MARCH 2013 - Wrecking trips have produced some good Pollack fishing of late.On my most recent wreck trip some Ling were also caught on Lures.Colin Leadbeater from Bristol landing the biggest Ling weighing 20Ib.Colin was using a Shakespeare 20Ib class Ugly Stick rod with a flying collar rig and a silver sidewinder lure.Colin is pictured with his 20Ib Ling. Ling Fishing should now improve as we go into March and although we catch them on lures the favourite way of fishing for them is on a slow drift or at anchor with squid and mackerel baits.

Hi all,

Well February was definitely at the mercy of the weather. Continuous Northeast winds put pay to allot of trips but when ever there was a small break and we managed to get out the fishing was very good indeed. Most trips were Mid Channel after the Pollack. Catches were very good every day with all on board going home with a nice bag of fillets each day. I would say the average size of fish is a little down on last year but all the fish are fit and healthy and certainly put a good ben in your rod!
The lure of the moment seems to be the bubble gum pink Red Gill evolutions. These latest editions to the Red Gill Family really are the lure of the moment regardless of colour. They seem to last well and on their day out fish live sandeels.
I also have some of the New Snowbee Super Skad lures on board and these were used this weekend for the first time and matched the red gills fish for fish so be worth sticking some in your box for next time.
I now have the full range of Snowbee deep blue rods on board so next time your out and you fancy try with one just let me know.
Towards the end of February we did try and experimental look at the Shambles and to be fair conditions were against us with coloured water and not allot of tide. We still managed four which was very encouraging indeed.
Focus over the next few weeks will still be the Pollack mid Channel and more Turbot and Plaice fishing.
If you fancy a day and cant see a date that suits on my schedule then give me a bell/text 07976876667.
Tight lines and thanks to all who continue to support Weymouth.

headed out to the usual mark off corton in grahams little boat as lead us is out of action at the moment due to a broken rudder (soon to be repaired) not really expecting to much as the last trip up there had been barren although it was a couple of weeks ago. with the rods out we settled down and waited and could tell the weed was collecting on the line by the way the rods were bending and just as i was about to pull one of my rods in to remove the weed bang down it went with a good solid pull and i struck into the first cod of the day and they then came steadily through the day with a few whiting as the tide eased ending the day pleasantly suprised with 14 cod to 4.5lb and a dozen or so whiting a very enjoyable day

Had a look today on the s/holm area plenty of Whiting but no Dabs or Cod loads of Herring in the water ran off the pinnys had a go for an early Rooker with fresh Herring as bait but its still a bit early for them we are hearing that the commercial lining boats are working some 30 miles off with poor results so it dose not give us much of a chance inside the 12 mile but never mind we have seen this all before i still think we will get a spring run the back end of March, hope you enjoy the fish Tony/Harrison will keep you posted,Brian.

Report on-board Flamer IV
MARCH 2013 - An offshore wrecking trip on a cold March day produced some good Pollack fishing.Pick of the bunch was Flamer IV regular Russell Salmon who caught several Pollack and also beat his Personal Best with a 14 Pounder (pictured).During the early part of trip a variety of all the usual lures were used but the best lure on the day proved to be bubble gum pink red gills which accounted for the majority of the Pollack. Certainly this is the time of the year to catch Big Pollack.

SO DON'T MISS OUT.
On the same trip Trevor Pegg was not catching but with some advice from me and fellow angler Peter Gillett he managed to put a few fish together. So as the saying goes "every little helps". Certainly at times the Pollack will be be caught on certain colour and type lures but in a change of tide or a day later another type/colour lure will produce the best catches. So always keep a good selection of lures with you.
I look forward to seeing you all soon an Flamer IV. Thanks for your Support. -

Report on-board Spot On!
Easterly winds have been around for far to long now although Spot On had Milnrow sea anglers on for a weekends wrecking this weekend 2nd & 3rd March.

Saturday saw us moving around having a few fish here and there and then on the last wreck we hit in to feeding time with some great Pollock and whiting caught and some even better ones lost. everyone was getting in on the action with great fish from 6lb up to 13lb 8oz.
Sunday saw us heading out again into an even fresher easterly wind, once again we got to the first wreck, and Spot On was Spot On again with short quick drifts bringing more Pollock with again great action all around the boat, biggest today was 13lb.
As the wind picked up we searched around for a wreck we could get a nice drift on but the wind pushing a force 6 was too much and the line angle was lost so we headed home to get in port at 1630.
All in a all for the conditions a good couple days on the fine sport that these Pollock offer and thanks to all the guys of Milnrow sea anglers for braving the elements and kept the reels winding all day.
Hope to see you all again soon

Our trip was originally booked for Sunday 24th Feb, however Skipper Terry lee advised us to delay to this Saturday, 2nd March due to the weather. Luckily he had a free slot on this date. This proved a wise decision, and Saturday saw us out on a wreck 20+ miles off Brighton.
The electronics showed the wreck to be well packed with Pollack, but despite picking up 3 fish on the first drift, bites remained patchy throughout the morning. Nevertheless, we were catching fish and a good time was had by all.
After lunch-time we moved in a little to try another wreck which again showed a good head of fish. However once again bites were patchy, and the numbers boated did not do justice to the tremendous efforts put in by Terry & his crewman Jay.
I must state here that Terry & his lovely boat, Sea Breeze III are very impressive operation. I have fished on a lot of different boats over the years, right back to the 1970's, and if I had to pick one out, I would say Sea Breeze gets my vote. It's immaculate, extremely well equipped, and very professionally operated. Terry is a very easy guy to get on with and a very fair & honest businessman. His crewman Jay is also a true professional & works very hard all day. As well as sorting out the inevitable tangles, Jay manages any hire tackle, lands all the fish very expertly and will even fillet & wash your catch to table readiness! A great boat, we shall certainly go again. Well done Terry & Jay and very many thanks. -

Report on-board Emma Louise
We left the lock at 9.30 this morning through no fault of my own, I hasten to add. I decided to visit a few wrecks, as our target today was cod! Not a great start to the day, as our first wreck only produced 1 Pollock of about 7lb and so after a few drifts I decided to move to our second wreck which also only produced Pollock and 1 Cod. So off again a bit further, to our next wreck where the anglers instantly had cod in the boat! Not huge fish, but cod nevertheless. We totalled in excess of 20, at which point we lost the tide and this great bunch of guys wanted to get home to the pub, as it was one of their birthdays. So we found ourselves having a very short day, as we were back in the lock by 4pm, but all in all a great day with a great crowd!
