  • 04/2013 Fishing Report by Lyle Stantiford on Supanova II (Weymouth, Dorset)

    Apr 2013 by Lyle Stantiford

    Report on-board Supanova II

    Hi All,

Well what weather we have experienced over the last month!

I think March last year lulled us into a false sense of security, relentless easterly wind has put pay to many trips for the whole Weymouth fleet throughout March. It certainly is the worst start to the year I can remember.

The water temperature is about 3-4 degrees colder than normal, combine this with coloured water it has made the inshore fishing a little challenging. The fish are there we just need conditions to improve in our favour Nd I'm sure the plaice and turbot will be hungry!

The wrecking continued to offer all anglers fantastic sport when we could get out there.

The coming month hopefully will offer all you anglers some better weather and in turn offer much improved inshore sport with plaice and turbot top of the list and towards the end of the month maybe an early bream or two.

Wrecking should see continued pollack action, improving ling numbers and the arrival of the first Cod.

Pictured is Charlie Butcher with his PB Plaice landed on one of the nice days last month.

Thanks to all who continue to support Weymouth and Supanova II.

Tight lines to all for the coming month,

    Lyle

  • 04/2013 Fishing Report by Ray Burn on Grey Viking (Brighton, East Sussex)

    Apr 2013 by Ray Burn

    Report on-board Grey Viking

Well the weather has been frustrating with this unprecedented cold spell and more windy days than usual for this time of year. The good news is that we've been on the Pollack since before Christmas and when we are able to get out the fishing has generally been better than the last few years with more Pollack about. They are bigger too with double figure fish commonplace and 8lb is the new small! All good stuff!! We've had at least one personal best on each trip and you can't ask for much more than that.

Looking ahead to April and beyond I think the cold water temperatures will extend the season for big Pollack by at least a month - certainly into May (the May Rot will be late) Cod will be showing on the wrecks soon too.

Inshore the Plaice fishing was good in February and will be back on top form as soon as this cold spell ends. We normally start Bream fishing mid April but again I suspect they will be late and May/June will be the time to target them this year.

As soon as the Mackerel show we will be doing plenty of mid-channel Turbot trips. These will be longer 10 to 11 hour days and limited to 7 anglers with their own tackle (braid essential). We will mix these day's up with some wreck fishing too.

Give me a call and we'll get you booked up on a trip soon.

  • 03/2013 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Mar 2013 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

The weather this weekend made for a challenging time for the lads aboard My Way. Erratic fishing saw, dogs, dabs, whiting and codling come aboard My Way in single double and triple shots, only for the following hour to slow down, forcing another move to seek out fish.

Huss and small ray helped bulk up the species count along with a few additional mini specie and a solitary plaice; thankfully some pretty unprintable banter and great food help ease the hardship of the bitterly cold east wind that forced us all to cover up behind big coats and hats all day long.

On reflection, a great weekend with a good bunch of anglers …. Roll on the summer!

30 Mar 2013 by Mick West

    Report on-board Emma Louise

    Sat 30th March.
The weather was not great so I decided to forget the wrecks as my party was all new to boat fishing and I wanted them to have a good time.so I opted for a spot of plaice, fishing which was a good call as they all managed to catch a few even though two of the ladies didn't feel great for part of the day but to give them there due they stuck at it.

  • 30/03/2013 Fishing Report by Tim Harrison on 3 Fishes (New Quay, Ceredigion)

30 Mar 2013 by Tim Harrison

    Report on-board 3 Fishes

The bass season starts in mid April here on the West Wales coast and we'll be on 'em from then onwards. I'm expecting a slow start as the water warms through May with the fishing rapidly improving through June to a peak by mid August. The Makkies will show on 1st May and from then onwards we will be able to chase large packs of Tope that always follow the fish. Breaming will be May onwards and this year I'm expecting to boat a massive huss! www.facebook.com/bassfishingtrips will keep you updated on what we are on. Best regards, Tim Harrison Pro Bass Guide and Sea Angler Magazine feature writer.
