks are fishing well offshore with our first 20lb spur of the year hitting the deck (catch and release style) and a steady stream of congers rays and huss too. As well as the usual blonde rays we have been getting a lot of undulates and thornbacks , a welcome addition to what is sometimes a quiet time of year. We have pretty much seen the last of the cod now inshore for this winter season, a decent number landed but perhaps not to the usual size we are used to at this time of year. Looking forward to getting back out on the wrecks in search of the first of the years pollack in the coming weeks, providing we get some better weather.
